Rating: Summary: In the Galaxy Review: A Wind in the Door, by Madeline L'Engle is about a girl who goes into the galaxy to save her little brother. She travels with a dragon, a teacher, Mr. Jenkins, and her friend, Calvin. This book is a very interesting book with a good emphasis on the character trait of courage. This book is a science fiction book. I really like this book. I recommend this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Cool Book! Review: A WIND IN THE DOOR is really good. The characters are great. My favorite character is Meg, a twelve year old girl. She has a dog named Fortinbras. This book really drives you into the story. For science fiction this is a good book. If you like science fiction with a twist of fantasy read this book!
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Book Review: This book was definitely one of L'Engle's best books. She combines fantasy and science fiction beautifully, and the result is a real page-turner. I read this book within two days, and the plot kept me excited and enthralled. The plot is complex, so some people may have a hard time following it. However, if you are a good reader and you enjoy fantasy and/or science fiction novels, you should definitely check this book out.
Rating: Summary: Saving a Life Review: I read the book, "A Wind in the Door". This book may be confusing for those who have not read the previous book, "A Wrinkle in Time"; although, the author added some reference as to what went on in "A Wrinkle in Time" and included much detail to insure I knew what was going on. I loved this book because it left me wondering what is, or can be, possible. It could bring the imagination back to people who have lost theirs. This book brings you out of your own world, to one much smaller. A world where time and size do not matter. One in which the only way to see, is through your own mind, and the only way to talk to others - they may be many miles away - is by talking through your mind. Because this is the sequel of "A Wrinkle in Time", it involves some of the same characters and adds several more. The main characters of "A Wrinkle in Time" - Meg, Charels Wallace, and Calvin - have had adventures that have brought them onto different planets and out of this universe, but never have they had such an adventure as this. Nor did they think of ever having one like this taking place on their own planet! However, there is a "drive of dragons" or a cherubim who, with his teacher, Blajeny, must come from a different planet to help the sick child, Charles Wallace. I highly recommend this book for anyone, between the ages of 8-15, who enjoys science fiction books and loves books that you "just can't put down".
Rating: Summary: An enthralling book Review: This is an excellent book by Madeline L'Engle. Instead of seeking answers outside - in the larger than large universe, such as in _A Wrinkle in Time_, we find sometimes the answers are inside. Smaller than small can affect the balance of good an evil in the universe as well. This microscopic but incredibly important battle is played out: good and evil fighting over - and inside - the tiny being of Charles Wallace. Superb, suspenseful writing characterizes this novel. Younger children (see other customer reviews), however, may not appreciate its nuances. But for most this work is exciting and thought-provoking to the end.
Rating: Summary: A Wind In The Door Review: A Wind In The Door is by Madeleine L'engle. It has 203 pages. The title A Wind In The Door was created from Sir Thomas Malroy in Le Morte d'Authur, ""What happened nephew," said the king, "Is the wind in that door?"" The cover is important because it is a picture of a cherubim (draggon)(i have the new cover). It has wings, many eyes, and is surrounded by fire. The characters are Meg, Calvin, Charles Wallace, Proginoskes, Blajeny, Sporos, and the Echthros. Meg is the main character who's brother is eight year old Charles Wallace. Charles Wallace is sick with a disease that may kill him. Calvin is Meg's boyfriend who met Meg in the first book, A Wrinkle In Time. Sporose is a Fari from Yadah, one of Charles Wallace's mitochondria. He is Calvin's partner assigned by Blajeny. Proginoskes is a cheribum. He is Megs partner chosen by Blajeny to pass three tests. If they do not pass them all, Charles Wallace will die and Progo will be X-ed by the Echtheros. Blajeny is a giant person who is Meg's, Charles Wallace's, Calvin's, Sporos', and Progo's teacher. He is sent to teach everyone so that they may save Charles Wallace. The setting is in a small town in Northern United States. It is around winter and has begun to snow. The plot of the story is hard to understand. At the begining of the story, Charles Wallace has just started his first year at school. He is extremely smart for his age, but everyone thinks his is making it all up and so he is beat up every day and no one will do anything about it. But a while before his first day of school, Charles Wallace gets sick. One day, Charles Wallace finds a group of draggons which turn out to be a single cherubim, Proginoskes. Blajeny and Progo introduce themselfs in the middle of the night when Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin sneek out of their houses and go for a walk in the rain. Later on in the story, when Sporos is introduced, Sporos does not want to work with a human. So before they enter Charles Wallace's mitochondria, Yadah, Blajeny takes them to a far off galixy to see the birth of a star. Then they enter Yadah. While in Yadah, they all must learn to kythe, like telicommunication. Sporos and Progo already know how to communicate that way. While in there, they find that Sporos has been talking to the Echtheros who has been telling him to kill all of the farai that have deepened. If there are no farai that have deepened, Yadah will die and so will Charles Wallace! A line in the story that I liked was, "Ahead of her was a tremendous rythmic swirl of wind and flame, but it was wind and flame quite different from the Cherubim..." pg. 144. I rated this book a single star. I wouldn't recomend A Wind In The Door because it is not well writen, the story skipa around a lot without telling that they did, and the plot is hard to understand and confusing. I thought that since I enjoyed the first book, A Wrinkle In Time, that I would have fun reading this one too. I was expecting a lot more from this book.
Rating: Summary: better than Harry Potter Review: mildly amusing. to many made up words. found the main characters unlikable, virulent, and egotistical. how did they get small enough to go into one of Charles Wallace's mitochondrion? yes they use the wrong tense throughout the whole book! basically a dud by a good writer.
Rating: Summary: This book was an execellent page turner. Review: Page after page this book lead to more suspense and a very deep plot. The classification Sci Fi would be accurate because of the true facts mixed with fiction.Inside Meg (the main character)learns the value of each little part of the body because she must go into the very smallest to save her brother Charles Wallace from the Ecthroi, an evil force out to turn the world into nothingness. The only thing the least bit wrong with this book is that the details could have been more vivid.
Rating: Summary: It was a exciting book with action and danger. Review: In the story the main character was Meg. Meg learns an important lesson that every one and thing is equal. A good part in the book is when Meg goes in to Charles Wallace and tries to get rid of the evil forces. In the story I also learned that every thing is equal.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed the book , but it was hard to understand. Review: I enjoyed this book called " The Wind in the Door."The book starts out in the twins'garden. The whole book is based on three people, Meg, Calvin and a cheribum. The conflict of this book is to save Charles Wallace. His sister tries to complete the two tasks before the faradolae stop deepening and singing the joyful song to the stars and the heavens. If the faradolae do not deepen and sing the joyful song, Charles will die. It is full of action , but hard to follow.
