Summary: I read it and love it
Review: I was lucky enough to have purchased this book when I visited my friend in London last Thanksgiving. This is probably the funniest Shopaholic book ever. It just keeps getting better! I love the other two shopaholic books but this one is just so beefy! Becky Bloom is getting married and goes through the ups and downs of wedding planning, (plus a lot of shopping on the side), as well as the pressures of in-laws, being in NYC high society (her mother-in-law), and staying true to her English roots. It's romantic, terribly funny, and just and all-around feel good novel.

Summary: Becky Bloomwood in all her glory!
Review: This time around, Becky is not shopping so much as she is letting people shop for her -- namely, letting both her mother and future mother-in-law plan two weddings for her, one in New York and one in England -- and neither know about the other one. Luke and Becky have been living in New York for the past year when Luke proposes to Becky at her friend Suze's wedding. Both mothers instantly start making plans, and, rather than hurt anyone's feelings, Becky just lets things get out of hand as the day of the wedding(s) gets nearer and nearer.

Eleanor, Luke's stiff mother, has a sparkling dazzling display set up at NYC's famed Plaza, and Becky is enjoying the princess treatment as she is whisked to cake tastings and dress-fittings. Her mother is planning a sweet home-grown affair across the pond in Becky's hometown to take place the very same day. becky is distracting herself with setting up 5 wedding registries and trying on 40 wedding gowns rather than decide what continent the wedding will take place.

The story also involves Suze's new family life and the fact that she is not as readily available to bail Becky out as she has in the past. Luke is also mired in winning his cold and distant mother's approval and knows nothing about the dual wedding plans. Becky must figure out a balance in standing up for herself without harming Luke's precarious relationship with Eleanor or wasting lots of people's time and money. Can she do it? And HOW????

Summary: I Didn't Know What to Expect: I LOVED IT!
Review: I hadn't read the previous Shopaholic books. I didn't know what to expect. Would I understand the character? Would I get the funny memories from the past books? Yes! This book was delightful to read! I stayed up so late reading it and laughing out loud, my husband threatened to take away my book budget! It's a fun, great addition to my collection!

Summary: Best Shopaholic Yet
Review: If you enjoyed the first two Shopaholic books, you'll love this one. Sophie Kinsella just gets better and better. I feel like Becky Bloomwood is an old friend by now. Unlike some books in this genre, the author really lets you get to know the characters while creating intricately farcical plot situations that keep you reading to see how the problem will be solved. I was laughing out loud at various points throughout the book. I cant wait until the next one in the series comes out. Although I am less dazzled by the Plaza than Becky is (I'd call it imitation-elegant and I've been to many meetings there), I have to say if you are visiting New York or entertaining out of town guests, lunch at the Palm Court will be wonderful (Becky got dragged away from there.) And under no circumstances bypass dessert. Brava, Sophie!

Summary: More Becky Bloomwood antics
Review: It's not Becky Bloomwood's fault that I have grown slightly bored with 'chick-lit'. Because she is somehow adorable. And this latest adventure is a funny, light, easy and entertaining read. Becky is getting married, and finally has an excuse to buy those lovely wedding magazines. And while Becky is fantazising about dresses and shoes, her soon-to-be mother in law, Luke's non-likeable mother and Becky's own homely mum, starts preparing two very different weddings. Soon Becky is caught in the middle of it all, and what should have been the happiest time of her life, becomes a nightmare of lies, confusion and trying not to disappoint anyone. It is not as sad as it sounds. It's funny. And Becky, being Becky, is bound to find a way out of her self-created mess. Actaully, this is the best shopaholic in the series, and recommendable as the perfect beach-book.

Summary: I Love How Luke Asked Becky To Marry Him!! *SIGH*
Review: This is the second book that I've read by Ms. Kinsella and yes, I'm very much aware that I'm doing it out of order but I still find Becky Bloomwood to be a great and quirky character.

Since I've yet to read the first in this series I have not really had anything to judge it by. I found this story to be another light read that does not require brain surgery. For those that keep comparing this author to Helen Fielding I say Stop. This is unfair to both author's since they have each carved out rather unique, funny, and likable characters. Brigit is nothing like Becky except they both come from England! Move on.

I have found that there are really few "Chick-Lit" books out their that I find worth reading. Those that I do find I crow about! Becky is a ditz, Luke is a prince (okay I would like if there was just a little more to this romance but hey beggers can't be choosers!) and I thought the way he proposed was so sweet and romantic! Becky's life is funny and who can't at time relate to her?

