Summary: The Best Romance Novel Ever!
Review: How can anyone rate this book 2 stars? I just finished reading the book yesterday, and let me tell you, I was torn. I didn't want to finish it. I was hoping for another hundred years. Colton is the most passionate man, and Adrianna must be beautiful, aphrodite beautiful, for her to be courted so much. This book is great, and I hope to read more great romance novels by Mrs. Woodiwiss.

Summary: Glad I didn't buy it
Review: I was first introduced to the historical romance when my step-mom gave me a copy of "Shanna", which I proceded to read and re-read numerous times. I was happy to see a new book by Kathleen Woodwiss at the library, and quickly snatched it up. I could barely get through the first few chapters. I lost count of how many times we are told that Adriana's heart was broken at such a young age. It took several pages just to describe Colton's first few moments back home, and the whole book was way too...descriptive. The story was a good one, but it probably would have been much better if about 100 pages had been cut. Very disappointing.

Summary: I have to agree with the other reviewers.
Review: I am inbetween 2 & 3 stars, leaning towards 2. I couldn't believe what other reviews were saying about this book and wanted to see for myself. Unfortunately, I have to agree with others that had problems with this book. I actually had problems getting into it. It was wierd. The proses were way overblown and I had to reread paragraphs to make sense of them. There were soooo many repeated flowery words and nonsense- I would get lost in the middle of them. Referring back to the bath tub scene got old. When Adrianna was almost raped by Roger and instead of being concerned for her well-being & soothing her, all Colton could think of was his manly desire and how she had looked in his bath tub. And Arianna was having a hard time getting over a broken heart at the age of 7(?)- give me a break! I did a lot of looking over paragraphs to move on. There is a story there, but it just wasn't up to KW standards, even the ending wasn't. How sad... I won't be rereading this one and am glad I went to the library for it.

Summary: Woodiwiss Warning!!!
Review: I am seriously grieved by this; by having to write this...by feeling this way.Let's put it thusly- Kathleen Woodiwiss has been one of my favorite authors since the early 80's. (possibly earlier, could I remember what age was I when I found Shanna in a box of books in the garage.) Her latest? The Reluctant Suitor? Unreadable. I tell you, if it wasn't a library book, it would have hit the wall 20 pages in. Her prose has always been overblown, but that was part of the charm. Now it's so overblown you have to read it five times to make sense of what's going on, and while I am certainly an advocate of "iron-thewed thighs" surely twice in ten pages is a bit much. It's .... I am sad. Her books just keep getting worse and worse. I was really looking forward to this one....... The characters completely fail to engage you, much less be distinguishable from each other, or for that matter who is talking. The richness of her descriptions has become a mish-mash of babble; will someone please EDIT this woman's books?

Summary: Deeply Disappointed
Review: I have been reading Kathleen Woodiwiss for the past 25 years and I must say this is the most disappointing work I have seen from her. Both main characters are unlikable and the side story of the baby and 'dead' mistress/wife who pops up later takes away from the relationship. If you collect all of Kathleen's books I would wait until this one comes out in paperback. If you must read it now, please check it out from the library and save yourself some money.

Summary: Willing or reluctant suitor?
Review: Colton Wyndham leaves home for 16 years because his father binds him to a prearranged marriage with a gangly girl he had known since childhood. Rather than fulfill his father's request to marry young Adrianna, he goes off to war to fight against Neopoleon. Returning from the war, Colton finds his father is deceased and he still is bound by his father's wishes. Colton has to make a decision whether to be a willing or reluctant suitor to a much changed Adrianna who is now sought by many other gentlemen willing to enter into a marriage contract with her. Only Kathleen Woodiwiss can lend a satisfactory conclusion to the decision the reluctant suitor must make.

Summary: Huge Disappointment
Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss has always been one of my favorite authors. I can't tell you how many times I have reread Shanna and Ashes in the Winds. There is no story here until the last twenty or so pages. Three chapters to get out of the front hall?!? I finished the book but will not be rereading it. I think that Ms. Woodiwiss missed many opportunities to turn this into at least an interesting story. Save your money if you feel you must make up your own mind--go to your library.

Summary: Reluctant to Believe it is by Woodiwiss
Review: The Flame and the Flower is my all time favorite romance novel. I've purchased at least 6 copies over the years - due to loaning it out and not getting it back. I'm always eager to get her new works, but from the very first page of this one, I knew it just wasn't right. I felt that Woodiwiss was grasping for something to say. The story was good, but the endless flow of useless, flowery passages made it difficult to enjoy. The whole book was as if she didn't have enough words in the draft and someone else came in and added all the nonsense. Very disappointing.

Summary: I was SO disappointed!
Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss was the author who introduced me to the historical romance genre and I have loved her books...until The Reluctuant Suitor. As one person asked and I agree, has she lost all respect for her readers' intelligence? Her sentences ramble and become confusing and her use of pronouns has one constantly attempting just to whom she is referring. The story line is similar to her others and that in itself is enough to deem it boring but the writing makes it even more so...and her characters could be plucked from so many other historical romances that there was nothing about them that held my interest. It was all I could do to finish the book and after I had I was angry with myself that I had wasted my valuable time.
