Rating: Summary: Learn as you are in your car Review: I found these tapes to be so great because they are completely for use in the car. No book to follow along. Now on for #2 to get better.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: I was initially skeptical that I could learn and retain any meaningful amount of Russian from just 4 hours of audio. However, after completing the tapes I was amazed at how many simple conversations I could understand and put together. The vocabulary stressed is good for the tourist or businessperson.
Rating: Summary: Listening to Learn - It's like being there! Review: I've been travelling back and forth from CIS for a year now, and can't enroll in formal language studies because of my travels. I've done some reading of Russian language, but the best way for me to learn is to be where people are speaking it and be exposed to the spoken language itself. So the Pimsleur program - both the Basic and the Intermediate - have been an incredible help to me. Because its an audio format, rather than reading, I'm developing an ear for the language at the same time as learning to speak it, and can keep progressing until next time I go overseas. It's great - it's really like being there!
Rating: Summary: 90% air Review: The CD's have so much repetition that there's no room for substance. It's frustrating to listen to all the repetition; if I want to repeat something, I can simply replay the lesson. After 8 lessons, I expect to be able to count to 10, know all the personal pronouns, and conjugate a dozen verbs. But all these CD's teach is, "Excuse, me, would you like to eat or drink?"-- about a million times.
Rating: Summary: Pimsleur is the best language-learning program available! Review: The Russian Pimsleur Language Program is a very excellent way to begin learning the language. It gives you a good introduction to the language and introduces you to Russian sounds. Not only does the Pimsleur program teach you the language, but it also teaches you the literal meaning of each word. Pimsleur is an absolute must for anyone wanting to learn Russian or any other language for that matter.
Rating: Summary: one essential phrase Review: these tapes make learning russian easy. the one phrase that sticks with me after a three year lapse is "can you tell me please, do you know where is red square?" if you can only remember one phrase, that's the best, most useful one.
