Rating: Summary: A hackneyed, cliche tale Review: Mitch Albom has written a slim volume that has become nothing less than the "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" of the '90s -- a "feel good" book that you forget almost instantly after reading it.Just telling people that they should "love or perish" and that the single-minded pursuit of success is wrong, isn't compelling. It's rather like reading a book full of painfully obvious truths that somehow escaped the writer ... until now. Part of Morrie Schwartz's message is that Mitch Albom needed to live his life according to the ethics he espoused. How does Albom reconcile the fact that he didn't stay out on strike against the Detroit Free Press in 1995, but crossed the picket line to reclaim his six figure job, while others stayed out and lost homes and cars? As the Quakers say, it's the way you live your life, not your fancy words.
Rating: Summary: Everyone should read this book! Review: Tuesdays With Morrie is the best class I've ever attended! Morrie Schwartz shows us how to look at ourselves and the world around us with better eyes. Morrie is a teacher to the last. Mitch Albom and Morrie Schwartz have created a project that is engaging from the first paragraph. Morrie shares with us great lessons about both life and death. The lessons are so basic yet, so few of us seem to know and understand them. Everyone should read this book and share it with those that they love! Mitch and Morrie - Thank you!
Rating: Summary: A true disappointment!!! Review: This book is easy to read, and, at times, very funny. However, it lacks depth, and was utterly disappointing in that regard. The book, overall, left me wanting more. I must agree with the review and comment from the New York Times...This book simply fails to enlighten!!
Rating: Summary: Charming wisdom Review: A charming book that offers a healthy dose of unarguable wisdom. This is a lovely gift to the world, a reminder to appreciate each day as the celebration it is. For a book that spells out even more clearly HOW to live in that state of celebration (and serves it up with a hip sense of humor), I would recommend Dean Sluyter's "Why the Chicken Crossed the Road and Other Hidden Enlightenment Teachings."
Rating: Summary: This is how we should all look at living and dying! Review: Everyone should read this book. We could all learn a lesson or two from Morrie...and be much happier people if we follow his teachings.
Rating: Summary: This book touched me like none I've read in a long time. Review: I too am suffering a terminal illness. Mitch Albom and Morrie illustrated many of the emotions that I am dealing with. The world looks entirely different now. After reading this book I can better understand what I need to do with the precious remaining days that I have left.
Rating: Summary: A touching story about a special relationship Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. It's a quick read, mostly because of the relationship between the author and Morrie. It gives a disturbing look at what it is like to have ALS but also how someone can triumph over it. The life lessons taught to the author are good ones for all of us
Rating: Summary: An enlightened man's view of what's really important in life Review: I wish everyone would read this book, but especially fathers who have found themselves running the "fast track" in their careers. This book speaks to one's heart on what and who really does matter in your life and asks you to examine what legacy you are leaving behind for your children.
Rating: Summary: surprised the hell out of me Review: The enthusiasm for life that this man has and that Albom celebrates is astounding and incredibly uplifting. The equation comes to this: each day we wake up is a gift from God, so what do we do with a gift? Celebrate, honor and cherish it or defile, ignore and take it for granted? Morrie never loses his dignity because he never loses his love and appreciation of that guft. This is a book to treasure and re-read whenever we've had a "bad" day because every single thing in our life isn't exactly as we wished it would be. We are always learning and always teaching in our own ways if we're open to it and Albom has written a book of lasting and great importance. I've bought it for friends and family and recommend it to everyone.x
