Summary: I'm now clutter-free!!
Review: This book was so excellent, that after I finished it & decluttered my apartment, I sold it (& other books I've read) on an amazon auction to declutter some more space on my bookshelf. This novel delves into decluttering your home, body, mind, and spirit. It explains how only by decluttering all of these areas will you feel the complete weights of clutter being lifted from your being. Your inner and outer self both need decluttering. I found it hard to continue reading each chapter because I kept wanting to get up and clean out drawers, closets, and cupboards so badly. Once you start to throw things away and you can see surfaces and floor spaces that were covered for months or years, it's extremely liberating and uplifting. I cleared out an area that contained boxes in front of my bedroom window (they were there from the day I moved in almost 2 years ago!!!) and was so pleased at being able to fully see the window, that I went out and got a curtain rod and a light, flowing, see through drape. Every time I see the empty space and drape I'm happy at the small feat I accomplished. Pick this book up, it has excellent tips and is easy to read. It will motivate and inspire you, filling you with useful knowledge along the way!

Summary: Extremely Motivating!
Review: You don't have to believe in Feng Shui to get your moneys worth out of this book. It had me wanting to get up early in the morning to begin the process of clearing the clutter. Within a week I had completely revamped my large home office and reorganized all my kitchen cabinets. What a feeling!

I could have done without the parts near the end of the book that took the concept to areas other than my humble abode. But, just skip over them if you're like me and the book is still worth the time and money you spend. I now have an understanding of why so much collects in my house as well as why it is so hard for me to let go of some things. Very enlightening.

Summary: Profoundly life-changing
Review: This book has changed my life. After reading this short, easy-to-read and highly motivating book, I have been throwing away, organizing and cleaning my house closet by closet and drawer by drawer. It is so amazing that I feel so postive about getting rid of clutter that only used to get moved around from one place to another. I am a life-long collector and a pack rat and now I feel so liberated! I feel so free and happy to let go! It is totally amazing! And not only does Karen share about clearing the clutter in your home, but also clearing yourself spiritually, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. I ordered the digestive cleansing products and can't wait to try them. Get this book and clear up your whole life!

Summary: At best, use only as a supplement
Review: I have to admit, I bought this book with high hopes for stopping the pack-rat instinct I inherited from my parents. After reading it, however, I was sadly disappointed. There are a good number of useful bits of information, but without an underlying knowledge of Feng Shui, the book falls flat as far as achieving its goals. My suggestion, if you don't already know a good amount about Feng Shui, then just make a few trips to Borders and read the whole book there without paying for it. If you do have a decent knowledge of the subject, then there really is no need to read this in the first place, now is there?

Summary: Short on Feng Shui, But Long On Helpfulness
Review: I read this book when I was about two-thirds of the way through de-cluttering my home. What I read in Kingston's book reinforced what I had learned in the process and continues to help me with de-cluttering.

Probably the most helpful lesson in this book is Kingston's point of view that clutter is not just about stuff, but rather it is only an external representation of our state of mind. If we are stuck, afraid, or otherwise confused, we will recreate this in our surroundings with our possessions.

What follows from this is that (a) once we bring order to our personal issues, it's easier to de-clutter or avoid clutter, or (b) making changes in our environment will necessarily cause us to feel differently and act differently. Kingston says that clutter blocks energy, and that de-cluttering creates energy.

There's actually very little feng shui philosophy in this book, which worked well for me. My personal goal is de-cluttering, not learning feng shui. But the feng shui principles of "chi" (energy) are helpful metaphors for me to use in examining my own packrat tendencies.

The book is brief but substantive, an easy read that's quite motivating and helpful.

Summary: Clean & Clear...Practice makes perfect
Review: Good Psychology! This book is highly motivating & gives you many reasons to remove the clutter (& stagnation) from your life; especially by helping you understand why you allowed the clutter into your life & why it may be hard to left go of. Is it a fix all? No. Will you become an instant wiz in clean? No. Will it motivate you to clear your clutter? YES! I read it right before I cleaned a room I was having trouble with and found the motivation I needed. Unfortunately, the room is quite a mess again! : ) I will go back to this book to gain the motivation to try again. : ) I lent this book to my mom - who has a definate problem with clutter & it motivated her too! As with any postive changes, if at first you don't succeed...(read!) With the help of this book, I will keep trying. Good luck to you!

Summary: Something to think about
Review: I found some good ideas here and a challenge to clear up some of the clutter in my life. An easy to follow and fairly useful application of Feng Shui principles.

Summary: Wonderful motivator
Review: Having built a small library of Feng Shui books, this is the most interesting and informative read I have come across. It is about so much more than why to clean up. The information on the meaning of the symbols we gather around us I found most intriguing and would like more of. This is a great book for those working to become better organized, be more efficient or effective in any area of life.

Summary: Basic Feng Shui for everyone
Review: This is the best Feng Shui book around. It covers so much material in an easy to understand format. I'm a Feng Shui consultant and recommend this book to all my clients and to anyone interested in knowing more about the ancient methods of Feng Shui.

Summary: Perfect for Packrats like Me
Review: Why did I get this book? Well, it was inexpensive and seemed straightforward. AND because I had to do a mini obstacle course every day to get around my house. While it doesn't contain much on feng shui, it is a great book about clutter. It gives explanations on WHY you keep the clutter you do and HOW to get rid of it! It may seem like "DUH just throw it away!" its not like that at all. I had magazines going back 10 years... just because I was terrified I would one day need them! But just reading this book gave me perspective and I threw them out. (Along with about 10 garbage bags of stuff I kept "just in case!") What a feeling of relief! So if you need help ridding your home of clutter I would suggest this book. Its clearly written, effective and its small so you can take it around with you!
