Rating: Summary: An overlook on Morrie Review: I thought the book "Tuesdays with Morrie" was very insightful. The book made me rethink about how I live my life and the ways I want to change it. I loved it when Morrie siad, "You have to learn how to die, before you can learn how to live." This is so true. I think it would be great if everybody had a freind and mentor like Morrie, to teach us the things we need to know. One thing I've learned is that forgivness is just as important as loving someone. I would recomend this book to the people who take life for granted and aren't as happy as they want to be in their life. People these days are too busy to stop and smell the roses, as they say.
Rating: Summary: A must for your collection!! Review: This was such a great book! It made me cry and laugh. It really is an inspirational book about life. It makes you think about life, and about death and dying. This book is about a teacher and a student. The teacher teaches and the student learns the lessons of life. It truly makes you contemplate on how society views death and dying. Our society teaches that death and dying is shameful. However, Morrie, the teacher explains that it shouldn't be shameful. He exposes his life and dying to teach us all a lesson....and that is "before you can live, you must learn how to die." It was one of the best books I have read.
Rating: Summary: Some of Life's Greatest Lessons In One Book Review: TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE,by Mitch Albom, was one of the best books that have ever read. Who would imagine that some of the most important lessons in life would be taught to you through a book? Mitch Albom did an incredible job of making you feel apart of the book. He made you feel like you were there through all of their tramas and all of their roller coaster emotions. This book was about a young man learning some of life's greatest lessons from his old, dying college professor. Even though they lived miles apart, they would get together every Tuesday for their final course, that would end once Morrie passed on. Mitch, the young man in the story, was like 99% of the Americans today. He was materialistic and wrapped up in money and his work. He was reunited with his professor when he saw Morrie on T.V. one day. Morrie was talking about his deadly illness and how it had changed his life. Mitch eventually went to go see his old professor and tried to learn as much as he could from him before he died. This book should be required to be read in schools all over. There is a lot to be learned by Mitch's experiences, as well as his professor's. It has definitely changed my life in a positive way.
Rating: Summary: Tuesdays with Morrie Review: Tuesdays with Morrie was a fantastic book! Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It was a very touching story of a man who brought so much joy and hope into the lives of others. It is too bad that not everyone could have a mentor like Morrie Schwartz in their lives. The way that he viewed life was amazing and I wish that I could be as true to my self as Morrie was. This book was fantastic and I defintely recommend this book to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Insipid Trash Review: This book was given to me as a "must read". After reading it, however, I would re-classify it as a "must trash".The author presents Morrie as a kind, caring, older gentlemen with lots to give in terms of life's lessons. As an interesting aside, during one part of the book, Morrie and the author discuss their mutual hatred of lawyers. I find it interesting that the author and Morrie make such hasty generalizations about the legal profession. Indeed, most lawyers I know are honorable men and woman trying their best to do their jobs carefully and compassionately. These jobs include representing battered women in court, prosecuting child molesters and assisting children through child welfare actions - to name a few. I can certainly see why Morrie would choose to hate people like this. Grotesque sarcasm aside, normally after a book I feel empty and hurt when a main beloved character passes away, regardless of the character's fictional or non-fictional status. Take T.S. Garp's demise in Irving's "The World According to Garp" for example. When Morrie died, on the other hand, the world lost someone whose life's lessons should never have been committed to paper. In short, the world had become a better place.
Rating: Summary: This is a keeper Review: I must admit it was the made for TV movie with Jack Lemmon that inspired me to purchase this book. But once it arrived, I could not put it down. This book reminds us what life is all about. We need to live as Morrie did, telling others how we feel and not waiting until it's near the end to share these emotions.
Rating: Summary: The Meaning of Life of a Dying Man. Review: I picked this book at a bookstore because of its interesting title ¡§Tuesdays with Morrie; an old man, a young man, and life¡¦s greatest lesson¡¨ Then, I was to it after I read the first paragraph of the first chapter. The author of this US bestseller is Mitch Albom, a very famous sport¡¦s columnist. He is also the author of another bestseller, ¡§Bo and Fab Five¡¨. This book is the story between Mitch Albom and his favourite college professor, Morrie Schwartz. It includes some flashback of the days when Mitch was still studying in college sixteen years ago. I think the most touching scenes include what happened on Mitch¡¦s graduation day and also the last ¡§class¡¨ Mitch had with his dying professor about the meaning of life at Morrie¡¦s house. At first, I thought that this book might just be a record of their conversations about the meaning of life. Out of my expectation, there are a lot of incidents in the story. Morrie was his favourite professor who loved dancing and swimming very much but he got ALS, a brutal illness of the neurological system which made him lose the ability to move his head. Also, he had a hard childhood. At the same time, Mitch had already encountered with death when his dear uncle, who taught him music, died in Mitch¡¦s early twenties. And he had a strange brother who got the cancer of pancreas but never let anyone does anything for him or takes care of him. So, Mitch was ripped with guilt and he was relieved when he could do something for his dying professor. The moment of the ¡§past¡¨ and the ¡§present¡¨ appeared alternatively in the book so it is like watching scenes of a movie which made me difficult to put it down. At the beginning of my reading, I sympathized with Morrie¡¦s life so I read it as a tragedy. But then, I was influenced and touched by his optimistic and progressive spirit. It is like a biography. Yet, the ideas that were taught by Morrie in this book are quite difficult to understand and I really can¡¦t ¡§digest¡¨ and ¡§absorb¡¨ them at once. But, I also have a lot of resonance with many of his ideas like the tension of opposites in our lives, how to detach ourselves and I really love the wise story about the waves and the sea. ¡§Tuesdays with Morrie¡¨ has become one of my favourite books because it makes me think about a lot of things. It makes me yearn for such a teacher, who can help me to see the world as a more profound place and give me sound advice to guide my way in my life. Mitch is lucky to have Morrie. This book is about the philosophy of life and I think we will react to it differently at different ages or after having different experiences. So, it is not only a story book, it can be a guidebook to living your life!

Rating: Summary: Thought Provoking and Soul Searching Review: In Tuesday with Morrie, Mitch Albom tells us about the last few weeks in his teacher's life Morrie Schwartz. Mitch sees his old teacher being interviewed on Nightline and afterwards visits Morrie every Tuesday until his death. Morrie was a true teacher right until as he teaches he old student how to appreciate true pleasures of life and how love and family are more important than money and careers. His lessons will continue to live on through this thought provoking and soul searching book and they will reach many more students than Morrie ever dreamed of. Morrie must have been a truly remarkable person and as soon as I finished this book I reread it. This book is highly recommended and a true 5 star book.
