Rating: Summary: Energizing for women of all ages Review: Some of the previous readers may have felt that the author's examples were "fake" and "made up" but I can tell you that if you have spent years doing something less productive than that which you knew you really ought to have done, you might actually "burst into tears" in the author's office. Admitting money mistakes can be very difficult, particularly when you "intellectually" knew better.Nonetheless, this book is energizing and encouraging. I have provided some of the charts to staff that work for me in the hopes that it will encourage them to save for their retirement early and constantly. I read many books, and I've read many on financial investing--this one provides lots of motivation and encouragement in addition to its clear explanations and wonderfully practical advice. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. There are other excellent books on investment and financial planning, and each individual should start with one that speaks to him or her. A book like this one explains the basics without confusing the consumer! Best wishes on your financial fortune!

Rating: Summary: This is a must read! Review: I also picked this book up by accident at a local book store. I saw the title and thought that maybe this book would help me get my financial life in order. I am 20 years old and thought that the best time to start was now. I was hesitant to invest and save for retirement, but after reading this book, I'm glad that I have started putting money away. Mr. Bach explains terms in a way that are easy to understand. I was intimidated by words and phrases like '401(k)' and 'money market accounts'. After reading this book, I feel like I have a much better understanding of these concepts and can put my new found knowledge to good use in securing my financial future. This is a must read for anyone who is looking to better understand the investment world and start saving smartly. It is a great book for women, but it can also be shared with your male relatives and acquaintances. It is just an all around great book!
Rating: Summary: Well written financial planning primer for women and men. Review: I am a Certified Public Accountant with a background in financial planning. In February, I purchased the book for myself. The information wasn't new, but it spoke to me in volumes. For Valentine's day, I purchased the book for my assistant and secretary. I have finished the book once, and have now been going through it a second time implementing each of the seven items. During tax season, many of my clients ask for advice? What should we be looking to invest our money in? What does the Roth mean? How much insurance do we need? How do we plan for retirement? Should we be making gifts to our children's college fund? Many times I am not able to spend as much time, during the tax season as my client will need to absorb the information provided then begin working on the plan. This book allows my clients the time to understand the basics of financial planning. Know the time requirements on both them and myself to become effective. This is a wonderful starting point. I often recommend books that I have read on financial planning, but this was the first time that I not only have recommended the book I went out and purchased over a dozen additional copies. I have given them out not just to Smart Women, but young couples, and those looking toward retirement. The information is sound. It's easy to understand. If the steps are followed they will make any client Finish Rich.
Rating: Summary: Very Insightful Review: This is a great book. I had gone to the bookstore to pick up a different book which they did not have. I came across this one and decided to buy it since the other one was not available. This book is very insightful and definitely helps you with your money. It gives steps and worksheets and advise. There are success stories and practical solutions.
Rating: Summary: Utterly Worthless Review: This author should write a book entitled "How to write an utterly useless book, then package, market, hype it such that it hits the bestseller list." If you don't beleive me, go to Barnes & Noble and skim through it. This book does not contain a single original idea. Here are some of the key lessons - 1. Money you save now will be worth more later (assuming the interest exceeds inflation). Wow...really? Thanks for that insight. 2. Take advantage of your 401k. 3. If you don't have a 401K get an IRA. 4. Audit your expense trail and uncover needless epenses (e.g. daily lattes). That's it. I am shocked that this worthless POS has hit the bestseller list. Dear author - PLEASE write a book explaining how you pulled it off. JW
Rating: Summary: excellent!!!!! Review: Bach rules! I read this book in a day. He tells of how his most important lessons in finance came from the women in his life, particularly Grandmother Bach, a woman of the Depression whose first job paid only $10 a week yet she invested so shrewdly that she had a portfolio of nearly $1 million when she retired! Bach outlines why women should take interest in investing, even more so than men (on average, we still earn less, we live longer and we will take more time out during our working lives for families than men will.) He also has women examine what their values are behind saving and investing -- not so much goals (that will come later) but values. Once a woman (or a man, for that matter) understands WHY she wants and needs a certain amount of money, taking the practical steps to save and invest comes easier and quicker. And the sooner you begin, the sooner you can live life the way you want to. And isn't that what we all want in the end, anyway?
Rating: Summary: Practical, Enlightening, Precise - for today's smart woman Review: Thanks to David, I thoroughly enjoyed this book which has also made a poitive impact on my thinking money - wise. The saying goes that behind every successful man is a woman, that's not true. Behind every successful man is a 'SMART WOMAN'. What i find particularly helpful are the planning tools/ worksheet which David has made available through the chapters and the appendix to guide the reader and shed light on the readers' current circumstances and future circumstances. If you do not know where to start, but you are desperate to get your financial life back in order : start with this book, SMART WOMEN FINISH RICH, you'll soon be back on track
Rating: Summary: A Gift Idea For Every Young Person Review: Every young man and woman should receive a copy of this books as a high school or college graduation gift. The title refers to "Smart Women", but as the author states, everyone can benefit from this important information. Well written and informative.
