Rating: Summary: Great book with great advice Review: As mentors are becoming rare these days, this book is very valuable--we can learn a lot by reading it. Many key subjects regarding life are discussed and peppered with pearls of wisdom throughout make this book a treasure and a valuable read. Another book that I enjoyed and offers many gems of wisdom about key issues of life, and it's like sitting down with a good old friend for an intimate chat, is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression" which I also bought at Amazon.com
Rating: Summary: the fact that almost 500 people have written reviews that Review: average over 4 stars is evidence enough of the impact of this book, read it and be open to its message. Morrie is a good man to be your "coach" as Mitch Albom calls him. take care of yourselves, keep warm, stay dry and have a cookie.
Rating: Summary: A truly inspirational book.... Review: How can one not look at life in any other way as beautiful after reading this book? Morrie teaches us that the major things in life are not as big as they seem. Even more important, Morrie teaches us that the little things in life, are actually quite grand...when you open your eyes. I am not going to lie, the only reason that I read this book was because it was being given out to every student at the college I attend. How thankful I am now for that opportunity.
Rating: Summary: A book full of so many great insights! Review: I loved this books, and I cried buckets. I learned so much as well, about humans, sickness, love, death and life in general. Never again will I underestimate an elderly invalid. That would have been such a great loss for our part to never have heard what Morrie had to give. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Overrated and banal at best Review: A colleague of mine loaned me the book and since I knew it was a major best seller and dealt with the relationship between a successful sports journalist and his dying former professor, I was all set for a good read. When I was given the book, I was a little surprised at how small and thin it was. When I opened it, I was further disappointed to notice that the margins were unusually wide and the spacing between the lines virtually double-spaced. In short, a very short book. And that is the problem with it. There is no substance to it. I find the book to be full of generalities and banalities. Morrie was no sage or philosopher. There is nothing particularly remarkable about him other than his facing death with courage and dignity. His revelations that "love was the answer to all problems" is trite, to say the least. Who doesn't know that? If Morrie Schwartz hadn't appeared on Ted Koppel's program but Mitch Albom had still discovered that Morrie was dying, would Albom have still written this book? I also had professors I loved and still cherish and I can truthfully say that I would never have been willing to make a buck off their television notoriety and subsequent death. Did Mitch Albom donate all his profits toward research on Lou Gehrig's disease? If he did that I would then believe that Morrie truly helped him "see the light." This is easily the most overrated book I've ever read. Thank goodness it only took 15 minutes to read it!
Rating: Summary: DO NOT PASS THIS BOOK UP!! Review: You will not regret the short time it will take you to read it...and the enrichment you will receive from it will be invaluable!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I read this book for school and thought oh great another summer reading book. After reading I thought it was not only the best summer reading book, but one of the best books I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Suberb Review: Truly inspiring. The book would make you laugh, cry, and reflect on your life. So much love, courage, wisdom, and zest for life in one man. Thank you Mitch.
Rating: Summary: An enchanting book for both the living and the dying Review: As a nurse, a woman, and a friend, I found this book to be truly inspirational. The true story of one man's journey into life and another's journey into death, and how both men made the journey side by side, provides for a one-of-a kind reading experience.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and Insightful Review: I was attracted by the cover design of this book, and I was so wonderfully surprised by the content! This book reveals that until we die, we can live a full life, and this is a great lesson of life. I was taken by Morrie's courage and his willingness to live every moment as it comes, and share his feelings and insights with us. Another book that I also picked up for its cover, a striking picture of a firewalker is Working on Yourself Does'nt Work, by Ariel and Shya Kane. They gave me so many insights on how to live in the moment, be more satisfied, in every moment of my life (and no need for imminent death). Their book had a very profound and positive effect on my personnal and professional life. I highly recommend both books. And I can't wait for the next great cover!
