Rating: Summary: Insulting Review: TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE could have been a great book. Instead, the author uses maudlin, hackneyed language to treat serious topics. There is no question, Morrie is a man of incredible wisdom with great life teachings to give, but Mr. Albom shamelessly panders to an audience with a tear-jerk fetish, corrupting the wisdom of an honest dying man with the language of a man enmeshed in the world of capitalism. Insultingly enough, it is entirely clear through Mr. Albom's language and writing style that he is intending for the reader to cry. One thing is clear: either Mr. Albom used this tragic story to make a lot of money, or he has unwittingly and foolishly ventured into a writing genre in which he does not belong.
Rating: Summary: A riveting, emotional , inspirational book - A must read! Review: Wow! I started the book on Friday night and finished it on Saturday morning. I've tried to determine why the book grabbed me so much? Is it because everyone thinks of their own mortality every once in a while or is it because the honesty in this book was so vivid? It's refreshing to take time from the rat race and ponder the question: why are we so inundated with our daily chores that we don't take time to think of what is really important? If this book doesn't make you cry (most people will) it will definitely inspire you.
Rating: Summary: This is an amazing book! Recommended for all! Review: This touching story of friendship, death, and the meaning of life made me think about my own mortality and my relationships with those around me. To all those that have criticised this book I say PHOOEY! You must have no heart to not see the beautiful message that Morrie Schwartz teaches through Mitch Albom. It made me laugh, cry, and think. I have passed it along to all my close friends. This is a book that every loving, compassionate person should read and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: It'll Make You Think! Review: This book really will make you look at your life in review. You will think of all the friends you have met at one point in your life, and how quickly you forgot them. As a high school senior, it made me think of all the people I have met here (in school) and how in less than a month I will never see them again. This book will make you laugh and cry. It is so touching. I think it is because it is not just a story, but it really is a life long lesson. While it entertains you like most books, it also forces you to do a reality check. You do NOT need to read this book if you don't want to think about all the people you've been a horrible person to, and all the bad things you've done. BUT...if you want to see yourself and your attitude through different eyes and you are able to face life, think about death and open to changing the way you live, you NEED to read this book. It will change your life and the way you look at your life.
Rating: Summary: HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTING! Review: I was so hyped over the reviews I read and the show on Oprah last November that I ordered 2 copies of the book right away. One for my husband and myself and one for a friend for christmas. My friend was gracious about it I guess because it was a gift but they read on and kept waiting for something to happen.....I on the other hand have never been able to finish the book....it didn't hold my attention at all. I can't believe that some people actually referred to it as 'the best book you'll ever read'...NO WAY! I was and am still terribly disappointed in the book. What a waste of my time and money. I would be ashamed to recommend this book! There isn't a 'NO STAR' rating , so I feel unduly pressured to offer a greatly undeserved 'ONE STAR' rating.
Rating: Summary: A Triumph of the Spirit! Review: Having been born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area, I'm very familiar with Mitch Albom and really love his work. So, I find it really hard to take some of the previous reviewers who see Mitch as a greedy, money hungry, person who only got "interested" in Morrie once he saw him on "Nightline". How very UNTRUE. Mitch is a kind and generous man who was just living a life, as many of us do. Work, success and money drive so many, and the mere fact that he was able to reconect with his college professor in the last few months of Morrie's life, is a real testament to Mitch's heart. This is a wonderful story with so many lessons in it. Some may say it's too simple and we all know it, but I don't see many people living their lives that way now. The endearing soul and lessons of Morrie should be first and foremost in so many of our lives, but sadly it took the face of death for Morrie's voice to awaken them. This is an amazing book that everyone should take a few hours and read. It certainly made me rethink some decisions in my life. And, I hope that by doing that, I too, might have made Morrie proud.
Rating: Summary: Life is short, Great book, read it Review: I read this book and I think it is a great book. I don't understand how can the other reviewers criticize it so badly. It was a great book. It is very touching. I think those who critize the book are someone who can not stop whining about life and can not start giving and love others and live their lives meaningfully. yes, those life lessons, we might know them since we wer little. However, have we forgot about them as time goes by or just know them but never act on them. After I read this book, I start to think about my life and how i should not care about so much materialistic things and start to love and forgive.
Rating: Summary: A Must Have For Anyone Who Wants To Really Live Their Life Review: I laughed, I cried, then I cried some more and most of all I was touched. I don't mean that this book simply hit a raw nerve - it truly touched my soul and made me look at my life anew. Trust me, I made a few changes. That is what kind of book Tuesday's With Morrie is.Pick this book up and treasure it - give it to your loved ones. Tuesday's With Morrie is a true story written by Mitch Albom, one of the top sports writers in the country (he writes for the Detroit Free Press and has a radio show). Morrie was a professor and Mitch one of his students and friends. Over the years they lost touch but when Mitch heard that Morrie was terminally ill with Lou Gerhig's disease he rushed to reconnect with his mentor. This book is the result of the Tuesday afternoons that they spent together before Morrie passed away. Within these pages, the reader gets to know Morrie and to love him. The reader learns what a person really looks back on at the end of their life and what is really important - love, laughter, family and friendships. Mitch speaks in a very clear and comfortable voice. He is never afraid to really open up, admit his weaknesses and his faults. It is this openness and honesty that really draws the reader in - without this the book would not have been the smash hit that it is. This book should be required reading for the course of Life 101. I have never been so moved by a book and never has one made such an impact on my life.
Rating: Summary: Make every day with Morrie Review: Absorb the life lessons from Morrie Schwartz into your soul and release the love back out of you to people around you, like to your spouses, your children, your parents, and keep going, the people you work with, or to the people you meet throughout the day. Like the line from the book " Love each other, or perish." A wonderful friend of mine told me about the book, "Tuesdays With Morrie," and after reading it, (a quick read), I agree with my friend, this book is thoughtful into making our lives more happy and... We're Tuesday people.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read Review: What do we need to know about death? A human question wondered by many. This book my not have all the answers, but you'll find some. You find answers not only on death, but friendship, love and other topics. You can tell Mr. Albom truly wrote this from the heart and deeply changed his life because of his dear professor. Recently, my grandma died and this book comforted me in knowing that death is not to be feared. "In learning to die, you learn to live," is what Morrie said. I recommend it to anyone and believe all people should read it to come to a deeper understanding of life.
