Summary: Pleasant Surprise
Review: I've read a few of the "Prey" books, and while they've all been pretty decent, this was the first one that really grabbed me and held me from beginning to end.

It has an interesting fast-moving plot with interesting characters. About all that I missed was the insight into Davenport's personal life that was so present in the other "Prey" books that I've read.

But as an on-again, off-again fan of the series, I really enjoyed this book and whipped through it in just a few days.

Summary: ANOTHER DISAPPOINTMENT FROM SANDFORD
Review: As a big Prey fan who was extremely disappointed with Sandford's last novel (Sudden Prey), I held hope that this would be more along the lines of his earlier novels. No such luck. Boring, boring, boring are the three words I would use to describe this book. The only reason I finished it at all was because I was on a trip and it's the only book I had!! Don't waste your time...read one of the earlier ones instead!!

Summary: Excellent
Review: This was an easy read, but it was very good. Couldn't put it down...

Summary: decent story, too much of not enough
Review: the book starts out fast, with good characters and story but deteriorates into a maybe, what if, how did she do it, hit the nail on the head every time I guess on a clue unthriller. It beats some other summer reading but definately not his best. Reads fast like all his novels.

Summary: John...John...What happened?????
Review: A big...even huge...fan of the Prey books, I was so disappoined in this one that I didn't even finish it. About three-quarters of the way into it I realized that the two women protagonists were so one-dimensional and uninteresting that I just did not care whether Lucas caught them or not! It seems that all the typical Sandford police department banter and wit was missing from this book, and Lucas was as bland and boring as when what's his name from ER played him recently in a forgettable Prey movie on HBO or one of those networks. Come on John! I know you can do better than this! I think you need to sit down with your very first Prey book (since the one right before Certain Prey was awful too)and read it. Maybe then you will be able to make the comparison. Let's get Lucas back to his borderline psycho state and let's get some real nasty bad guys! It's tough to finish a book when there's no one to root for or care about or really hate!

Summary: Disappointing--lacks believability we expect from Sanford
Review: This new Prey book seems shallow and not well-thought out as if Sanford were under pressure to make it to the market. Accustomed as we are to his usually on-the-money characters, this book is peopled with characters that don't fit their own profiles. A successful lawyer that doesn't manifest any psychopathic behavior prior to becoming an out-of control serial killer?? A shrewd, career criminal who compromises all her own self-preservation standards?? Sanford needs to retake Psych 101.

Summary: I'm always a "Prey" fan...but missed Lucas in this one!
Review: This was a departure from the series, but was enjoyable none the less. This book is not nearly as dark or gruesome as some have been, but I did miss Lucas as the main focus of the story. John Sandford was almost playful in the situations he kept putting poor, psycho Carmel Loan. I would enjoy seeing Clara again, but I hope we go back to Lucas being the main focus of the next one. It is refreshing to see a series stay fresh and fun after all these years...unlike other series such as the Patricia Cornwall/Kay Scarpetta books.

Summary: Very good book ... high interest level ... have recommended.
Review: I read Certain Prey as soon as it was available. The best thing about the "Prey" series in my opinion is the setting. How refreshing to read a book set in the upper midwest. Wouldn't this one make a fantastic movie? I couldn't help but try and "cast" Clara. Keep writing John Sanford!

Summary: Excellent! Just couldn't put it down!
Review: Dont start this book....if you don't have time to finish it! It enthralls you from the first sentence. I started it at the hair salon and did nothing for the rest of the day and the next but read it! John Sandford and "Lucas Davenport" at their best. When's the next "Prey" book coming?!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: As usual, a great "Prey" novel!
Review: Certain Prey is a excellent book. This novel was a little different from Sanford's other "Prey" novels, but it held up on its own. This time, Sandford was able to change the tone and setting of this book by allowing the reader to see the killers first -- up close and personal.

Thank you Mr. Sandford for the change. You allowed the characters to experience more reality of life. This change was a break from the usual format, i.e., who is killed, who is the killer, why he/she kills, main character is in love, yada, yada, yada.

Overall, I love all the characters, but Sherrill needs a little make-over. In my opinion only, she seems to be too whorish. By this I mean, her male co-workers respects her as a fellow officer, but as a woman not at all. Clean her up.

Once again great work.
