Summary: Is non-conformity really worth the price you pay to get it?
Review: "Robinson Crusoe," by Daniel Defoe, is about a man, who like many others, feels the need to break away from conformity. He can't cope with the idea of following in his fathers footsteps, leading the same dull life that he's become so unsatisfied with. Feeling like he has no place in the world, he decides to go against his father's will and become a seafaring man. Throughout his adventures at sea it becomes clear that it isn't where he belonges. The image of his family mocking him on his return is the only thing that keeps him from giving up. Eventually he ends up marooned on an island where he is given the ultimate test: to survive in a world with no structure or form of society.

Setting plays a major role in the way this story is portrayed to the reader. Everything Crusoe learns and accomplishes is a product of his environment. It is the ultimate man versus nature story, where Crusoe is challenged with the elements which are all deeply imbedded in the setting. An escape from society and conformity is what he wanted and it is exactly what he get's. The only question left is did his freedom from society mean so much that it warranted his decision to never return.

Summary: A bit of a struggle to get through this book
Review: I've always wanted to read this book; however, I was somewhat disappointed. There were simply to many parts of the book that dwelled on how to grow raisins, goats, corn, etc. When Robinson did go exploring the island you did find yourself envisioning the beauty of the island and the surrounding waters. I found it overall a bit of a struggle to get through it, but I would recommend to any reader that you finish it.

Summary: Great Adventure
Review: Robinson Crusoe By Daniel Defoe

This book is about adventure and survival. About 300years ago, a man called Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked on a desert island. This book tells about how he lived there for about 30 years. The character, Robinson Crusoe, is very clever and resourceful. The book describes how he hunts goats and how he built a house and how he makes a boat. This is well written and easy to understand. The setting of the book is on a desert island. The Author describes this island as beautiful and big. Robinson Crusoe was able to survive on this island. When I started reading the book I thought it would be a good book. I was so excitied when I was reading this book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes survival and adventure. Since it's written in so many different versions, a person almost any age can read it.

Summary: Deeper than it looks
Review: On the surface, this appears to be just a mere adventure story. But if you look at some of the moral and religious pondering that goes on, as well as the statements Defoe makes about colonies and slavery, this is a novel that transcends time. It's not just important as a historical work, but its ideas are worth studying today. That is what truly makes it a classic.
