Rating: Summary: i love this series! Review: this one is not as good as the first two, but it was still a wonderful read and a very good farewell to our beloved becky bloomwood.
Rating: Summary: Dissappointing Review: I loved both of the previous Shopaholic books, but this one left me feeling disappointed. The idea that she had two weddings on the same weekend was just dumb. This was not how I expected the book to end at all and although sometimes it's a good thing when a book takes an unexpected turn, this time it just made me think dumb, dumb, dumb. I also thought Luke came off as a driveling idiot instead of the dashing, strong character he was before.
Rating: Summary: Only Becky could plan 2 weddings for the same date! Review: Luke and Becky are in the US. She has the most wonderful job in fashion - she is a Barney's personal shopper. Luke meanwhile is hard a work on the New York office of his company. They go back home for Sue's wedding and well... I won't ruin the surprise. But, this is "Ties the Knot" so most of the story will revolve around the wedding preparation of Becky and Luke.Luke and Becky have a joint account for their household expenses. Is a MuMu skirt really a household expense? Becky's mom starts planning the wedding they have saved for even before she goes back to the US. But, wait Luke's mom decided that she will pay for a wedding at the Plaza in NY. Becky is dead set against the Plaza until she sees it and the wedding planner starts to make her dreams come true. Becky will decide which one she wants and then everything will be ok. But in true Becky luck things happen to make it impossible to cancel the Plaza wedding but -- No it can't be true can Becky be hiding the truth 2 weddings the same day on different continents? Also can she handle the stress of the ultimate shopping experience - wedding registry. In this one you will again feel for Becky as she is trying to hold it all together, especially when Luke has some issues and is not a help. I laughed hysterically and also hurt for Becky in this one again. A fantastic book!
Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: I thought this book was really fun. I couldn't put it down. Becky Bloomwood gets herself in quite a situation with two weddings going on at the same time on different continents. This crazy girl makes the rest of us not feel so bad about a little shopping!
Rating: Summary: A Total Dud Review: The main character of the book and her antics are so unbelievable, that even stretching the imagination that far is impossible. She lacks depth and brains. Also, the amount of typos and grammatical mistakes completely amazed me! Don't waste your time or money.
Rating: Summary: Shopaholic Does it Again! Review: Shopaholic Ties the Knot is the third book about Becky Bloomwood and her boyfriend Luke. Becky has moved to New York and now has the absolutely perfect job, personal shopper at Barneys! She's blissfully happy with her job and wonderful boyfriend, Luke. When he proposes, she couldn't be more thrilled. Until the battle of the mother-in-laws starts. Becky's mother wants her to get married back in London, while Luke's overbearing mother wants an all-out, no expenses spared wedding at the Plaza. Both sound good to Becky and with Luke stressing out over work, she ends up not saying no to either wedding! So now she has two weddings being planned on two continents on the same date! This novel is yet another wonderful story by Sophie Kinsella about an intriguing and fun character who has a shopping obsession! The thing I liked better about this book over the previous two is that it focused more on Becky and her relationships with her mother and Luke, and had slightly fewer shopping trips. Becky is still the same hilarious girl, always entangling herself in some kind of mess - but I felt this book delved a little deeper in to her and some of the other characters in the book. Shopaholic Ties the Knot is another great read by Kinsella, I highly recommend picking it up along with Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhatten. All three are light-hearted and fun, very easy to read and very difficult to put down once you start.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable Review: I grabbed SHOPAHOLIC TIES THE KNOT off the racks of an airport bookstore, having read every other book sold there that possibly might interest me. Being a bit too old for "chicklit," I wasn't expecting much. KNOT turned out to be a delightful surprise. Author Sophie Kinsella has created a marvelous creature in heroine (and bride-to-be) Becky Beechwood. The voice of her character rings completely true; and Becky is a genuine New York type, even if she's English. As a New York bride myself, once-upon-a-time, I enjoyed Kinsella's descriptions. In my day, we thought that we were completely over the top but I have noticed, among the daughters of friends, that the current generation of brides makes their mothers look like amateurs. Kinsella got all of this energy, the obsessiveness, and manic attempts at perfection, rampant in modern wedding planning. At the same time, she tells an interesting story which includes a conflict that does not inform the reader of its resolution early on, a problem in too many other women's novels. The ancillary characters are compelling as well, in a medium that rarely includes any characters other than the hero and heroine. I don't like reading sequels before original work but, in this situation, I am going to go backwards and read the first two SHOPAHOLIC novels. SHOPAHOLIC TIES THE KNOT was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and the plane was landing before I knew it.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: After reading Confessions of a Shopaholic and the Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, I had to find out what happens next with Becky Bloomwood! This book is hilarious! Becky Bloomwood continues to get herself into more trouble than you could possibly imagine. I spent the entire read wondering how she would get out of trouble this time. The answer is never predictable!!!
Rating: Summary: Planning a wedding (or two!) can be stressful Review: Hopefully you've acquainted yourself with the spending habits (it's a sickness really) and rationalizations of one Becky Bloomwood in Kinsella's series Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. In this 2003 follow-up, Becky is up to her old habits by the 8th page, where she finds a lovely antique trunk for her best friends Suze and Tarquin as their wedding gift. But why not also get an antique cocktail cabinet for her and Luke, a combined total of $800! Becky's been living in New York with her handsome, successful boyfriend Luke for about a year while she works at Barney's as (you guessed it) a personal shopper. Now engaged, Becky and Luke are getting married in 5 months and Becky's not going to get carried away. Yeah, right! Her mum's very excited about doing the planning herself back in England. However Luke's upper-crust birthmother, Elinor, is causing tension between everyone with her above-it-all attitude. Elinor is hosting an engagement party (well, that's ok), has hired her own wedding planner (without consulting Becky and knowing full-well there's another wedding being planned in England) and has booked The Plaza! You heard me, The Plaza! Plus the little fact that the owner of Becky and Luke's apartment building is selling, forcing them to move. So far, very stressful. Wait, it gets worse (or better, for the reader). One the one hand, obviously, The Plaza. On the other hand, a wedding back home in England with her family and friends, familiar surroundings, her home. And her mum's so into the planning. She's had her house interior re-done! Which wedding will Becky choose? In which country will they exchange their vows? How long will she wait to make a decision? How many dresses will she buy? Here's a little taste: "This isn't exactly how I pictured my engagement party would be. First of all the door people try to stop me going in. Then I don't know anybody. Then the only things to eat are low-fat, high-protein cubes of fish and, even then, the wait staff look taken aback when you actually eat them." At the Bridal Shop: Cynthia smiles at us and surveys her clipboard. "So we're after something either simple or elaborate, with sleeves or strapless, possibly with beading and/or embroidery and either with a train or without." "Exactly!" My eye follows hers around the shop. "But you know I'm quite flexible." "How many have I tried on now?" "That takes us up to . . . thirty-five." "And how many have I marked so far as possibles?" "Thirty-two." "Really?" I look up in surprise. "Which ones didn't I like?" Sophie Kinsella's books are so well written. Not everyone can write humor. Some characters are outrageous while others you'd be proud to call your friend. I've enjoyed all three Shopaholic books, laughing all the way, and can't wait to read her next series.
Rating: Summary: It's not the greatest book... Review: This book was good, but not great like the other two. It was quite hard for me to want to read it after about the fifth page. This book was the hardest for me to read of the series. I know it is probably because it had to do with her getting married, and I'm older than her and not married, or attached to someone who I think would make a good husband, friend, etc... Just because you read the first two, if you are tired of all the marriage talk and information the media throws at you, don't read. If you are a newlywed or deeply in love, you will probably love this book.