For a light read that will help pass the time Ms. Kinsella is an author that I would highly recommend!

Summary: Becky, Becky, Becky......
Review: Becky Bloomwood shows us that she is incurable. For all of her efforts toward self control in Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, she seems to have made little progress on the fronts of truth-telling and money management. This tale has too many turns and begins to get uninteresting. If Becky weren't almost like a friend, one might consider giving up on her and the book. Good ole' Suze never fails her friend Becky and supports her until the end. I'm anxiously awaiting the September 2004 release of Shopaholic and Sister as, from what we've been told, Becky doesn't have a sister.

Summary: Becky has worn out her welcome.
Review: In this, the third installment of the "Shopaholic" series, Becky and Luke are engaged. Though, why they're together remains a mystery. They certainly don't seem to have the love, connection, or chemistry that you would expect from an engaged couple.

"Ties the Knot" is the story of Becky's wedding or weddings actually. Her mother is planning a low-key, albeit corny affair in the backyard in England while Luke's wealthy mother (aka the Society Ice Queen) lobbies for the social event of the season at The Plaza in NYC. Predictably, both weddings are scheduled for the same day and Becky cannot summon the gumption to tell either mother of the dilemma.

This book has mercifully changed focus a bit so every page is not filled with shopping and credit card debt, though there is still some of that. However, the entire plot hinges on Becky's inability to make up her mind and tell the truth...and it gets old after a while. She has become a caricature, the airheaded bimbo and it's hard to like her. In fact, I found myself rooting against her more than once.

Kinsella does have an engaging writing style and her books are easy to read. However, as in its predecessors, all other characters in this book are underdeveloped stereotypes with transparent motivations and predictable behaviors. The climax is predictable and uninteresting.

I picked up Shopaholic and Sister at the library, but am returning it unread. Becky has worn out her welcome with me.

Summary: A classic
Review: Becky Bloomwood is a shopaholic, or in other words loves to shop. She is living in New York with her boyriend Luke and is the best personal shopper at Barneys. She loves her life. But then her best friend, Suze, gets engaged and Becky can't help but to think about marriage. She' just wondering whether or not Luke would ever pop the question when he does. Becky sets herself up for a romantic backyard wedding at her mother's house in Oxshott, England until she meets with the infamous Elinor Sherman, Luke's mother. Elinor is rich and obsessed with social status, so naturally she wants a big, all-expenses-paid New York wedding at the Plaza. But how is Becky supposed to tell her mother, who's already planned her whole wedding in England, that she wants to have it New York? So Becky doesn't. Then she ends up with two weddings on the same day, and she can't seem to choose between them. Will Becky be able to get out of this one, or will she have to return one of the weddings?
I fell in love with Becky's humour in this book. I was hooked from page one. It seemed like every time Becky had a problem, no matter the size, she always found a way to let it go too far and turned it into a huge, chaotic event. Her clumsy personality and goofy remarks made the book one of my favourites. The only thing I didin't like about this book was that the ending seemed unrealistic. Not only that, but to me it wasn't really that clear as to what happened. But, other than that, the book was perfect. A sassy, fun novel you can enjoy anytime.

Summary: Hello Shopaholics!
Review: First off, I LOVE the Shopaholic books. (I haven't read Shopaholic and Sister, but the reviews seem fantastic) This being said, I think Ties the Knot is my least favorite of the first three books.
The reason it's my least favorite is that the plot lines didn't have an inevitable, problematic course of events like the previous two did. I mean, in reality, Becky could have fixed her wedding problems within ten pages of getting engaged. She spent the ENTIRE book going between the Plaza and home, the Plaza and home...A normal person would have made the decision and been done with it. I think what upset me with this installment is that the Plaza was really a way to keep Elinor happy and, frankly, any woman with a psychotic mother-in-law like that would have told her where to stick it a long time ago. I respected that Luke was more evolved in this installment, and I liked a lot of the supporting characters. I also couldn't understand what the "problem" was...Luke made it clear that he would be happy with anything Becky picked, and instead, she's roped herself into more problems that seem too far suspended above reality.
I don't want this to seem like I hate this book...I was just looking forward to it, and felt it was kind of a let down compared to the first two. Also, how come some of the reviewers are reading this book first? It's meant to go in order, so reading this first would not make any sense and you wouldn't gain an appreciation for Becky's character the way you would by reading the first two.
At any rate, I love these books (much more than Bridget Jones) and can't wait to read Shopaholic and Sister. great books! Read them in order!
