Rating: Summary: Sophomoric story line--sophomoric writing Review: Aspiring novelists should find this book very inspirational. If the publishing houses are putting out pathetic, stupid, silly, boring, junk like this, well then every high school kid at a typewriter should be crankin' out the stories and sendin' them in.
Rating: Summary: Good book! Review: Tiel McCoy was great; a true heroine down to the wire. I loved the way Tiel coped under pressure. She was not whiny or squeamish when it came to blood. She was not only a perfect assistant for Doc, but she was also a perfect mate for Doc when all was over. Now Doc was portrayed as a rugged Texan, but he was a kind and considerate guy. Tough, when needed, but compassionate when need be. Standoff was about two teenagers, Sabra and Ronnie. Young and in love but Sabra's father, rich and domineering, did not approve of the match and was even more disapproving when Sabra and Ronnie sprang the news that Sabra was expecting a child. They become two desperate teenagers on the run, caring only about getting away from Mr. Dendy. It was rewarding to know that Sabra and Ronnie had people that really cared about their situation -- Tiel, Doc, FBI agent Calloway, Ronnie's dad, Mr. Davison, and Gladys and Vern. Sabra and Ronnie were two scared kids in the standoff with the hostages. The elderly couple, Gladys and Vern, were a spry couple. They showed spunk in the time of the standoff. They held up well under pressure. Overall, Ms. Brown's book was a fast, action packed read.
Rating: Summary: It is either a take-off or stand-off Review: STANDOFF by SANDRA BROWN is rather objective because it combines two of the elements Ms. Brown juggles with - romance and suspense. This book belongs to that of a take-off or a standoff to the readers - and I personally feel this falls below Ms. Brown 's standard but still manages to convince me that this is an enjoyable read. Ms. Brown is shrewd enough to choose Tiel as the typical heroine as an aggressive news reporter on the pursue of a story to catapult her into stardom. Scarred by the death of her husband, she becomes career oriented and never expected that romance blossoms at a standoff. Dr. Bradley Stanwick makes an irresistible hero who charms and enchants. However, STANDOFF collapses into a overstretched tale when Sabra and Ronnie, two lovers on the chase by Russell Dendy, are trapped into difficult circumstances like pregnancy and shootouts. It is all too predictible and it becomes hysterically prolonged and monotonous - but Ms. Brown still held grit with her emotional narrative and focused writing. Ms. Brown's suspense element as a result goes to dilution and fails to excite and trepasses into the romance boundary. The dialogue is disappointingly lame but given the constraints of a standoff, I think even a capable writer like Ms. Brown falls grave to her plot - the romance element was laudable but the others can be,regretfully, struck off.
Rating: Summary: not the usual sandra brown suspense Review: I have read every book by Sandra Brown. I like her later works with romance/suspense. However, this book was a disappointment. The whole book consists of one night. I found the characters very predictable and boring. The only positive factor is that it was short so I didn't waste much time.
Rating: Summary: GOOD.. BUT NOT GREAT Review: Although not up to the regular Sandra Brown standard of romantic/suspense, it was a good read. Short and didn't dwell anywhere too long. I would wait for the paperback or check it out at the library. You will want to read it just because it is Sandra Brown. Try Mirror Image or Slow Heat In Heaven by Sandra Brown for a taste of the real thing.
Rating: Summary: Standoff Review: The standoff starts out as a book that caught my attention. In the beging i wanted to read more and more to see what was happening. Twords the middle of the book i thought it was getting to long and to drug out. The content of the story is in the same atmosphere for to long. I thought to many un needed detail was applied. It turns out to be drama and love in one which is fun. The ending of the story was ok. It didnt tell to much of what happened with the characters i wanted to know about, but between two other characters it gave a hint to what was going to happen. I guess i didn't really enjoy the book as much as i would of liked to, because of it's long and kind of borring content, but it had some edge to it. My rating i give is two stars.
Rating: Summary: A Good Standoff Review: This was a very interesting book, even though I was told by all that I asked that it was a so-so book. I rather enjoyed it. To me it was a Romeo and Juliet love story with a twist. I enjoy reading Sandra Brown's novel because she always has a surprise for you. If you are looking for a quick read on a lazy Saturday just pick this up.
Rating: Summary: Romance and Suspense Review: Sandra Brown is a great author and Standoff will draw you in. Brown manages to integrate sexual tension with the suspense tension to increase the emotional impact. I really liked the way she started fast and kept you hooked. OK, maybe it wasn't perfect. The coincidence of reporter Tiel (the heroine) ending up in a convenience store holdup with the runaway teens, a runaway ex-doctor turned cowboy whom she had covered when he was still a doctor in Dallas, a couple of very suspicious Mexican nationals, and a midwestern couple thrown in for comic relief is extreme, especially when the runaway girl's water breaks and the baby shows up just in time. Virtually the entire novel took place at the convenience store but the narrow confines of the novel reinforce the trapped feeling that Tiel has--both trapped in the store and trapped in the life that isn't giving her what she really needs. Occasionally it was a guilty pleasure but I had a hard time putting it down.
Rating: Summary: Sandra Brown Could've Done Better Review: I think this book is like a child that drags itz feet. It was super long and boring. The characters were ok and the plot was ok but it was so LONG !! Tiel McCoy is this reporter and she stumbles upon this major story of two lovers. They're running away from one of their father because that father is a major tyrant. They get involved and the suspenseful journey begins. At least I hope its suspenseful for other readers because this was boring for me. I think Sandra Brown could've done better.
Rating: Summary: Standoff is a Great Book Review: I really liked this book. In fact, I could not put it down. Elena Sanoval, two below me, gave it a terrible writeup, as many others did. But, Ms Sanoval, you mentioned the Mexicans and that they did not have a name. Well, as we found out at the end, they could reveal their names in the beginning like everyone else, yet they chose not to. Why couldn't they volunteer their names like the others? Oh, because of what it would have revealed (will not go into that here, do not want to hurt the ending for those who have not read this great book yet). The only reason I bought this book is because of Harriet Klausner. Every book she gives a 5* rating to is excellent. She gave this book a 5* rating also. This book is excellent in mystery and romance. The romance was not to the extreme, but I liked it a lot. As I said earlier, IT IS A GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!
