Summary: Truly charming
Review: I had not heard of "Tuck Everlasting" before the movie came out, and I knew I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie. Since I missed it in theaters, in anticipation of its DVD release, I finally read the novel. It took me awhile to get into it, to be honest, but once I did, there was no turning back. Winnie Foster is a carefully constructed character that held the story together. After the first 35 pages or so, it really picks up and I read the rest of the book in one sitting. The novel is truly enchanting, and it also managed to be a very romantic book which is rare in a story intended largely for children. My biggest problem with the novel stemmed from the large amount of imagery used. It is obviously used to suggest different visual metaphors relating to the story, but I felt it was overused and bogged down the novel. If you are a big fan of imagery, it will likely be considered well written and beautiful, but I felt it out of place in the context of the rest of the book. The 30 page interview at the end sheds some light onto the creation of the book, but the interviewer goes way too far with her questions, and I found myself rolling my eyes just reading her often ridiculous questions. I believe, in preparing for the interview, the interviewer likely began WAY overanalyzing everything possibly pertaining to the novel. Natalie Babbitt comes off as a very intelligent, creative and wise woman. The novel is beautiful, but I suggest you merely skim the interview included in this edition.

Summary: Charming Book Touching on Serious Matters!
Review: Kidnapped by delightfully "kooky" folks into a "never-aging" family, a young girl must weigh the features of living forever vs. a normal life span. Though-provoking and provides discussion material for children in the classroom. Is required novel reading in the sixth grade in our school. Important book for all children.

Summary: My summary of Tuck Everlasting
Review: The Tuck family found a magic spring in the Foster's woods that grants you too live-forever. One day Winnie Foster went outside to play and saw a toad. The toad was always there she started talking to the toad and told the toad that she would run away the next morning. And the next morning she woke up early and ran away. She was walking through the woods and herd a weird noise. So she stayed down low and listened. She stood behind a log and looked over it. She saw something amazing a boy she never thought that she would see anyone in the woods so she watched him very carefully. He was drinking water from a spring in the ground. Then his family came and had to take her too their home because, she knew too much for her own good. They told her about the spring and how she must not tell anyone about their secret. The next day when they were getting ready to take her home and the horse was gone someone had stolen their horse that night. Then one day the man in the yellow suit came to the Tuck's home and tried too take Winnie. So Mae Tuck hit the man in the yellow suit in the back of the head with a shotgun. They didn't know but the constable was right behind the man in the yellow suit. He took Winnie home and Mae Tuck to jail and said that if the mans dies she would be hung or stay in jail forever. So Winnie was back at home and after breakfast one morning she went outside to play and saw the frog again. And she went inside to ask her Grandmother if she could have a bowl of water to give the frog cause it looked thirsty. She went back outside to give the bowl of water too the frog but he was gone, so she poured the water on the crack in the earth and gave the bowl too her grandmother. She went back outside too go play and saw Jesse outside her fence. He gave her a small bottle of water to drink if she wanted to when she was 17 and to find him so they could get married. He also told her there plan to get their mom out of jail and Winnie wanted to help because it was part of her fault that she was in jail. Jesse tried to tell her that she couldn't cause could get caught put he gave in and said I'll be outside your fence at midnight meet me out here.

Summary: Tuck Everlasting
Review: Tuck Everlasting is a wonderful mix of fantasy and action. Even the boys will like this one. It's nothing like the movie in that there is no romance, but plenty of action, and it's a book that you will want to read with the whole family. It also brings up ways to good conversations. Reading this book aloud with family you will be able to talk about death and all sorts of other issues. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I read this book on the urging of my daughter who read it at age 10 as a school assignment and loved it! Thank you Natalie Babbitt for writing something so appropriate yet so thought provoking for the 9-12 year olds! It is a beautiful love story without the explicit descriptions we so often see in the world today. I'm glad my daughter had the chance to read something of this depth with an innocence all its own.
