Summary: Great read
Review: I couldn't put this book down!Although I agree with the booklist review that the mystery was almost secondary, as a long-time Kellerman fan I loved meeting the new character of Koby and I was as interested in that as I was the mystery. I thought it was great to learn more about Cindy too and now I want to go back and re-read Stalker.

Summary: Good Story
Review: I enjoyed Faye Kellermans "Street Dreams". A little diferent then her other stories since this one centered around Lt.Deckers daughter. I have read all Faye Kellermans books and like them all.

Summary: My favorite Decker book
Review: I got this book in the mail and read it in less than 24 hour. I was not really happy with Stone Kiss, but this book was great.I didn't want to put it down. I have all of the Peter and Rina Decker books except the first one which I haven't found. This was my favorite. Good suspense, good family interaction, like a visit with old friends.

Summary: top notch
Review: I had a very hard time putting the book down after I started reading it. I thought Faye Kellerman did an outstanding job writing this book. I am looking forward to her next book after this. I would like to know when will she be going back to Barnes and Noble to autograph books. She autographed one of her earlier ones for me.
Her husband Jonathan also is an excellent writer five stars for him.

Summary: Kellerman is BACK in fine form!
Review: I have been disappointed with the last few books in the Decker series so I bought this one with some hesitation. I needn't have worried - Kellerman is back with a book that reminds me of the early books in the Peter & Rina Decker series. Kellerman focuses on Cindy Decker, Det. Decker's daughter in this mystery. Like the best of the Rita and Peter Decker books, this one has a love story interwoven with the mystery/police story that deals with cultural differences: Cindy meets and falls in love with an Ethiopian Jew. You don't have to have read any of the other Decker series books to enjoy this one, but if you have you will rejoice that all the familiar elements are here. The central mystery is well-paced and the solution isn't obvious unlike many mystery books. Peter and Rina play a supporting role but Cindy and her new romance are the stars. Welcome back Faye Kellerman!

Summary: Disappointment
Review: I have enjoyed all of Faye Kellerman's other books and bought this the day it came out. I was very disappointed; there was little or no suspense or mystery. It is certainly not a page turner! The relationship between Cindy and Koby was neither interesting or believable. I hope the next book focuses on the older generation!

Summary: Each Book Better Than The Last
Review: I have followed this series since RITUAL BATH, the first novel which I found completely by accident because of its cover and intriguing title.

I have never been disappointed by one of these books. The series has a tight and complex story arc. It is not at all like the typical Mystery Series with repeating motifs, not predictable like Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason or Columbo. If that is what you're looking to read, you will probably be disappointed.

But like those series, this one does capture the attention and keep one thinking. That's why so many science fiction readers and writers like myself also devour mysteries -- they make you think.

But Faye Kellerman also makes you feel. Mystery reading is usually a cerebral exercise, but this series details the pressure-cooker life that so many police officers lead. This series makes you feel the heat.

The Jewish family lifestyle is not just incidental decoration in these novels. It is always, in every book, including STREET DREAMS, integral to the thematic substance of the novel even when it doesn't figure in the plot. I've discussed this at greater length in my review column for December 2003. Click my name to find out more about me.

Now in STREET DREAMS Peter Decker has taken a promotion and has become management. But his daughter is in uniform and in danger. The wisdom that he has gained through all these previous novels and from his religious studies lets him guide her through the mine field. We have watched this man mature, and now we see him passing on the tricks of the trade.

STREET DREAMS takes place in the aftermath of the traumas we've seen both Peter Decker and his daughter Cindy survive in previous novels. This whole novel, with all 3 mystery plots, is all about healing trauma during a time of peace.

The resolutions of the 3 mysteries are completely unpredictable if you follow only the plot. Some veteran mystery readers will have their expectations disappointed by the ending, but actually the resolutions carry the real message of this book if you follow the emotional story line instead of the plot.

"Time Heals" -- trauma can be overcome only with enough time and enough intervening events to provide a new perspective. If you look at events from a different perspective, the same facts lead to different conclusions, different feelings.

The ending of STREET DREAMS succeeds magnificently in portraying the riches available only in maturity. It is all about perspective.

Most enticing is the hint of what the next novel will be about. The family is growing, getting more diverse and more complex, and more engrossing.

Summary: Embarrassing!
Review: I have read all in F.K.'s Decker series, and this was by far the worst. The other reviewers already noted the excessive coincidences, the silly relationship with Koby, and the disappointing subplot regarding Rina's mother. What I found most trite was that in the last pages we learn the culpret was none other than a muslim with possible terrorist links. How tedious can she get?

Summary: A Link in the Decker Family Saga
Review: I have read most of Faye Kellerman's mysteries and eagerly await the new ones. I go back and forth on whether she or her husband, Jonathan, is the better writer. Street Dreams, unfortunately is her weakest effort, and is not really a complete novel. For those who have read her prior books, Street Dreams is worth the time because it continues the story lines of the series. However, it is really several segments pieced together (with a chase scene for a little excitement) that should have been included in separate books. This is the last Faye Kellerman book I would recommend to a new reader.
