Rating: Summary: This book touched my heart! Review: Our book club met last night to discuss this book and though not all of us would give it 5 stars it touched each of us and a number of us know this is one of those books we will read again. Even though I found there to be much sadness there was also much joy. For those who disliked the book, I can only guess that it might be to close to home for them or that they have never experienced any of the tragedies, failures or deep friendship these women shared and could not relate. I was moved by the way the authour wrote about ViVi's mental illness. Having read Wally Lamb's depressing "She's Come Undone", just prior to the Divine Secrets... it was a pleasure to ride the wonderful roller coaster of emotion to be found here in "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood". A must for every woman who is a daughter or has one! I look forward to reading " And Little Altars Everywhere".
Rating: Summary: What an AMAZING piece of literature! Review: I thought this was an extrodinary piece of work! I could not believe the way Wells showed the complex relationship between mother and daughter in such a simple manner. This is a read for all mother and daughters!
Rating: Summary: This book was amazingly theraputic for me! Review: I felt like I had such an amazing connection with the daughter in the book. It made me reconsider my relationship with my mother. It gave me a sense of resolution, forgiveness, and understanding.
Rating: Summary: Sure to be a favorite of lovers of kooky southern women Review: Oh, no, not another book about the oddities, frailties, strengths and pathologies of southern women done with great good humor and resolution! It must be the heat. Passages about the ya-yas were the most interesting, however, the author really didn't do her job. This was supposed to be about a mother AND daughter. The daughter was just the vehicle for telling the mother's story. No real understanding of how daughter came to be who she is happened (unless of course we write off all their quirks to the heat and the R.C. church!) Read something good, or take this to the beach
Rating: Summary: I did not want the book to end! Review: This is the kind of book you will love if you get it, if not, forget it. Even though I didn't directly relate myself and my mother/daughter relationship with the characters and situations, it was very moving and I walked away feeling peace and understanding for my mother. It is the only book I have ever read that actually had me laughing out loud. In my estimation, it is a MUST READ FOR ALL WOMEN!!
Rating: Summary: The complex relationships between mothers and daughters Review: I was a wee bit leary at first to delve into a book that dealt with the complex relationships between mothers and daughters, but upon reading it I now realize that there is no perfect answer to all of the mysteries that remain between a mother and her eldest daughter. I have often tried to deal with this relationship and have now come to a new understanding and respect for something I can not control. This was one of the most beautiful books I have ever read and know that I will re-read it for years to come and will definately recommend it to anyone (especially daughters) to read!
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ!!! I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Review: This is one of the best reads I have had in a long time. I have not been so touched and moved by a book since Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone. Being from the South, I can relate to a lot of Sidda's feelings towards her family and surroundings. Don't just read the negative reviews of this book and overlook it. Read it yourself and be drawn into the wonderful world of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
Rating: Summary: I hated to reach the end of this book! Review: The "Ya-Ya's" made me laugh as well as cry. Not a perfect group of women, but, a perfect friendship. This book is now making the rounds within my own circle of friends, and so far everyone has adored it. The only problem I had with this book was that I wanted more of it!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story - a must read for every woman. Review: The Ya-Ya's brought back memories and made me laugh and cry...sometimes at the same time. The characters in this book got me on their side instantly and I felt that I knew them and if I came across one of them along the street I would recognize them. Have told so many people about this book and hope they take me up on my recommendation. A wonderful find...plus Little Altars Everywhere. Can't wait for her next book.
