Summary: simplistic, not for women
Review: for me it's the worst advice possibe. A good "guru" is the one who tells you to look for the guru inside, and this book has too many simplistic fast-spriritual recipies. "Do this, do that". It looks as if he has tried to sumarize all the best selling new age books on the market. No depth. For him the Ego is the main enemy, but he fails to understand that his definition of ego is personal. He also fails to understand that ego is not only an evil critter. There is a reason we were blessed with an ego- C.K. Jung realized this. As a woman, my ego is backwards. All my life I've been told to "be good" blah blah. All his advice does is send me back to the same place- oh how lovely the world is, oh how wonderful, oh how - how not healthy for me to think so. For a man who wrote "pulling your own strings" he should know better. The book is ok for men who think they are the greatist thing in the world. Not for women. Women's ego's and men's ego's are not the same. They have different needs. Very disappointing, very unsensitive to the diverseness of the needs of souls. There is such a thing as "positive ego" but he dosn't know this.

Summary: LOOKING INWARD
Review: I am going through major life changes...divorce, left my job, changing my behaviors...this book helped me to look inward at my self and the potentially hazardous ways I live (emotionally, physically, spiritually). This books helps to identify personality traits that you may be using that is keeping you from being your higher self..the book doesn't force or expect you to believe in God (if you don't believe) but it does make you look for a deeper connection with you and "your higher power". If you need direction, want change, want answers to why we do what we do, want to be joyful, content, and happy--GET THIS BOOK and follow its direction!! I thank my friend for lending it to me!

Summary: A Truly Inspirational Book...
Review: I came across this wonderful book unexpectedly. As a peace corps volunteer, we maintain an exchange libray at the central office in the country I serve. Before I went to the office I was thinking how I would like to have some spiritual guidance, specifically in the form of a book. When I reached the office, I eyed the bookshelf, which usually has very little that interests me. Then I read the title of a hardcover book, "Your Sacred Self". I decided to check it out, doubting that it would be of any benefit to me. So I decided to turn to amazon.com and see how the reviews of this book sounded. Every review seemed positive and I decided to give it a try. I have truly been amazed by the power in the pages of this book. When I first began reading I thought it was some ersatz version of "A Course In Miracles". I was wrong, this book stands on its own, and is much more accesible than "A Course in Miracles", which I have had difficulty reading. Needless to say, this book fell into my hands at the right time. As Dr. Dyer says, nothing happens by accident. I now understand the wisdom of the saying "When the student is ready the teacher will appear". This saying definately rings true in my life. I am now charting a new journey of peace and acceptance. I am no longer obsessing about what I will do when my tenure as a peace corps volunteer ends. I am just living every moment and enjoying life more than ever before. I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone who is searching for a new understanding of life. May peace and love be with you.

Summary: Ok this book is 2 of his earlier books in 1....
Review: I don't know exactly the titles, but one of the books is his most famous book. Anyway if you want to read something of Dyer, I suggest read the most famous and/ or first one of him, because others are just a rehash. But this one has another book combined in it, so 2 for the price of one. It has good way of explaining things and deviding it (sorry native language isn't English). Well that's all for me to say, it's up to you if you buy it or go to the library?!

Summary: Good, but not as good as his book "Real Magic"
Review: I found this title not as rewarding to read as "Real Magic". I bought "Your Sacred Self" after reading and listening to the tape of the other book and found it lacking somewhat the practical and reassurring tone of Real Magic. For instance, more situational examples are given in Real Magic which help to explain better what the author is trying to say. Also, "Your Sacred Self" has more of a spiritual context that can offend if it goes too far against one's own religious faith. For instance, Dyer states that he respects all world religions but then he refers to God in the feminine which is offensive since most all major religious faiths use the masculine. I am a Christian, and everytime he did this on the tape version of this title, it made me cringe. Besides these few gripes, it's pretty good but I'd still recommend "Real Magic" over it.

Summary: It changed my life
Review: I have read many self-help books, and this one has literally changed the way I look at and deal with the world.
I find that I am able to bring much more peace into my life, and to stop worrying so much about things.
Dyer has helped me to connect to myself, appreciate myself and all those around me, and to begin to live my life as I want to and should.
I'm going to be giving this book as a gift to many people in the future. It's a treasure.

Summary: It changed my life...or at least my perception of it.
Review: I was familiar with Dr. Dyer's previous writings, and prepared to enjoy this book. But nothing prepared me for the way that it dealt so well with issues that are affecting my life in the here and now.Having received Jesus Christ as my personal savior twenty years ago this year, I had read the New Testament many times over. The concept of "dying to self" had seemed to be one I would never grasp, and I had long ago filed it under the category of platitudes= that's a safe place to hide things you can't understand but know that they should be important to you.The thing in Dr. Dyer's book that made the strongest impression was the way that he dealt with the conflict between the ego (which thrives on the illusion of seperateness) and the higher self. As Dr. Dyer says, the ego could never bear to actually meet God, for it would be finished. And so it seems that life is, after all, not a series of random coincidences, but all part of God's plan. Some people might be happier if Dr. Dyer had stuck more to "mainstream" Christian sources rather than quoting from such a broad spectrum of thinkers. Those people are more interested in making ideas safe for people than making people safe for ideas. There's one thing for sure. The nice people who run our local library would have been happier if I had read this book in a rush rather than reading and re-reading so many passages. They probably thought I was never going to return that book! -- Howard Paul Burgess

Summary: Surprising New Age Babble
Review: I was surprised to find that within the first 100 pages interspersed among some very practical advice about the focus of your life and your approach to living was complete nonsense about astral projecting, aura perception, dream walking and other new age babble..... However, I pressed on, thinking "fine, I will just ignore this new age magic twaddle and look for the good points".... much to my disappointment, it continued throughout the book. I'm not sure if Dyer as always believed in this claptrap or if he has just recently gone off the deep end, but either way, it's sad.

Summary: THE book that introduced me to transformation . . .
Review: I've re-read Dr. Dyer's Sacred Self at least 7 times. His was the first book I picked up about transformation, and I've never looked back. He introduces one to many different teachers. What's refreshing is this addition of other authors and views. When you research each of them, you learn more and more. A MUST have.

Summary: If You're Willing To Hear The Message It's Wonderful
Review: If the reader is open to Dyer's message YOUR SACRED SELF is another amazing addition to his inspirational writings. Primarily this book deals with discovering and tapping into your true self - that knowing part of you which is eternal, has perspective, is serene, and sees only situations - not problems or conflict. However, the ego (our consciousness of ourselves as separate from this underlying essence) is a barrier -- and is in direct conflict to experiencing this sacredness we all share. What Dyer offers is a plan to remove our ego and all the strivings, judgements, internal voices, addictions, and negativity in order to discover the spiritual essence inside us all. Interesting Dyer maintains that by overcoming the drive, needs, and divisiveness of the ego that every hunger we have is sated or becomes no longer important. Meditation and the ensuing awareness is the key to discovery. This is a perfect continuation of Dyer's themes and fans of the man will not be disappointed.
