Summary: Horrible events humorously told
Review: I wish I could say that I'm only twelve years old and that I look forward another sixty years of reading more and more chapters of the "unfortunate events" perpetrated on Violet, Klaus and Sunny. But, alas, I'm nearly fifty and am pretty sure that I won't have much more than 30-35 good years ahead of me to read these great stories.

But that will have to do. I just hope Lemony Sickett, whoever he may be, will keep writing them because they're funny, clever and filled with droll insights that will entertain the twelve year olds and any adult who likes a well written and entertaining story. My greatest regret is that my children are all mostly grown and I won't be able to read these stories to them. There are enough chills and delightfully horrible events to keep the dullest kids happily entertained. My youngest, a 15 year old, is peeved at me right now because I've taken too long to read the Reptile Room--he loved the first volume.

Furthermore, my 24 year old daughter (who also teaches 2nd grade) keeps bugging me to read it, so that the 15 year old can read it, so that she can get her hands on it.

The bottom line is that these stories are perfect for young readers, but they're great for anyone else who is looking for some innocently wicked good fun.

The drawings by Brett Helquist, a fellow Utahn, are terrific.

Summary: Sad ending, but great book!
Review: This book is fantastic, and I just finished reading it for the 6th time. The Baudelaires go live with their Uncle Montgomery Montgomery (his first name is also his last name) and things are WONDERFUL!! But then Stephano (Count Olaf in disguise) shows up and starts threatening the children. Lemony Snicket almost had me crying in the end...it was sooooo sad, but it was a GREAT book! And hilarious! You have to read it!

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: "Outstanding" is a term which, when used here means"really, good, great, entertaining - and more than initially meets the eye." Be sure to read the dedications - and as the volumes continue: what, if anything, did Cout Olaf have to do with Beatrice? Why is the writer "compelled" to write this tale?I am sure the answers to these questons will be revealed as the saga continues... For me, money very well-spent for an entertaining, well-written, totally-original two hour read. Those of you who haveread the books will understand the structure of my first sentence.

Summary: The Reptile Room
Review: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are back in the Reptile Room belonging to a relative named Uncle Monty, (full name is Montgomery Montgomery) who has a huge house near Lousy Lane. Uncle Monty is a scientist who studies snakes. All four are going to Peru to study snakes. Uncle Monty's assistant, Gustav surprisingly quit and a new assistant named Stephano, will take his place. The children easily recognize him as someone they met in the past. Could it be Count Olaf, could it be one of the members in his Theater Troupe, or could it really be a real Stephano. Read the book and find out.

Summary: Can the poor orphans have happiness?
Review: This continues the entertaining witty story of the four Baudelaire orphans. In this book the three children are sent off to live with there Uncle Monty. When they first meet him they're surprised to find that he's a plesent person. Do Sunny Violet and Klaus have a chance of happiness? Will they escape the evil clutches of Count Oalf?

Don't count on it.

This book was just as entertaining, funny, and enjoyable as the first one in the series. I recomend reading this book to anyone who's a fan of the series. I can't wait to read the next one (I'm part-way through it already)

Summary: Great fun!
Review: I think most children's books have depressing subject-matter. These are the only ones to just state that fact openly. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the Wizard of Oz are both generally depressing. But the Snickett books have a sophisticated sense of humor that adults will appreciate as well. I have read all five and think they can be enjoyed by people of any age.
