Rating: Summary: Learning from Morrie Review: Here is a story I would call a must read. Tuesdays with Morrie grabs you from the start, and you don't want to let go. The lead character Morrie Schwartz is the reason why. This is the story of a man, a College professor, but really a unique man in that he faced death with more dignity and courage than one can imagine. Stricken with ALS, Morrie is aware of his death sentence and faces it with grace and strength; terming it his 'final class'. A teacher to the end, he invites us to learn along with him and his former student, writer Mitch Albom. The lessons here are on love, forgiveness and family. Albom chronicles Morries last days in a sentimental story that inspires and illuminates. I give Morrie and the book an A.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully inspiring Review: I saw the movie first, then read the book. While the movie was excellent, the book was even better. And what a wonderful message! I've been volunteering now in my town, getting involved with the church, meals on wheels, and other organizations as a result of reading this inspiring tale. Wonderfully told by Mitch Albom, this well-written and fresh book will be around for years to come. What a great book! Also recommended: McCrae's Bark of the Dogwood and Empress Orchid
Rating: Summary: Fresh Look On Life Review: Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom was a short, easy read. Although the book is about life and death, it is not a deep book, but rather sweetly emotional. The book gives the reader a fresh and true look at life. Tuesdays With Morrie is a story about a student and a teacher that share a special bond. The teacher is "teaching his last lesson", the lesson of life and death. Morrie, the teacher, is sharing with Mitch, his student, his surprisingly positive approach to his impending death. For me, Morrie had two main lessons he wanted Mitch to learn. The first was about the culture of society. Morrie observed that people get too caught up with making more money, buying more things, and focusing only on beauty. Morrie thinks that the secret to happiness is surrounding yourself with people you love, your friends and your family. This unselfish love is what brings the greatest joy and peace to one's life. Also, instead of doing something because of the money or fame it might bring you, do something that you enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Tuesdays With Morrie Review: This amazing book chronicles the life of a terminally ill man and his friend as they walk together down the road to death. This book does an excellent job of chronicaling the honest exchange between a mentor and a mentee in their quest to find meaning of life in the face of death. Despite, Morries', (the mentor) failing heath, he sees the need to bring Mitch (his mentee) along on a journey filled with wisdom, respect and appreciation of the greater things in life and to fill your life with people you love and people that love you This heartfelt, profound merger of two people and the love they discover along the way, inspires the soul.
Rating: Summary: Two Stories - One Message Review: Tuesdays with Morrie is one of those books that you read in one sitting on a quiet evening curled up with a cup of tea. It is a powerful story of two men at different stages of life's journey. The young man rediscovers his mentor, a favorite college professor, who is dieing of ALS. The story is told by the young man sharing the insights he gained from reconnecting with Morrie and life insights that Morrie shares with him. I found myself listening as if I was right there with Morrie and Mitch. (I dog-eared many pages that touched beneath the surface that I will refer back to over and over again throughout the rest of my life.) Mitch wrote this very personal story, with love, respect, and admiration for the man that had touched his life when he was a young college student. It is written with raw emotion and honesty about how easy it is to lose sight of your youthful/college dreams and aspirations once you move into the mainstream. Reuniting with Morrie for their Tuesday conversations, Mitch is able to begin to remember his passions and to rethink what he is doing with his life. The story that is told in this book is of a man who was a hero to his family, friends, colleagues, and strangers around the world. Morrie's life was a journey that he embraced with love, joy, and determination until his last breath. He chose to share his dieing experience with others just as he had shared his knowledge as a professor for so many years. Always a giver Morrie did not hide his pain or his passions. Through Mitch, Morrie leaves us with key thoughts that he wanted all of us to remember. These key ideas were the guides by which he had lived his life and had found his happiness and success. The messages are simple and clear. It is up to the reader and the author to take heed and find ways to follow them. The ending comments by Mitch Albom were inspiring to this teacher and student. Thank you Mitch for sharing Morrie's teaching us.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: Tuesdays with Morrie was simply wonderful. It really was able to bring out the best in people and show just how important the time we share together really is. It did tug on the heart strings quite a bit, but was so inspiring. People can get caught up in so many things that are just not important to the real meaning of life; to love one another! I didn't want the Tuesdays to end, but was very blessed by the time Morrie gave to us through the help of Mitch.
Rating: Summary: Warm Fuzzies and Life Lessons Review: Tuesday's With Morrie was a great salute to the teachers of the world. Mitch Albom shares with us a glimpse into what must have been a very personal journey for him, spending 14 Tuesdays with his former college professor, Morrie, as Morrie is dying from ALS, "Lou Gerhigs' Disease." On each Tuesday, as Mitch witnesses this man deteriorate bit by bit, Morrie shares with Mitch life lessons about love, priorities, and relationships. Tuesday's is a great rainy day book; curl up in your favorite chair with a cup of hot chocolate and reminisce with Mitch and Morrie. It will make you want to call your mom and your favorite teacher. Both of which I recommend doing. It's not a deep book, by any means, and you should not read it looking for a philosophical description of dealing with death. It is not that. It is a love story between two friends, a teacher and his student. That we could learn as much as Mitch did.
Rating: Summary: Thought provoking book Review: There comes a time in everyone's life when it is necessary to read something that will provide you with serious intellectual stimulation. This is a book that will make you think about life though a whole different perspective. A book that will draw you in and force you to think about issues you may not have paid much attention to. Tuesdays with Morrie is full of insights, and wisdom. Morrie was the example of life that had meaning. This book will inspire you to become someone with purpose in life and make the most out of your life.Truly life changing.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING Review: Tuedays With Morrie was such an aweosme book, that every adult should read. Dying shouldn't be a word we fear, but a word we embrace. Morrie discusses all aspects of life, and the way he sees life as a dying man. The words that come out of Morrie's mouth is so inspirational, calming, and intellectual. He knows how to approach things, and isnt afraid to approach them. His words are unforgettable. This book will bring out a whole new way to look at life and death. It's a must read book. This is one of those quiet yet unbelievable books. Go out and read it!!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Morrie and Mitch shared some great moments during their time together and they become united once again. This isn't a story just about friendship, it is a story about life and happiness and how to embrace what you have while you still have it. That is what I learned reading this book and these are the lessons I will follow though the years.
