Rating: Summary: Low-Cal Philosophy for the Masses Review: Handling the ultimate questions at the level of a third grade, Mitch Albom does an effective job of stripping this painful episode of any meaning by attempting to boil it down to Chicken Soup for the Soul.
Rating: Summary: Cornerstone of my life Review: I almost had to put this book down numerous times while reading it because it made me feel like I was leading an inadequate and unfulfilling life, at only sixteeen! But that may be a good thing, because I have the time to rethink my life and change my values. It was a very humbling experience, but as I read on, Morrie's views of society becamne very unrealitsic and unattainable. Our society is based around materials and money, and if you reject this then you cannot lead a prosperous life, I think. But Morrie did, and that was the thiong that amazed me the most about him. He was so at peace with himself even on his deathbed, and I pray that I can be that brave while I am facing life's biggest adventure, death. The book taught me to be not afraid of death, but to embrace it.
Rating: Summary: Tuesdays with Morrie was a very thought provoking story. Review: Since we will all eventually face death I recommend this book for everyone. The theories in it make you question your life and how you can live successfully. The interesting concept is the definition of what success really is. This book can change a persons life for the better and if enough people read the book it might affect the way we as a society live.
Rating: Summary: A story about a dying man who shares his view on living Review: In this book, Morrie is on the verge of dying yet he strives to tell others of his views on living while he still has time to experiance it. The book is well crafted and organized in an effective chronological order, with each chapter centered around a central theme in philosophy. The chapters start with ideas in philosophy as life, culture or death. Albom writes with a sense of compassion for Morrie but also with the goal of cataloging the last few years of Morrie's life. Yet Albom, does tend to lean more toward a record of Morrie's life and doesleave out some of the more emotional things in the book. This is not to say that this book doesn't bring tears, in fact it often does. This book is very well written and a great record of Morrie's ideals and beliefs that he put forth in the final years of his life.
Rating: Summary: A good plan, but impossible to achieve Review: Tuesdays with Morrie was a very touching bok, with wonderfull messages about the way we should live life. The messages Morrie tells us the readers are simple, and sound like very good ideas, for example,"Love each other or perish." The thing is that these ideas seem very easy to live by, but in reality are not. It is impossible to live life loving everyone. The messages Morrie conveyed were incredibly simple, yet impossible to achieve. The book was beautifully written, but I don't think it's going to change my life, or the way I act.
Rating: Summary: Touching, Answers question to "what makes life worth living? Review: It isn't often that a book touches me in a way that the book Tuesdays with Morrie did. Through the book my views on life were greatly challenged and over time were were changed because of the influence of the text. Tuesdays with Morrie gave me a better understanding of the world that surrounds me and also taught how to go about living the rest of my life. Tuesdays with Morrie is a heart-warming book that gives the answer to the question of "What makes lfife worth lving?" The author, Mitch Albom, tells the story of the final "course" to be taught by his dying college professor, Morrie Schwartz. Through his twelve class session with Morrie, Mitch achieves a far better understanding of the importance and value of life. Tuesdays with Morrie described the times spent between Mitch and Morrie and was often copied almost word for word from tapes that recorded the conversations between the two. One almost felt as if they were next to the two when they were having their in depth conversations. Due to the fact that Mitch Albom is describing these personal experiences almost word for word to his readers, he is more qualified to write this book. The book in my mind was one of the best and most touching books that I have ever read. Not only was the content of the book superbly moving and thought provoking, but the organization of the book was wonderful too. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: An excellently written piece of liturature Review: Tuesdays with Morrie, while jumping from the main story to flashbacks of Mitch Albom's college years with Morrie, was extremely well organized. The switches between the flashbacks, the history of their lives, and the actual fourteen week study of life and death was interesting to read, and more importantly, understandable. Without questioning what the author was actually talking about, it made the book a moving, if not a quick read. The important issues were discussed with such wisdom that this book was well worth the short amount of time it took to read. Morrie's perspectives, while rather counterculture, made more sense than many of the commonly held views of today. He describes the importance of family, love, and a well examined life, in terms that would make anyone rethink their philosophy on life. This powerful book was an excellently written piece of liturature, with messages that will affect generations.
Rating: Summary: How to live your life Review: From the first page to the last page, and every page in between, Morrie sets up the ideal way to treat others as well as to how to treat yourself. Although short, the book contains an immense amount of information on what is truly meaningful in life. Morrie Schwarz has the answers to those unanswerable questions.
Rating: Summary: Tuesdays With Morrie was a wonderful inspiration! Review: I enjoyed reading Tuesdays With Morrie very much. I like Mitch Albom's style, which makes the book easy to read and understand. It is fun getting to know Morrie throughout the story. He sounds to me like a wonderful teacher and friend. I think that the book teaches some very valuable lessons of life, but it does not really teach one how to live a meaningful life, it just explains what a meaningful life is. Yet, I think that the book is a wonderful inspiration for one to work towards. It is better to know what a meaningful life is and not know how to live one than to know nothing about it all.
Rating: Summary: An OK book with some good viewpoints. Review: Tuesdays with Morrie was one of the better non-fiction books I've ever read. I thought it was a rather emotional story, and that it made me think about many highly debated topics, such as death, and how to treat others. I appreciate both Mitch's and Morrie's viewpoints, but I still don't agree fully with all of the things they said. I was extremely surprised when all of sudden, after more than 75 years, Morrie changed his mind about God, and other spiritual matter, just because he was coming closer to death. I don't think Morrie was that remarkable, other than the way he faced death. But still, I strongly admire the way he faced death, and hope that I also have the same feelings when my time is up. But I don't think I will! I enjoyed the book, and heavily recommend it.
