Summary: Nowhere near the action of previous Cross books
Review: I've always enjoyed his Cross books. They've been written well with plenty of action. I got bored with the love scenes and would have liked more cop scenes.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: the Cosby Show meets Shaft.
Review: Without a doubt Mr. Patterson has written another #1 bestseller fnas will enjoy because of the action and pacing. However the glaring grammar and usuage errors on top of run-on sentences and fragments took this one down a star but that wasn't nearly all... How perfect can one man, his friends and his family be? We need some debt of character to make one complete. Saturday morning ( and through the week) cartoons do a better job of development. It was cute in "Along came the Spider" and tolerable in his following novels. You can't help but like Mr. Cross but I'll pass on the conclusion to this one. Considering how long I anticipated this one, that's a shame.

Summary: This is a reason why they should limit the nubmer of sequels
Review: With each of the sequels, the characters have gotten a little more watered down, and more diffcult to put them in original situations. I am one of the apparent few who loved When the Wind Blows because it allowed a great author to explore other stories and not the same old characters with new "more evil" bad guys.

A good read, but lots of "suspension of disbelief" should be prescribed before reading

Summary: Should have used time wasted on "Wind" to make this better
Review: Little did I know that Patterson's reference to writing faster in the intro would be so telling once I read the book. I enjoyed such greats like Kiss the Girls (which mainly took place where I was living and going to college at the time), and Cat and Mouse for their exciting and unpredictable plots. Last year, he came out with the snoozer "When the Wind Blows" that while having an interesting concept, did not come anywhere near the suspense of earlier works. Between then and now, Patterson apparently banged out another Cross book in his spare time.

It seemed to me that his publisher did a focus group with readers to find out what they most loved about Cross. Patterson then took this info and wrote a book around it. In no previous work has Patterson spent so much time goo goo-ing and ga ga-ing between Cross and Nana. I would dare say that most Cross fans love this relationship, but Patterson is exploiting it too much these days. It was also quite obvious that a certain new character was doomed to be murdered- kind of like when you see those "new" crewmembers on Star Trek go down on an away mission and know even before "energize" that they are not coming back. Don't even get me started on the final moves of the four horseman game.

Unfortunately, "Pop" reads like a Grishamesque written-for-a-movie-deal novel instead of the original and exciting previous works from Patterson. I frankly think that Patterson would do much better to spend a little more time writing about Cross and a lot less time writing about kids with wings. I just kept waiting for the big plot twist, but it never came. It's too bad. I was really looking forward to this book.

Summary: rushed, weak ending
Review: I'm new to this author tried one of his books a long time ago couldn't get into it. His last two are good and "kiss the girls" top notch. this one had, at least what I feel is a rushed and weak ending

Summary: Best one yet
Review: The Excitement, the love, everything is in this book. yeah quick read, but I love it.

Summary: Mr. Patterson would do well to get a new editor
Review: It is disconcerting as a young writer to see glaring mistakes in a bestseller's work. I found no less than a half a dozen mistakes that either Mr. Patterson should've caught upon proofreading, (if he even does) or at the very least, an editor should catch. Although these mistakes did bog the story down and make me wonder if Mr. Patterson only writes a first draft and figures it is perfect without reading it himself, the story does move. This is typical Patterson--fast paced. I still love Alex Cross.

I did keep turning the page to find out what was going to happen next, and that's what a writer wants--a page turner. But I am thoroughly disappointed at the carelessness on the part of the author, his editor, and the folks at Little, Brown. Even thrillers need to be edited, not just fine literary works.

Summary: I was expecting a lot more
Review: Well, it at least was better than When the Wind Blows, but most anything he could have written would have been better than that awful book.

This book seemed interesting at first. I have read all of the past Alex Cross books. After a few chapters, it became too similiar to the past stories. A weird serial killer case winds up in Alex's lap. The killer not only does horrible things to his victims, he also takes a personal interest in Alex and his family. Mr. Patterson, we've been there - done that.

I also thought I noticed that the "personal news" Alex told his family was repeated twice. But I honestly did not have enough interest to go back and reread the book to find out for sure. This has been mentioned before in these reviews, so it is apparently true. This is just an awful mistake on Mr. Patterson's part and also very careless editing.

The main thing I did not like about the book was the ending. I won't give anything away, but near the end of the next to the last chapter (when they were back in Jamaica again) there was a surprise that needed a LOT more explanation. In fact, there was really NO explanation of what had happened or why. Maybe, we are supposed to anticipate the explanations and reasons in the next book. But by that time I might not remember the circumstances or care much.

Summary: entertaining, but not one of his best efforts
Review: "Pop Goes the Weasel" was a prototypical James Patterson novel: a quick, fun read facilitated by his readable writing style and lots of very short chapters which is great for those of us with TV induced short attention spans(maybe this grows out of Patterson's experiences in advertising). My only criticism of the novel was that unlike "Kiss the Girls", you find out who the perpetrator is from the get go. It's my personal opinion that a suspense novel is more entertaining when there is a whodunit element to the story line. This one just turned into one long cat and mouse chase scene.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Cross novels get weaker with time.
Review: Patterson is a gifted thriller writer.Alex Cross and John Sampson are my favorite fictional heroes outside of Jack Ryan. However, his newest Cross adventure is a major letdown. Its not that it is boring or dull. The book just does not live up to the high standards that Patterson has set for himself. Wait for the paperback. Patterson could deffinitely write faster though.
