Summary: Tried and True
Review: I first started this diet 4 years ago. I am type A blood and after reading Dr. D'Adamo's book from front to back, I learned that his mother (also type A) had been a big driving force behind both his and his father's ongoing research. Three years ago, I went off this way of eating after becoming pregnant. This past year, I experienced excessive weight gain (I workout at a gym 5 days a week and eat healthy foods). I had my blood tested, thinking I was ill, even starving myself couldn't stop the weight from accumulating. I was put on anti-depressants... And, then, one day, came across this book sitting on my bookshelf. I decided to try it again, remembering my success with it previously. The 'wheat'... I cannot tell you how bad wheat it for type A. I immediately dropped 8 lbs. and was showing muscle tone (finally). I dropped down on the weight lifting and picked up yoga (suggested for type A). I look and feel (mentally, emotionally, physically) so much better. I swear by this book and have no reservations about recommending it to anyone. My mother, father, and a number of friends have bought this book and follow it. His 'diet', and, I use that term loosely because it's not actually a 'diet', allows for an enormous variety of foods... even alcohol. You don't 'give up' anything... only exchange them for something that is better for you. You won't regret purchasing this book.

Summary: IT CHANGED MY LIFE
Review: The blood type diet has changed my life for the better and I challenge all the scientist rubbishing it to try it themselves! From the age of 27 I started to suffer from acne and increasing weight gain. My Doctor prescribed anti-biotics for the acne and I ate less and less to loose weight; nothing worked. The weight gain although upsetting did not effect me like the acne as it completely took over my face and back and destroyed my self confidence. I suffered like this for six years until last year when I met my Nutritionist who I can only described as an 'Angel' at a business meeting. She, just by looking at my eyes told me I had serious digestive problems and to go and visit her. That day was the turning point in my life. I underwent a food tolerance test and the results were amazing. Every food that I had been eating, which I thought were healthy, my body could not tolerate. The list was endless of foods which I should not eat. The subject then came up about blood type and I was given a copy of ER4YT. When we compared my test results to the book I was amazed to see that every food I had shown an intolerance to was listed in the bad foods; from that point on I was converted.I am a B type and ate huge amounts of chicken, wheat, pasta and tomatoes, thinking they were healthy but they were the worst things I could have eaten. I left her office in shock but convinced this was the answer, it made sense! I changed my diet from that moment on and have never looked back. My skin cleared up almost immediately and I have lost the weight I wanted to.My energy levels have increased ten fold and I am a much happier. The most fantastic thing was it was so easy. OK cutting out bread was a bit of a problem at first but I now eat rice bread and rice pasta. The scientific evidence may not be there but what other evidence do I need? I have a clear skin, I have lost weight and I have my confidence back. STUFF the science, it works!

Summary: It worked for me.
Review: This diet is very controversial. Many people say it is not scientific. This could very possibly be true, but it could also be the style of the author to attempt to write his book in easily-understood terms. I know little about the study of Nutrition. However, I do know that there are "studies" to back up seemingly every and any theory anyone wants to promote - from veganism to acupuncture. I have been under the care of various doctors my entire life. I have an ongoing condition (not serious) that has to be monitored, and, more recently, had digestive problems for which I was hospitalized. The drugs the doctors gave me made me sicker. And they knew I had a history of drug reactions! The food I was given in the hospital was processed garbage. People might say Dr. D'Adamo's diet didn't work for them - and that is completely fine...they should try some other diet. It has worked for me. The health problems for which I was hospitalized have gone completely away. I have not had to take any presciption drugs for months. I have energy, and I have lost weight. Bottom line is - try the diet - why not? It is certainly better than eating Big Macs and sitting around whining about how much he doesn't know what he's talking about. His theories could be bunk, they could be right. But like anything anyone is trying to prove, there will be evidence for and against. If you like the results, be glad and stick with it. Personally, the results of conventional "proven" medicine have been the ones that have failed *me*.

