Summary: Has he EVER been in DC?
Review: I don't think he KNOWS DC, perhaps he read about it in a book... His dialogue (especially African American's "speak" in DC) is horrible!

Filled with cliches and trite conversations... unbelievable for anyone who knows the District of Columbia!

UGGGGG.... pass this one up!.

Summary: Alex in Wonderland
Review: I have always been a fan, so I am going to give the benefit of the doubt and attribute the weakness of this latest to exhaustion and a lapse in literary judgment. One thing that struck me as particularly odd about this book is the amount of attention given to Alex's age and good looks, especially since the role of Alex Cross has already been portrayed by Morgan Freeman, who happens to be one of my favorite actors but is certainly no longer even close to age 41 or so strikingly handsome. Well, I don't imagine that any producer in his/her right mind or Morgan Freeman would risk money or career on this one.

Summary: Pop Goes his Talent
Review: Like John Grisham, Patterson seems to be grinding out schlock, hoping readers will give him the benefit of the doubt. This book suffers from gore for gore's sake, a villain too psychotic to engage the reader, and a thin, derivative plot. Earlier Alex Cross books were far better, and Patterson is in danger of ruining a good character by making him boring. He should take more time to do research before writing, and find a better editor, because this book was a mess.

Summary: Pop Goes the Series
Review: The plot and climax of the latest Alex Cross serial killer chase leaves the reader wanting the book, if not the series, to end quickly. The villians in this series are getting more and more cartoony, and the dull detours into the personal life of Alex Cross almost bring the novel to a halt. There is little doubt where the novel's plot will lead, and the climatic scene is difficult, if not impossible, to take seriously.

Summary: W O W !
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a fast read and I must disagree with some of the previous reviewers. I am not that familiar with the DC area so the complaints about the errors in local don't mean anything to me and I don't think they should. It's fiction. And if I wanted a lesson in drugs I would go to the reference section instead of the fiction section. This stuff does not matter. This was one of those books that keep you reading into the night-and that is hard to find. I'll agree the editing could have been better about the engagement. it was kind of confusing. At the end I was still flipping pages so I hope this story continues. I thought it was a good read.

Summary: Patterson's latest story loses steam
Review: This is the 3rd Alex Cross book I've read. Unfortunately, it does not live up to earlier tales. The soapbox remains the same and is constantly drilled into our heads (i.e, nobody cares about murders in southeast DC). The killer is an intelligent egomaniac who is trying to outsmart Cross, a scenario we've seen over and over. I also became annoyed with the constant references to earlier works (Soneji and Smith) which I hadn't read yet. The story was a page-turner, as all his books are, in part due to the short chapters. I found the ending to be predictable (with one unexpected twist) and decided I've had enough Patterson for a while.

Review: What amazes me is how anyone can rate this book.

I'm finished with Patterson.

Get into Jeff Deaver.

Summary: Pop goes the weasel
Review: I read the unfavorable review from the other customers and I disagree. The chapters were short but this was a well written book in my opininon. I was disappointed at the end because I wanted to know what will happen next. But this is the very first James Patterson book I have ever read, and it prompted me into looking into some of his other novels which recieved rave reviews. I would recommend you read this book maybe after you have read some of the others which include detective Alex Cross and judge for yourself.

Summary: "Pop" Corn
Review: POP GOES THE WEASEL is mindlessly diverting but not among the best Alex Cross novels...in fact, it is easily the weakest (but not as weak as WHEN THE WIND BLOWS.) There are too many plot points that James Patterson seems insistant in including but does not take the time to fully develop. The villain was interesting but RUSH, RUSH, RUSH...we barely got to know him before Cross knew who he was and that is basically the end of the story. The rest is a trial that is only partially interesting and even that isn't explained with enough detail. Plus, the kidnapping of a key characer seems gimmicky and I doubt many readers will be surprised at the outcome...so why does Patterson drag out this plot without ever adding new evidence or telling it from the victim or killer's point of view? Thus the ending is fairly corny and unbelievable. Luckily, the final pages are rather shocking and in my opinion, equal old Alex Cross books. The plot with the Four Horsemen, the kidnapping, the diplomatic immunity, Patsy Hampton, and the killer all needed a little more exploration. My advice to Patterson: slow down and take time to develop all key points in the book, lengthen chapters if necessary, and don't try to crowd too much in without fully exploring it. Overall, a pretty nice read. If only it had the excitement and the time to flesh out characters and details like KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER, the two best Cross books. Also, the killer as a taxi driver reminds one of the Pattersonesque THE BONE COLLECTOR. And some of the stuff with Christine had a slightly corny aspect. I'd recommend this one to buy in paperback for fans of the series.

Summary: Does anyone ever edit manuscripts anymore?
Review: There are tons of errors in this book that even basic research and editing should have caught. It is almost as if more than one person wrote the novel and they did not keep each other informed. An example: At the beginning of chapter 27 Alex Cross tells his family that his girlfriend has agreed to marry him. They are all very happy. At the beginning of chapter 40 Alex says, "Christine and I are going to get married soon, and then we'll all live together." "You asked her?" they all exclaimed. Yes, in chapter 27 when you all got excited the first time. It makes for very choppy reading. You stop believing in the integrity of the story.
