Rating: Summary: Waste of time-Waste of money! Review: First off, I was disappointed the moment I received this book. I didn't notice there was only 224 pages when I ordered. I still don't know how they got 224, my book only has 217 not counting the blank and title pages. I was expecting a hard hitting suspense packed book like Sandra Brown has produced in the past. What I got a little story that could have been printed in paperback and saved me money. It'll be a while before I put money down on another hardback by Ms. Brown. The plot goes something like this, Tiel McCoy is a reporter taking her first vacation in a while when her editor informs her a newsbreaking story only three hundred miles away. Can she take the story? Of course she agreeds and goes for it. Supposedly a teenage couple are on the run from the girl's powerful father. Stopping at a little store in the middle of nowhere to call her boss for directions and an update, in walks the teenage couple who precede to rob the store. The girl, who has concealed her pregnacy for 9 months, goes into active labor. This begins the standoff. The FBI show up, one of the hostage is a mysterious hunk by the name of "Doc" who helps deliver the baby. They negotiate and so on. This could have been a great story. Instead it is cheesy. I read the book in 1 and 1/2 hours. Not only is the book short, it has large print. Trust me you could probably read it in less time if you don't put it down to do other things. It left no impact on me. Personally I don't recommend this book to anyone unless they are desperate. Wait and borrow it from some poor fool (like me) who has already bought it. I don't even know if I'll pass it around to my group of friends.
Rating: Summary: As good as it gets Review: Texas billionaire Russell Dendy is livid that his seventeen-year old daughter Sabra is pregnant by a male he considers to be a low life. Russell plans to separate the teens and give up his grandchild for adoption. However, before he can implement his plan, the young future parents skip town together. Russell calls the FBI who traps the runaways in a convenience store in a small Texas town. Ronnie, Sabra's boyfriend, pulls out a gun and holds the other customers hostage. However, the tense standoff changes when Sabra goes into labor. TV reporter Tiel McCoy and Doc (a rancher) are among the hostages. The pair tries to insure a safe delivery as well as attempt to avoid another Ruby Ridge. However, there are other people involved in the standoff that have a different agenda. There is no question that Sandra Brown's latest work will rapidly climb to the top of all the bestseller lists. STANDOFF is a gripping tale of psychological suspense starring characters readers will care about and admire. The plot moves faster than Superman racing a speeding bullet does. This pace provides the audience an adrenaline pumping experience that requires a warning label "not for faint of heart." Ms. Brown even humanizes the FBI, making them real caring people preferring to avoid bloodshed as opposed to the literary stereotype of cold-blooded legal killers. This novel is a triumphant work that will elate sub-genre fans. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Definately Worth Reading Review: I've never read a book by Sandra Brown before this one. From chapter to chapter you can't wait to find out what happens next. I also liked the fact that the whole story was written in real time. It was short but a good book.
Rating: Summary: A WONDERFL READ! Review: Once again, Sandra Brown comes through with a real page turner! I was actually late for work, because I had to find out what happened! Make sure when you start reading, you have time to finish because you will not be able to put this book down! You will fall in love with Sabra and Ronnie. There is everything you could want in a book. Suspense, romance, surprises, deep characters! Check it out! You won't be dissappointed.
Rating: Summary: Intense Thriller Review: Ms. Brown's best book ever.... the book grabs you from the start, and keeps you reading as the characters develop into people easy to identify with and cheer for. This is an fast-paced intense thriller, a great book to read over a weekend.
Rating: Summary: Very bad end Review: The story of the book is excellent, although it has too many coincidences at the beginning of it, nevertheless, the abduction and all the problems with the hostages will keep you in the book and you will not be able to close it... until the abduction ends.
The last 30 pages could be written in 5 pages or less and that end just took away a star, you can end the book when the abduction ends and read the las two pages and you will have an excellent book.
Rating: Summary: Doy!! Review: This is one to leave by the toilet. Sandra Brown needs to look up the word "prone," which in this book she repeatedly and annoyingly uses incorrectly. Pregnant women are never positioned prone. Duh!! Get a real editor.
Rating: Summary: What?? Huh?? Review: I finished this book in 3 hrs and I closed it after I read the last word. What?? I was disappointed... just that. It was a nice read, but i couldnt believe the whole story was taken in a gas station. Not like her other ones.
Rating: Summary: An entertaining way to pass the day Review: Standoff is the story of an ace TV reporter starting out her much needed vacation to a mountain getaway. She hears on the radio that two teenagers, one of whom is kidnapped, are headed towards Mexico. She decides to delay her vacation to get the story. She stops off at a convenience store and while there comes face to face with the two teenagers. One of which goes into labor in the store! The story progresses through the night and into the next day as the hostages and teenagers try to deal with the situation. I thought this story was entertaining. It was suspenseful enough to keep me reading until the end. The ending was a little sugary but that is to be expected from Sandra Brown. I thought the character development and the plot were excellent in this book. It was impossible to guess what was going to happen next. The characters were believeable and well written. This isn't a deep, soul searching book but an entertaining way to pass the day!
Rating: Summary: Brown Needs A New Blueprint Review: Sandra Brown's STANDOFF follows the same blueprint that nearly all of her novels utilize--a scrappy heroine who gets embroiled in some criminal activity and in doing so subsequently meets her future paramour, someone who always has a tortured past that they literally can't get past. Heroine in question here is television news reporter Teal McCoy who, on a vacation trip, takes a detour in order to follow a story and ends up getting caught in the middle of a standoff at a convenience store. Among those held hostage with her is a man called Doc, a doctor whose wife died under "questionable" circumstances. You already know how this is going to end from the get go, which makes the read even less fun. At some point, Brown needs to devise a new twist in her writing, because now she just seems to be using the same basic backstory for the main characters and substituting new names.
