Rating: Summary: It could have gotten 5 Review: I thought that overall this was a good book, and I can't wait to read the 2nd one. It could have been better though. The author didn't fully develope the main characters and left a lot about their personality to the imagination. I also didn't like the fact that alternation between characters was consistent, so you never knew who the next girl would be that the story was about. Overall it was a good book and I couldn't put it down! I got it for Christmas and finished it that day even with all the visitors we had. IT WAS THAT GOOD!
Rating: Summary: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" Book Review Review: "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" was and incredible book. I am fourteen years old, and I related my life and my friends' lives to it so much. It was an incredible tale of four girls with big hearts growing up together. The day I bought it I finished it. I recomend this to any teenage girl that enjoys reading a good book!
Rating: Summary: utterly amazing Review: I Recomend this book to anyone, old or young (over 10) because I think everyone could relate to one of the 4 stories told. The author does an amazing job of combining 4 main characters and thier adventures by tool of an object (the pants) She includes letters between the 4 friends, and switches between different charaters telling the story, but it was masterfully done and I was never confused about who was telling the story or what setting we were in. She sets up the book great in the first chapter where you learn of the 4 friends backgrounds, the adventures they will soon be embarking upon, and the significance of the pants. It is a wonderful book and I hope you all get a chance to read it. Again its amazingly well written.
Rating: Summary: A fun book about friendship Review: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares is primarily aimed at junior high and teen girls, but is a book that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The main characters are four girls who are about 15 years old. Therefore, this book would probably be most enjoyed by girls who are around this age or even a bit younger. This book contains numerous literary elements that help to enhance it. One unique aspect about this book is that it contains four different plot lines about four friends who are spending their summers in different places all over the world. Although this seems like it would be very confusing, this plot structure actually makes the book much more interesting. Another element within this book is that the author leaves the reader hanging at suspenseful points within one character's story and quickly jumps into another character's story. Although this can be somewhat frustrating at times, it makes the reader want to read on to find out what will happen next. Between these stories, the author adds in letters that the girls write to each other throughout the summer. These letters help to connect the four stories and to add a little more flavor to the book. While reading this book, I found myself connecting to these characters on a personal level. I smiled and laughed as they flirted with guys. I felt sad when they got upset or depressed. I could feel the characters' emotions because I have experienced many of the same ones as I have grown up. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be a very uplifting and fun book that brought me back into my early-teen years. I would definitely recommend this book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, to anyone who is in search of a story about the true meaning of friendship.
Rating: Summary: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Review: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares would be an exciting read for most any junior high girl. This book about four best friends split apart for the summer and the magical pants that maintain their unique connection will evoke a range of emotions from readers. They will experience euphoria, vulnerability, self-doubt, rage, and many other emotions as they travel through this novel. Lena leaves for her grandparents' house in Greece and gains a new perspective on heritage and trust. Tibby stays in town and works a boring job at Walman's, a discount store. Bridget takes off for summer camp in Baja California and falls for a great guy. The only problem is that he's slightly older than she is. Carmen looks forward to the perfect summer with her dad but is surprised when things don't go as she expected. Brashares will have readers furiously turning the pages of this enticing and easy to read book. Brashares uses a unique writing style in this book. Each girl's story is told individually with letters to each other placed strategically throughout the book. The different stories can be difficult to keep track of until each character's identity is firmly established. Four main characters give a variety of personalities the chance to grab on to a character and relate well. However, readers don't get to know any one character especially in depth. This creates a bit of a shallow feeling. This shouldn't deter anyone from giving the book a chance, though. From the official rules governing the pants to the outrageous situations the girls find themselves in, Brashares generously sprinkles humor on the pages of this book. This book is sheer pleasure reading!
Rating: Summary: Friendship Never Ends Review: It all started with a pair of pants that one of the characters had bought at a thrift shop. They all realize that the pants fit all four girls even though they are all different sizes, shapes and nationalities. Carmen, Bridget, Lena and Tibby are all best friends since birth. Carmen is the one with the bad temper. She's looking forward to spending the summer with her father in South Carolina and playing tennis. Her father has a surprise for her that she soon dislikes. Lena is off to Greece to stay with her grandparents and meets a boy who her grandmother totally adores and wants her to date. However, Lena really gives boys a hard time because she feels that they go out with her because of her looks and not for her personality. Tibby, the rebel, is the only one spending the summer home in Washington D.C. She meets this girl named Bailey who suffers from leukemia, cancer of the blood. That soon changes the way Tibby looks at the world. Finally, Bridget is the athletic soccer player, who is taking the summer off in Baja, California. Soon enough she meets Eric, the Hispanic soccer coach who is 19 years old. She completely falls for him and spends a steamy night with him. From that day on, she's confused about what has happened and regrets it. Although the book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was a bit complex to understand it is highly recommended.
