Summary: It is a Jungle IN There
Review: This book is a godsend for those willing to listen and learn, to adopt the better mind frame and leave behind the pathological frenzy of society, namely the main stream diet of today. A knowledgeable mind frame is of the essence if you want health and from learning about your body through D'Adamo's book you can approach healing directly.
Humans seem to hope for the perfect diet that is for everybody, like in the garden of Eden. But in reality we are the animal that made it to the top of the food chain in a world so ruthless and savage, one devoid of mercy or pity. Somehow humanity overcame all odds and survived, thrived. Blood types are our link to the past, to evolution itself. We are forever a mirror of the environment, as it forged us by fire in its very own image. Over time as environmental factors changed, new abilities and instincts were needed in order to survive and cope with the new conditions. Each blood type is the surviving set of genetic material that made human survival possible through the ages. The most direct factor that influenced survival was the availability of food. The organism that could eat what was available would survive much easier than one that needed rare or hard to get food. Moreover, the reality of the time was that the immune system needed a certain large amount of protein fuel in order to maintain parity with endless parasite attacks. And would have to be constructed and maintained via the food elements available for human consupmtion on a large scale basis. Thus it is logical that the digestive track and the immune system are inextricably linked. And that link is in our blood, literally.
In ER4YT, D'Adamo lays down the facts as they are, not as we want or wish. However please be advised that he has recently made some important changes to the food lists for each bloodtype. So please follow the first food lists in ER4YT with a cautious grain of salt. In his more recent research, D'Adamo has come across the secretor factor, an immunological trait that some 80% of people have. In short, secretors have immune system function within bodily secretions, such as stomach acid, saliva or bile and have the ability to directly neutralize dietary toxins directly in the stomach and intestines, or even in the mouth. Whereas nonsecretors have a great disadvantage in this regard and have much less inner protection versus pathogens in the intestines, stomach and mouth. The discernment of this difference in immunological ability has made for a further refinement of the original food lists, and can be found in the new LY4YT book. So keep in mind some of the food items listed in ER4YT aren't accurate. For instance, I am a O+ SE (secretor)and can now eat cinnamon, green peppercorn, olives, cabbage, anchovies and apple cider or juice, foods once on my avoid list. And now leeks, pinto beans, beer, white wine, safflower oil, sunflower oil and barley flour have been downgraded to avoids while bananas and mangos are upgraded to beneficials.
Three years ago I weighed upwards or 285 lbs., had severe allergies develop with hives and itches covering my body, had insomnia, constipation, mood swings extreeme, melancholy, clinical depression, paranoia, endless back pain, extreme lethargy, inability to concentrate, severe pains in my joints, endless gas and bloating, alcoholic binges extraordinare, phobias, and so on and on. Today I weigh 175 lbs, am in near perfect health, never get sick, with total remission of all mental disease and am off of medications permanently! I follow the diet to the letter and vouch to its efficacy 100%.
If I eat some potatoes, corn, wheat or most bovine cheeses with the B antigen, the results are invariably severe and dramatic with depression, paranoia and severe joint pains following for up to 8 hours of agony. However, the vast majority of type O's do not have a damaged liver from harsh medications as I do and thus do not have such severe reactions to foods as I do. Moreover, my immune system is over reactive due to years of aggravation from medications and a carbohydrate diet and is in a near permanent frenzy like a disturbed wasp nest. I take the herbs recommended by D'Adamo and they work absolutely effectively like clock work, calming my immune system down enough to let me even eat some carbs w/out the extreme pains in my joints. And the herbs sooth my digestive tract like ice on a burn.
I could go on and on with all the life long ailments that left me in the past 3 years, but I will suffice to say that all my diseases are absolutely common for my blood type and were cured point for point as fast as I could quit eating corn, wheat, potatoes and cheese. I lost 10 lbs. a month eating my fill every meal and without exercise. A tip in D'Adamo's book that helped alot to speed up my metabolism was to drink liquids before eating and not during or after so as to not dilute stomach acid, and to never never mix carbs and animal proteins in one meal. This tip is important for people looking to lose weight!
So be honest with your body, listen to it speak and you will surely come to learn it knows far more than you do about health! Long live D'Adamo and God bless him! Peace and health to you.

