Rating: Summary: A moving, inspiring, and touching book! Review: I read this book with no expectations or pre-concived notions and left with a changed view on life. This was no cheesy self help book. It was an honest account of the basics of life, living, and death. Morrie was a great man who truely figured out to play the game of life and lets you in on some tips. Albom does a good job of recounting the story, and leaves you wanting more. I recommend it for everyone, especially, teachers, students, baby boomers and pessimists.
Rating: Summary: A must read! Review: The sensitivity and love the author has for Morrie is a rarity today. My father lost his battle with ALS in 1993 and I wished I'd had the insight to explore his thoughts and wisdom. Amazon.com sent the book immediately and from there I couldn't put it down - tears and all. EXCELLENT gift book about the important things in life.
Rating: Summary: A Must-Read for EVERYONE Review: I have never been so touched and challenged from reading a piece than after I read Tuesdays... The relationship between this student and his teacher goes so far beyond a chalkboard and lecture. I've never read a book that more adequately portrayed an uconditional love and trust friendship between a mentor and his hopeful protege. By far the best book I have read in years.
Rating: Summary: a little too beautiful Review: morrie seems a little too perfect. his behavior was perfect, his answers were perfect. surely he had some faults. perhaps mitch was blinded by the situation. wish I was there to observe what really happened. wish morrie was more human, more like one of us.if you like this book and you play golf, try harvey penick's little red book.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Series of Lessons on How to Live Your Life Fully Review: I saw Morrie interviewed by Ted Koppel on Nightline a while ago and was stunned. I wanted to learn more. Fortunately, this book came along and helped me spend some more time with him. I've bought several copies for friends because this book meant so much to me. It's helped me work to keep everything in life in better perspective. While this book is written with the insights of a person who's dying, it's really about living. I wish I could have known Morrie, but this book helps me get a little closer to that.
Rating: Summary: Relationships: the most important thing about life and death Review: Albom hits the proverbial nail right where you least expect it - the heart. This book is a must read for all men who long to know and be known by another significant man in their life. Dads, sons, teachers, preachers... Every man with eyes to read and hearts to bleed, hear this word: READ THIS BOOK! To my dear friend Louie who sent this book to me as a gift, "Thanks, and you're the greatest!"
Rating: Summary: An important educational tool Review: As the daughter of an ALS patient I would hope that all who remember this book remember the actual disease as much as Morrie's lessons. ALS is a devastating disease which slowly destroys the body while leaving the mind totally intact. The victim, like Morrie, must literally watch herself die. There is no cure, and patients typically have a life expectancy of two to five years after the onset of symptoms. For me, the book was certainly depressing - the things Morrie went through are exactly what I will be facing. It is heartbreaking to watch people like Morrie and my mother, once vibrant, energetic, and full of life, slowly becoming prisoners trapped in their own bodies. Although I did not come away with any major spiritual revalations, I can certainly understand how such a person could, in the midst of his troubles, emerge with such spiritual peace. And for my mother, the book has become a valuable friend. With so many people in the dark about ALS, I am hopefu! l that the success of this book makes more people aware of this devastating disease. While this may not be the greatest book ever written, its success may prove a tremendous benefit for ALS patients. Educating people about the disease is as important as finding a cure.
Rating: Summary: A touching, heartwarming story Review: This book will teach you lessons that you weren't sure you wanted to learn until you learn them from Morrie. It is an absolutely beautifully written book with such sentiment. I have read it twice and bought it for two people that I love.
Rating: Summary: Admit to the problem? Review: Similiar to all of the self-help books (or any 12 step program!), the impact and benefit of this book relies on the reader's mind-set, not the author's. I approached Tuesdays with Morrie in a welcoming tone and was not disappointed. This book is not meant to engender great feelings for Morrie but instead lead the reader through his or her own mentors. I did not grieve for Morrie but I did find a safe environment to say goodbye to my own family and friends who have departed and to reminesce about my most influential "teachers" - some of whom were academics, collegues, friends, and mere acquaintences. This is a 5 star if you're receptive; a no-star if you're not.
Rating: Summary: I was deeply moved by this amazing, yet ordinary, story. Review: I read this book just after reading THE PRINCE MAMMOTH PUMPKIN~A PARABLE (a parable about the mystery of death and rebirth) and so, with new eyes, I read this real-life story about a redemptive life and death. It is a magnificent book which led me to process afresh the times death has touched the life of my family. I am grateful for this book.
