Rating: Summary: An awesome story, but very poorly written. Review: I recently read this book in my Grade 12 English class. I tought the story and they characters in the book were incredible, but the book itself was very poorly written. It gave entire chapters on foolish details, that were not at all needed from the story. There was about 50 pages of extra reading, that in no way inhanced the story, but as for the actual story,it was awesome! I have become totally facinated with the life and actions of Edward Pierce. He was a brilliant man, and his life was full of excitement. The characters in the book were wonderful, they lead the lifestyle we can only dream about!
Rating: Summary: I thought that this book was a good one.. and I recommend it Review: This book was very good and exciting and it kept me on my toes as to what would happen next and everything. It had a lot of adventure and it was exciting to find out what would happen next. I am glad that I stuck with this book. It was hard to put down. VERY GOOD BOOK!!!
Rating: Summary: Great, a must read Review: This is one of Crichton's best books ever. He writes a great thriller and captures your imagination. If you like action packed books that don't focus in on just blood and guts, you should read this.
Rating: Summary: Crichton's best ever! Review: The Great Train Robbery is truly a wonderful novel. The amazing attention to detail in the structure of the book, along with the incredible suspense, excellent story telling and a great ending, make this an all-time best for Crichton. Anyone with an interest in 19th century history or crime, or even just a love for suspense and old fashioned robberies, and definitely ALL Crichton fans: Read it, this book is fantastic!!
Rating: Summary: What a Waste of time! Crichton's better than this! Review: Horrible book and boring as heaven! Crichton's alot better than this garbage. This Book and The Terminal Man are his worst books. Looking for pure Crichton fun? Read Sphere.
Rating: Summary: Astounding Review: One of the most side-splittingly funny stories I have ever read. The facts seem impeccable, and they are impeccably told. And most compelling of all is the fact that these events actually transpired, substantially as recounted. Unlike some of the reviewers of TGTR, I actually liked Jurassic Park, the book. I liked -- I appreciated -- Airframe even better. But The Great Train Robbery is certainly Chrichton's best-written popular work, to date. This may be partly because it was produced before the modern era of OVERpopularisation of literature, which Chrichton and many others seem to believe demands the "dumbing down" of all their work. The 1990's will go down in history as the time America had a go at ubiquitously neurotic, Victorian dementia. No, TGTR was not 15 years too early; in fact, it was most timely, for it could never have been produced today. But because it went to press when it did, we would have it today as a guidepost to lead humankind out of the bog we had fallen into and back from the path we had briefly lost. I don't know that Chrichton would necessarily agree with my imperative view of history, but nonetheless, he has produced a masterpiece in this book. If nothing else, it positively will have you rolling on the floor by the time of the climactic scene.
Rating: Summary: Good book, with clever scenes. Review: I thought this book was a good book. It had a lot of realy clever scenes, such as how they got the secret keys. This was an exciting book, like the breaking-and-enterings that occured. I definnitely think that this is one of Chrichton's best! I liked the plot, it was about the planning and executing of one of the greatest crimes of the century. I really reccomend this book to young adults around the nation.
Rating: Summary: I think that this was one of Crichton's best books published Review: Great Job! This was a great novel, with an interesting plot, that kept me on the edge of my seat. This was an intriguing story, with a great ending. I thought he could do no better. This is the best book, I have ever read !
Rating: Summary: One of Crichton's best Review: I put off reading this book, because I thought it was a 'period piece' and not really my style. Big mistake. This is a wonderful book, and I found myself totally immersed.
Rating: Summary: The Great Train Robbery was fascinating and well-written. Review: I thought that The Great Train Robbery was very interesting. Michael Crichton really captured the Victorian atmosphere. His use of slang vocabulary added more flavor. I greatly enjoyed reading about the foibles of genteel robber and I recomend this book to all.