Summary: Junk
Review: It is ludicrous that each person is different in their nutritional needs, and that we need to find what works best, using the guidelines of whatever particular book you may be reading at the moment. Humans are supposed to need widely varying types of diet, from carnivore to vegetarian, depending on their blood type. What about dogs, or elephants or giraffes? They all eat the same thing, determined by their SPECIES, not their blood type. Dogs have been domesticated and roaming the continents as long as human beings have, but vets don't blood type them before they prescribe the best diet. Why are humans the only species that qualifies?

Another diet flunks the common sense test.

Summary: Live by it
Review: I bought this book some two years ago. I live by this book. I gave up coffee and soda as a result of reading this book and it has changed my life. Pinpointing what foods are good and bad for a person is what enables someone to live a healthy life.

Summary: A Unique theory
Review: John Robbins, in his book "The Food Revolution" makes no bones about his dislike of some recent "diet" books, including the Atkins diet; the Zone, and Dr. D'Adamo's book. I agree with Mr. Robbins on a couple of points:

There is a lack of documentation for the facts Dr. D'Adamo lists.

I find it hard to believe that meat or dairy is good for anyone!

However, I found this book to be very informative. The foods that he says type A's should keep away from are foods that indeed have caused me trouble in the past. How could he have just made that up? And as a type A, I have become a vegetarian & seen my health improve as a result.

Read this book. Take what feels right for you and leave the rest. There is much food for thought here.

Summary: eat poorly? good self-discipline? this is the book for you
Review: If you currently eat a lot of junk food or crap, but want to eat healthier, this book is a decent framework of heathly eating and portioning. My main problem with this book is that most people already know what food are healthy (fruit, veggies, lean meats) but lack the self control to avoid junk food. If you don't have the self control, you won't be able to follow this book's guidelines either. Especially since some of the guidelines seem very arbitrary, like as a type B, I can't eat tomatoes. My problem with that is 1) I love tomatoes 2) how can tomatoes be bad for me? 3) I feel fine after I eat tomatoes (and I do eat a lot of them). Rather than considering some foods poison and some foods medicine, I think that people are better off eating reasonable portions and paying attention to how they feel after eating foods. For example, I am starting to pay more attention to how I feel after eating meals or snacking, and noticed that my fingers swell and I get bloated after drinking coke. While this is gross, it's been a couple of weeks without coke and I feel a bit better. I did sneak half of one over the weekend, but felt so yucky that I tossed it halfway through. It's more important to pay attention to your body and think about what your feeding yourself rather than looking at a list of good foods and blindly eating them.

Summary: EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE
Review: I have not only purchased this book once but several times. Each time I mention this book to anyone they become so interested that I have to give them my copy. I have shared this book with at least 25 family members and friends. This book gave me power over my own body and my own health. I found this book interesting and intriguing, so much so, I can hardly put it down. Anyone who reads this book will come away feeling well informed and well armed to take better care of themselves.

Summary: This book confirmed what I already knew, but didn't!
Review: Last week I read ER4YT. I have always known that I lose weight and feel better when I eat mostly animal protein and low carbohydrate, but lose interest in eating this way. I just started changing my diet and feel great already in just a few days. Fortunately for me, my whole family is O types so we are doing this together this time! I have ordered the cook book and can't wait to get it. I tried a couple of the recipies already and they were wonderful. I finally feel like I have found a way to lose some weight and feel better. I appreciated the variety of foods allowed compared to other high protien diets and feel like I can really be happy eating this way for the long haul.

Summary: Makes you think
Review: I'm not going to go into the details of what you should and shouldn't eat because I haven't tried it, but the part mentioned on the personality area I found most fascinating. Japanese culture has had this belief for years. I'm type A and always wondered why some people are pushy and overbearing and others are more live and let live. Me and my mom are both just alike and both type A's and always want to get along with people and live in peace, rather than rule and take charge, whereas my dad and brother are both type O's, extroverted, sarcastic, and could care less of what others think. My supervisor is type B and I knew it without him telling me and only some 10% are type B's. Yes, I know of some type A's that are pushy or outgoing, but I look carefully and find they're putting strain on themselves to be that way.
