Summary: Not worthy of Sandra Brown
Review: I too felt that this was a terrible book but for a reason that has not yet been noted by other reviewers. I was disgusted with Ms. Brown's use of blatant negative stereotypes of the characters she refers to as "the mexican men." She could have written them in a variety of roles but she chose to make them criminals. This is a commonly used and grossly unfair view of people from Mexico and Latino Americans. All of the characters in this book were flat and undeveloped. She didn't even give these two fellows names which makes it easier for people to not see them as human. I wanted stop reading it but I kept going hoping she would redeem herself. But alas it just got worse. Of all the hostages they did the least to help the situation, reinforcing the fact that they were worthless people. The revelation at the end of the book did little to dispel the negative image she had drawn of these two men. The damage was already done. Considering that Ms. Brown is from Texas she should know the major contributions Latinos have made to the development of that state. The least she could do when she includes a Latino character is reflect those contributions. I have always enjoyed Sandra Brown's books but after reading this one I doubt I will ever read another one. It would be wonderful if as a writer she used her voice to dispell and debunk negative images of people not contribute to them. I have always believed that books are some of the most valuable items on earth and would never consider throwing one away. This one, however, is going in the trash where it belongs.

Summary: Short But Compelling
Review: This was a very delightful book. Even though it wasn't as good as her others novels such Exclusive,Witness, just to mention a few. But by no means a disappointment either. It was exciting and compelling and it had you at edge of your seat.

Summary: Standoff is a write off
Review: Although this is not a best seller it is interesting reading. There were some scenes I found funny and some that were actually suspenseful. I would not recommend the book to anyone who is seeking a "hot" read for the summer, because "Standoff" will not qualify. It's good for reading in an airport if you have a long wait and you don't have any other books or magazines of interest to read while you wait on your flight. This was the last hardcover book by Sandra Brown I will buy. I will be content to wait on the next book to appear in paperback. I am disappointed after all these years to make such a statement. Maybe in the future she will return to the type of writing that made her famous and wealthy.

Summary: EXCELLENT!
Review: I would highly recommend this to anyone to read & had a great plot and story! READ IT, A REAL TREAT!

Summary: Flat and predictable
Review: I was hoping for a pleasant distraction, but this books plot plays out as predicably as any formulaic made-for-TV movie. The principles are so flat that I had trouble finishing this very short work, mostly because I found myself not caring about what happened. Perhaps the worst contrivance I have ever read occurs when the male antagonist's father relates a story of how, as a boy he kidnapped and killed a neighbor's poorly treated dog (just as he was now kidnapping and perhaps killing a poorly treated girl). Yikes.

Summary: Skip This Book
Review: I love thrillers and mystery fiction and am a true afficianado of the form. While I'd heard of Sandra Brown, I'd never read her novels. Lucky me! If Standoff is any indication of her skill, I saved myself a lot of time.

While fiction readers understand that plots often fall into place, Standoff is simply unbelievable. Ms. McCoy just happened to be in the convenience store when the teens came in to rob it, and the list is endless of silly, trite coincidences. Even moreso, the ending, filled with gratuitous poorly written sex, offended me. I'm in Italy right now on a business trip which is always my special time to read. Besides this book being a terrible disappointment I can't remember ever throwing a book away. Except Standoff, that is.

Save your money.

Summary: Whoa!...was this written by Sandra Brown?
Review: The plot was great...but I must admit this book was lower from the high standards I held Sandra Brown's books.

It was really really short and very dissapointing..when the fire between Tilly and Doc was just about to fire up...it was cut short..but the story between the two young lovers in the story was good...just like Romeo and Juliet.

Except Ronnie's emotions for Sabra was not quite shown here..all I felt from him was anxiety..fraustration and fright...where was the love between them?

The birthing process that was shown here was really good..Sabra was a great character..and as I was reading the birthing of her child..I really felt her pain..which is good for Sandra Brown to relate...(personally I don't think I would want to have a baby normally).

In here it shows that rich people's children do not have a perfect life..and money can't but happiness..'specially if the parents are cold and forbidding.

All in all this book had a lot of promise but was cut too short.

Summary: Standoff is terrible
Review: This cannot be the work of Sandra Brown! The writing is so elementary. I did not identify with characters. Story is NOT believable-stupid authority figures-a leading lady you don't even like. Please don't waste your time like i did.

Summary: Not worth the time or money
Review: I found this book very disappointing. I didn't feel any connection with the main character, Tiel and the ending was horrible. It was as if the author suddenly realized there was no sex in the book and threw it in just so there would be some. It also seemed like an afterthought to let the reader know what happened to Ronnie, Sabra, and Katherine. I'll think twice before buying another Sandra Brown book.

Summary: Excitin Plot
Review: Sandra Brown did a good job in making this bookinteresting. The plot captivates the reader's interest. Its rual Texassetting made me wonder just what kind of characters would be involved- I soon came to find out.
