Rating: Summary: Hitler relies on The Needle Review: Hitler must ultimately decide what threats are real and when. He relies on the one man he knows can accomplish the task of finding out the truth. The Needle a deep cover spy who is so confident that he does not let the intermediate folk get in his way. First, they have to believe that he actually exists. Then they have to find him. It they can find him, can they stop him? Yes, the story is intriguing. Yet it is the people interaction (loyalty, love, and credibility) and the attitude of "The Needle" that make the story. Ultimately, the question is will he succeed and what effect will this have on future generations of those who knew him.
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ! Review: I'm not a fan of spy novels because the ones I've read to date have been big disappointments. But Follett is in a league of his own! He doesn't drag you to the end but manages to make you want to race with him to the finish line! A very interesting read!
Rating: Summary: This one will keep you up late Review: Very suspenseful and engaging. Follett has a way of creating more than one story line and bringing it all together.
Rating: Summary: EXCELENT! Review: This is perhaps the best book you will ever read. It is fast-paced, and doesn't take forever to develop. It is my personal favorite, and is recomended to everyone, particulary those who are interested in war-time England.
Rating: Summary: Mike from Madison Review: Eye of the Needle By: Ken Follet This is an action packed novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout parts of the book. You watch as Nazi spy Henry Faber attempts to discover the American plan of invasion. He discovers their secret and photographs evidence. He must relay this vital information back to the Nazis so that they can prepare a defense. If he gets through, the war is almost certain to be over for the United States. Faber must lie, evade, and murder his way to the rendezvous, a German U-boat. MI5, Scotland Yard, and other police and government agencies are called upon to find and stop him. Faber steals a boat and attempts to sail away in a violent storm. He is shipwrecked on a tiny island where there are four inhabitants; a cripple, an old man, a woman, and a child. Faber is half dead, but surprised at his luck. He later kills the cripple and old man and has an affair with the woman. The woman discovers the murders and radios for help. She is given distinct instructions; don't let him talk to the boat. He attempts to radio the U-boat, but is unsuccessful due to the woman. He then makes a mad dash to escape, followed by the woman. She is determined not to let him get away, as she was told not to. The fate of the entire Ally invasion rests in her hands. I enjoyed Eye of the Needle very much. It is a well-written World War two novel. It gave me a better understanding of how we deceived the Germans. Ken Follet has a real gift for writing about espionage, and this book is no exception. The book is not slow, but can be a little confusing at times. In my opinion, two thumbs up for Ken Follet and Eye of the Needle.Written by: Mike from Madison
Rating: Summary: eye of the needle Review: this was hands down the best book by Ken Follett or anyone else i have ever read. this is the first and only book I have not been able to put down. it is a must read!
Rating: Summary: What a Classic! Review: This book started Ken Follet's career as a bestselling novelist, and deservedly so...it's an amzing piece of work. Tight plotting, an entirely believable historical premise that even ties together some of WW2's "loose ends", sizzling romance, three-dimensional characters, one of the best chase sequences I've ever read, and a finale so filled with suspense and driving mayhem that it brings "The Terminator" to mind...but with real people and real situations. Read it when you have some uninterrupted time...you won't be able to put it down!
Rating: Summary: Wish I could give it more stars! Review: I have never had a book actually make my heart throb! I really couldn't stop turning the pages. I finished it in two days after I hit around Chpater 6 or so. An abolutely wonderful ending! This book for me, a teenager, really hit home, and I would recommend it for everyone. I can't wait to start Follet's other novels. The rest of my summer reading schedule is completely booked with Follett books!
Rating: Summary: thrill a minute Review: Although Follett has never written a bad, or even a mediocre book, this is still the absolute best. The protagonist reaches off the first page and grabs you by the neck and never lets up. And he's the bad guy! The plot offers the very real possibility that a German spy of great resources, intelligence, super-human determination and loyalty snuck into London with the cold-blooded mission of obtaining vital access for Hitler's invasion forces. As usual with Follett this guy is extremely human -- you can't help identifying with him despite his being ready, willing and able to slit the throats of anybody who gets in his way. An afternoon in bed with a fully operational German spy proves to be the required antidote for the heroine of the book who is being suffocated by life with a cold crippled excuse for a husband. Will she give in to her sensuous nature or deny herself for love of country? It's never really in doubt, although the raw appeal of sexual attraction is a subject Follett has honed and refined in every book. This book is a gem.
Rating: Summary: SEX ... SPIES ... SUSPENSE. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? Review: when i'm looking for a change of pace from classic classics (like "war and peace", "the brothers karamazov", "the tale of genji", "don quijote", etc.) it's wonderful to sit back, relax, and read some classic suspense. and in this respect follett really is superb value. you get strong characters, strong plotting, and, for the picky literature buffs among us, you get strong writing -- not to be underestimated!! if you are reading this review i have little doubt you will love, "eye of the needle." don't stop here, though! pick up some of follet's other books, too. then pick up wilbur smith, particularly, "the eye of the tiger", "the sunbird", "wild justice" and the family sagas. then pick up james herbert's "rats" trilogy -- "rats", "lair", and "domain." and for relief from all this suspense, read "don quijote" for laughs. it's one of the great wonders of the world.
