Rating: Summary: An amazing, poignant book for all ages Review: In my humble opinion, Tuck Everlasting is one of the greatest children novels of all time. Although it is classically categorized as a book for children, and I've acknowledged is as such, I consider it deep enough and beautiful enough for all ages to enjoy. The tough questions it touches on, like immortality, human greed and death, and the non-condescending but beautiful way it goes about them is really touching and though-provoking, especially since the people of its target age audience are probably just beginning to think about those sorts of things. Babbit's imagery is wonderful, but not too ornate and doesn't take away from the story. The story flows simple and real, and the characters have so much depth you can picture them perfectly. The whole story, and the quiet but significant ending really touched me and made me cry and I read it for the first time at the age of 16. I suggest this book for all children able to read it, as well as their parents.

Rating: Summary: Living forever without saying goodbye...without living Review: Tuck Everlasting holds more power than it looks like it does. A lot of kids these days are forced to read these on the torturesome summer reading lists etc. so may not appreciate it, but for anyone with a free afternoon, try this story. It's a beautifully, masterfully crafted piece of literature. It's quiet and atmospheric, and beneath the beauty and innocence presented of a Victorian world and a children's book, is foreboding and rather heartbreaking. We're presented with the Tuck family, who have been blessed, or cursed, with eternal life or immortality. And where they could be enjoying themselves profusely, the ever wise Tucks realize they hold a somewhat terrible secret that could be if found out by the general populace, as Babbit so deftly describes, one of the worst things that could happen to the world. So when Winnie Foster stumbles into their world and onto their secret, they take her away to convince her not to tell anyone else. They win her over, and they win us over, so that the ending of the book is a bittersweet one, and yet mysteriously neverending as well. The various characters also convince us in the importance and righteousness of their resolve, and take us along on the whilrwhind chain of events and adventures that occur within a few short days. You end up believing them, and you start to see the great responsibility and wonder these people have forced on them. It helps create the mystery over the story from the first few pages, a mystery with a very pitifully human core, with which we are presented. Babbit tells the whole story simply without extraneous elaboration or description. She leaves a lot unanswered on purpose, which serves in the simplicity and profundity of the tale. She allows us to think about the characters, actually think about the consequences and curiosities and sorrows of what living forever might entail, but ultimately allowing us to decide if we would want to live forever here on Earth in the first place.
Rating: Summary: my favorite book for ever and ever! Review: Tuck Everlasting has been my one of my favorite book since I was eight years old (I'm now 16)! This book is a total must read for everyone. It will only take like 2 hrs to read. Take the time and you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: A classic Review: As another reviewer commented, it's surprising to see this book's 4-star rating, but all becomes clear when you see that the low ratings are given by kids who were either made to read it or weren't ready for it. This is one of the finest novels ever written. The writing style is positively incandescent, and the theme - "Would immortality be such a good thing after all?" - is one that's hardly ever dealt with in any novel, let alone a children's book. And this book treats that question intelligently and beautifully. It's a shame that some kids are made to read this book before they can appreciate it.
Rating: Summary: An "everlasting" classic Review: Babbitt poses a very interesting question in this book: Would you want to live forever? When a lonely young girl comes across a family who has the ability to do just that. She learns their secret and they kidnap her for their own protection, and hers. She eventually is able to befriend her captors and even go out of her way to ensure their secret is kept safe. As they must leave town, they give her a small bottle of the water of eternal life so the choice can be hers. You'll have to read the book to find out what she does with it. This book will lend itself well to group discussions from fourth grade on up. The troubles associated with not being able to die and being stuck at the same age for eternity are brought up in this story. The level of the text and subject matter are appropriate for these ages. The chapters are short and the pace moves. This will help to keep children interested. Why 5 stars?: This is an appropriate text that may be just slightly challenging for fourth graders, but probably better for fifth graders. The story is at a nice pace and raises many interesting discussion questions. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A Book Worm Review: What would you say if you were faced with the opportunity to live forever? Most would say yes, or you would think they would. What if this question was having the world around you grow older and you stay the same age as yesterday, the day before that and the day before that. What if? This is a beautifully written novel about a young girl who has to make a choice. She meets an extraodinary family who befriend her and teach her the values of life and of what you make of it. The end of the novel is both touching and heartbreaking and you will never forget. It is worth reading!
