Rating: Summary: Another Tool of Helping someone but NOT YOU Review: Yes, Morrie is knowledgeable No, he did not have all the answers, afterall, he's just a human (was) Yes, it's a touching story No, it's not the first touching story of life - you see the same stoyline more in a Hollywood movie (maybe a deal of adaptation is already underway) Yes, the author probably made millions out of this (thanks to all readers who are prone to hype) No, I don't think he's really into Morrie's teaching, afterall, you don't see him make tribute to his most beloved mentor through a charity fund named after Morrie with all the money earned, or really carry out the learning. Instead he made a bookdeal by leveraging his relationship with a overnight sensation of the TV, and as a self-centered opportunist, shallowly recorded the teaching as his blueprint roadmap to his fatten piggy bank.
Rating: Summary: Touched by Morries Words Review: I have heard many wonderful things about this book over the last couple of years, but I didn't believe them until I read it for myself. This story provided me with insight on my own life as well as Morries. His words were so full of passion and intelligence that there was never a dull moment in this story. It makes you question life and the quality to which you are living your own life. It makes you want to be a better person and to do the things that we sometimes forget to do in this busy world. I enjoyed reading this book and feel that it helped me to realize how many things I have to be thankful for. I suggest that everyone read this book, it has something in it for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Touching and Moving Review: I picked up this book by accident. Actually, I'm not even know who is Mitch Albom. But the title of this book had caught my eyes. So I thought that I give it a try. My God!!! I couldn't put it down. I read it through and through then at the end of the last page, I cried. This book is the truth that everyone in this planet have to face. And it was moving me the way that I never felt before. Read this book and then you will see the world in a new shade of light.
Rating: Summary: A Profound And Moving Book! Review: This book is easy to read and avoids the usual preachiness that I find in 'inspirational' type books. Those two reasons alone would have been enough for me to give this book a positive review. But beyond the general aesthetic reasons, this book crawled into every orifice of my consciousness. I found myself thinking about things during normal, every day chores. I would wake up the next morning, to remember that I had been dreaming about a particular thought that Morrie had discussed with Mitch. A book that can have this type of lasting effect on me is something special in my opinion. Also recommended: THE LOSERS' CLUB by Richard Perez
Rating: Summary: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but... Review: I'm the odd duck who didn't LOVE this book. Yeah, yeah, it was sad and sweet and touching and all that. But it's a cliche to have an old man on his deathbed imparting hard-earned wisdom to a brash young comer. I probably would have liked Morrie, actually, but I think I'd have emphasized a different side of him, if I'd been writing about him. This reads too much like the ubiquitous Chicken Soup series. Too much of a good thing, even truly good things, is still too much. I'm over it.
Rating: Summary: Morrie continued to be his best! Review: This is a profoundly moving real-life story about a dying, college professor who had made the commitment to be his best regardless of the circumstances. As he became increasingly debilitated, he did not waiver from this commitment. His every word and action expressed a noble purpose. I loved this book and recommend Optimal Thinking: How to be Your Best Self by Dr. Rosalene Glickman to provide you and your loved ones with the mental resource to be your best in any and every situation.
Rating: Summary: Uplifting story about life and death Review: I am not a person who has been living a long time. I am 17, but Tuesdays with Maurie made me think of life in a whole different way. I read Tuesdays with Maurie on and off for over a year. The book is excellent, I just have been very busy with work and school. While reading Tuesdays with Maurie, I felt guilty sometimes of feeling bad for myself when I had a bad day. Maurie is somebody that anybody, and everybody, could look up to. No matter how bad his problem was, ALS was his, he would always insist to hearing Mitch's first. Maurie was an individual that anybody could have one up to and would immediately feel better. Although I never actually met Maurie, I feel like i knew him as well as anybody. Maurie is truly one of teh most genuine kind-hearted people I have ever known. Through other people's love for him, something he will always be remembered by, Maurie has made a positive impact on people like me everywhere. I not only recomend this book, I STRONGLY advise you to read this book. I have never said there is a book everybody should read, but Tuesdays with Maurie might just be the book that changes that.
Rating: Summary: Im 17 and i weaped when i read this book Review: Ive read the book and seen this movie and i must say it brought me to tears. The lessons within this book are priceless, as we all are looking for the big question : what is the meening of life. Ive spent a lot of my time lately on building a business and a career. Im not out of highschool and i spend 3-4 hours daily running it. I havent talked to my parents for more then 30 seconds in over a year. This book HAS changed things for me and it WILL for you. We all will die someday, the question will become how we lived. Thanks for listening.
Rating: Summary: Putting life into perspective can never come too late Review: Life is much more than the daily 9-5 or the more simplistic issues that typically crowd our day. This book will cause any reader to stop dead in their tracks and begin to consider the larger picture of life on topics ranging from regrets to death. A quick read but filled with deep thoughts.
Rating: Summary: Just A Well-Balanced Story Review: i read this book around the time when my father took fatally sick and i can't help but think that it was an omen of some sort. i just saw this book, never heard of it, with its nondescript cover and i bought it for no real reason. either way, i'm glad i did pick it up because it's a pretty great book. it's a story about a man who seeks out his former teacher, finding him with lou gherig's disease. they play catch-up for a good while, but then it all begins to revolve around a re-strengthening of their former bond as poor morrie wastes away. the young man comes to see morrie every tuesday and what you end up reading is one of the best described instances of heterosexual man love ever written. no intrigue. no fighting. no sex. just a memoir of something important in two men's lives. check it out.
