Maybe it was that it didn't take place in L.A., or that Elvis' romance in the book seemed to take center stage. But all's forgiven after reading "Sunset Express." Crais brings Elvis back to California where he belongs, and gives him a funny, suspenseful story with plenty of twists and turns. Oh and the continuing romance to boot, which here seems more relaxed, and not so forced. The key word for this book is lawyers. Think O.J. Think Dream Team. You'll get the picture. If you've never read an Elvis Cole novel before, you don't have to read them sequentially to enjoy them, although I find it more fun! Start with "the Monkey's Raincoat", and work your way through. I had to buy this title through Amazon Zshops, But it was so worth it. Crais, and Elvis will hopefully be around for many more to come.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: All aboard the Sunset Express Review: Crais does it again. The only reason I give this four and not five stars is I have come to expect so much of Crais that I have set his books for extremely high standards. Elvis Cole has developed the more tender side as his love life grows, but this doesn't take away from the intriguing mystery and the characters themselves. If anything I think these developments make Elvis become more realistic and add to the story. If you have read the previous books don't be worried that this will skip a beat. For any concerned Spenser fans, I'll say that I was a fan of Crais before I picked up a Spenser novel, and I have to admit I was initially blown away by the thought that Elvis Cole and Joe Pike were a reenactment of Spenser and Hawk. After reading this book though I think that while Crais may have been inspired by Spenser's stories, that his books do not fall into the category of imitations. They definitely stand on their own. In other words if you love Spenser then you'll love these books too, for the characters and stories and you will be begging for the next one to come along. I can only guess that this book is not published due to some issue between Crais and the publisher of this book and Indigo Slam. I found my copy at a used book store. It's definitely worth the search. No matter how you find it, pick it up and bring it home.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not the best but still pretty good Review: Don't get me wrong this was a descent book - I am just basing the rating on all the other Elvis Cole books that I have read (all of them) - now it was good - let me start by saying that. Just not up to par to the rest of them. The best ones that you should check out are Lullaby Town, Monkeys Raincoat, Voodoo River and La Requiem (the best so far) - but you should still check this out if you love Elvis and Joe Pike, awesome freakin characters by the way. Still give this book a try if you love the others. Cool characters and cool series.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Elvis does "O.J." Review: Elvis Cole and his partner, Joe Pike, get embroiled in a situation in which nothing is as it seems and nobody is either as good or as bad as they seem.
SUNSET EXPRESS is Bob Crais's return to the seedy and glamorous elements of Los Angeles and the similarities between this fictional mystery and the real-life O.J. Simpson murder case are chilling. Of course, if Elvis and Joe had been on the case, O.J. would be working on his prison tatooes iinstead of his golf swing!!
When it comes to writing hard-boiled private eye stuff, Crais is one of the best, and Joe Pike is the coolest

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Mystery Fans: Elvis does Geraldo! Review: I am a true mystery fan, but I have a hard time giving a 10 to anything I would not consider a classic. Otherwise it is great! Crais gets both the press and lawyers in one swoop! Crais' books get better and better and I look forward to the next Elvis Cole mystery with anticipation
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Don't let this one get away Review: I give this book a ten. After reading all of Robert Crais' books this is the best so far. The characters certainly more developed and the story more detailed. I had the chance to meet Robert Crais in San Francisco and was able to tell him how much I love his books. I pick it up and I can't put it down. I am glad to see Elvis get his girl! His writing makes me feel like I can see everything as it happens, real and alive!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: So predicable... Review: I quite like Crais' writing style, and the character of Elvis Cole, but the plot of this book is atrocious. After reading the first 1/4 of it, you'll know 'whodunnit', and basically how they did it. Anything that's not explained by then isn't terribly interesting anyway. The rest of the book was full of rubbish about his girlfriend and her stereotypical son... I read two pages from each chapter, and finished the book realising I hadn't missed a single important thing.
