Summary: Not what I had anticipated...
Review: Sabriel and Lirael are two books that I will never forget - for all it's intricacy and brilliance. After reading an amazing first and second book, I had expected Abhorsen to be more complex and intensifying than the first two books. I was slightly disappointed at what was meant to be a grand finale. I would like to think that my expectations of Abhorsen were far too high, but Sabriel and Lirael were much more complex in terms of storyline. I guess one thing that could be improved would be more Dead 'species'. It does get a bit repetitive with similar Dead creatures appearing in every chapter - if not the appearance of Gore Crows, it would be Dead Hands or Shadow Hands. One of the high points of this book's storyline for me was the revelation of who Mogget and the Disreputable Dog really were. The defeat of Orannis is, of course, interesting. Although I would have liked Abhorsen to be more electrifying and convincing, I still will recommend this series to intermediate readers for all its great writing. To end on a higher note, this trilogy is definitely NOT to be missed, mainly due to its great fantasy ideas and plotline. I congratulate Garth Nix for this fantastic fantasy series.

Summary: A great ending
Review: I highly recommend you to read Abhorsen if you have read Sabriel and Lirael. Though the ending is somewhat cliche, it was still great. I was anxious that Garth Nix couldn't pull off a fitting ending. But I was completely satisified. If you like the first two, this book is for you.

Summary: Not half as compelling as Sabriel
Review: To be honest, I was real disappointed with this book. I know it took a lot of work and all, but Sabriel's originality and mature theme is unmatched. It didn't have me hooked like Sabriel did. A lot of people have said that Nix has dumbed down the writing... and in all honestly I agree. Sabriel is a fantastic book though, and so is Shade's children. This book had a lot of potential, and although it had its unique qualities it didn't really move me. Check it out anyway and see for yourself.

Summary: Met, but did not exceed, expecations
Review: Garth Nix began this delightful series with Sabriel, followed by Lirael, and now finishes with Abhorsen. Finishing the story started in Lirael, Abhorsen highlights the journey of Abhorsen/Necromancer Lirael, Prince Sameth, Lirael's trusty dog, and the mysterious free-magic creature Mogget as they travel to battle the evil necromancer Hedge and his army of undead and prevent them from unleashing an evil the world hasn't seen in billions of years. The story begins slowly, but then shoots off. However, right at an exciting moment in the story, it changes tack and we begin hearing more about a different character. While supposedly a "good hook" to make you keep reading, I found these swift changes irritating, and I was hard pressed not to just skip ahead. Nix went into deep detail with some rather unimportant things, but neglected to explain some key events in enough detail to understand it. The story was rather flawed at points, seeming as if Nix had tired of writing the story and wanted to hurry up and finish it. However, while not as good as it's prequels, I found Lirael a worthy read and would highly recommend it to a fan of the series or of good fantasy.

Summary: ABHORSEN-GARTH NIX
Review: Lirael, part of the race of the Clayr, a magical clan of seers, was sent on a journey by her elders: She must defeat the evil necromancer that plans to unearth an evil metal sphere; destined to destroy the world!

Once again, another exciting read from Garth Nix! But only read this if you have read "Sabriel" and "Abhorsen".

Summary: ABHORSEN-GARTH NIX
Review: This is the continuing story of Lirael, who must destroy the evil necromancer that is bringing an evil to this world we have never seen!

Great! The plot and dialogue made an excellent mix! The prequels are "Sabriel" and "Lirael".

Summary: Okay, but hardly up to the level of Sabriel or Lirael
Review: I kinda liked some of the writing, but I really felt that there was just a tiny bit of plot for a long book. As a friend and fellow Garth Nix lover said, "I feel like all of Abhorsen could have been put into two chapters at the end of Lirael." I would have to agree with that. I mean, the characters got worse, if anything, the ending was boring and predictable, and the villian seemed nonexistant, so unreal was he. The only good thing about this book was how it delved deeper into Death. That was interesting, and made the difference between one star and two. Trust me on this: don't waste your money on this book. It's really not worth it

Summary: Pretty Unoriginal
Review: I don't know why so many people think this is such an amazing book. First off, to me it was very bleak and though it had a plot, it was a bit pathetic, and Garth Nix [used] many things from Tolkien, biggest being that the "companion's" name is Sam. They could have come up with better names (Death, Life, Disreputable Dog, Magic, Hedge) The bells/ pipes were hard to follow, and it was a slow book. It was still okay if you like fantasy, but the Necromancers were very stupid. I just didn't feel anything as I read this book. It was a dissapointment, becuase when I picked it up I expecting something exciting and mysterious, but all i got was a big flop.

Summary: She was the Abhorsen. No longer in waiting.............
Review: This wonderfully written book continues story so uniquely started in Sabriel and Lirael.
Lirael(the mew Abhorsen-in-Waining) and Sameth (the Wallmaker) set out on the quest to save Nick (Sam's friend) and stop the digging that Nick and a necromancer Hedge start. Something evil is buried deep within the earth, something that should never see the light of day.
Lirael and Sam are accompanied by mysterious Dog and sarcastic Mogget- Abhorsen's cat-shaped servant. As they approach the Red Lake where the digging is going they meet even more Dead Hands, Gore Crows and other dangers. Even to leave the Abhorsen's house they have to use the most dangerous way imaginable- through the caves of the Sorrowful.
One terrible mistake and the almost won battle is lost. The ancient force Orannis, the Ninth Bright Shiner, is dug up and shipped to Anselstiere. As Lirael and Sam try to catch up with Hedge, terrible news arrive- Sabriel (the Abhorsen) is dead.
Now both Lirael and Sam must face their greatest fears to win this impossible battle.
To defeat the terrible power even the Seven Bright Shiners could hardly imprison, the forces of Charter must ban together. As the time for the final spell comes Kibeth, the Walker, chooses to reveal herself. But even this is not enough to defeat Orranis. It's up to Eigth Bright Shiner, Yrael. What side will he choose?