Summary: I Use It--I Feel Better!
Review: This book makes the most sense, why some people feel good on a particular food regimen and others feel awful, why some lose weight and others don't. I am an O and my husband is an A. I can finally cook in a way that makes sense for both of us, and we both feel so much better! The sections on disease by type was an eye-opener, makes the case for eating correctly and explains why some of our respective families had the health problems they did, considering the way they were brought up the the way they ate. I wish all doctors would read this book!

Summary: Comical if it weren't so dangerous
Review: This book came recommended to me, and I really wanted it to be a good book, because I love the person who suggested it! However, it is not based on anything that I've studied from mainstream nutrition, nor respected holistic nutrition. Frankly, it falls in the face of good common sense! Also, the diets for the blood types are so limited, I have to wonder at how balanced they are. Of course, I can see how someone would lose weight keeping with their individual plans, because the selections are pretty limited, and not always practical. Snails? Well, I've had them, and they are okay, but expensive and hard to find!
To be fair, I did find some of it mildly interesting, but I really don't suggest it. I think Amazon carries a lot more books that really do promise good health and even weight loss. How about The Vegetarian Way by Virginia Messina, MPH, RD and Mark Messina, PHD? I guarantee it is a lot more user friendly and doable!
No, save your money. If you are just plain curious to see what Eat Right For Your Type is about, check it out of the library. You'll get your money's worth there.

Summary: It all makes it so much clearer!!!
Review: Although I haven't yet started my ER4YT eating patterns yet, after reading the book I now understand WHY my mothers diets weren't working for me. She's a Type A and I'm a Type O, so she needs carbs, I need protein. Loading my system with lots of wheat based products for fibre and very little protein actually damaged my system, as now I'm hypoglycemic. I beleive that after a few weeks following my Type O program, this problem will start to get better, and I won't feel aweful by loading up on a great big steak for lunch every now and then!

Your blood carries nutrients to your body, so it makes perfect sense for the chemistry of different foods to react differently to the chemistry in your blood.

I'm now really excited about starting my new dietry habits, I can't wait to see what it means to have a truely healthy system.

If you've tried EVERYTHING ELSE and it's getting you nowhere... you GOTTA get this book!

Summary: This book makes sense.
Review: I read this book and also read the "Atkin's" book. This book suggests that since I'm Type 0 that I need to eat a lot like what the Atkin's book suggests, just a bit modified. It makes sense to me. There are testimonials in the book too. The review of this book by "desertflowers4" on October 13th is contradictory; he/she states that the book is bad, yet he/she did well on the Atkin's diet...well, duh....if he/she is Type O then that is the diet that is recommended; high protein, low carb. Perhaps he/she missed that.

Summary: Magic
Review: Hello. This book gives me the type of feeling I get when I watch "Street Magic" on TLC. I'm Awed. Incidentally, I am a BRUTAL reviewer. If I smell a quack or a fraud, I go for the jugular, (to save someone time and money). D'Adamo knows his stuff. Here's the lowdown: I am an O+ blood type. Recently I had serious health problems. I saw a lot of doctors and did a lot of research, and it turned out to be Candidiasis and serious food allergies. I took a test called ELISA/ACT to find out what stuff I'm allergic to. Now, when you develop food allergies and intollerances, the first things your body starts rejecting are: 1. The stuff you never should have eaten, that your body could somewhat put-up with before, when you were younger and stronger. and 2. The stuff you ate on a very regular basis during the period of increased immune response (brought on by Candida). You want to know something? About 90% of the stuff I can't tolerate is on D'Adamo's Avoid List. DAMN IT! Magic. (The other allergies are to some stuff I ate EVERY DAY, which is normal). So my particular case helps prove him right. You want to know what else? As a child I was a very finicky eater. I loved certain foods, and I hated others. Most of the ones I hated as a kid are on his Avoid List. DAMN IT! Magic again. How does he do that? Do yourself a favor and A) Get this book. B) Get a gluten intollerance test if you are an O+ (gluten is in wheat, oats, etc...). C) Get the ELISA/ACT test (very expensive, but your health is worth more than that patio furniture you want). Here's food for thought: Most Americans are O+. Wheat is a HUGE staple here. Most O+ people are intollerant to wheat to some extent (which increases as you grow older). Some people are FLAT OUT allergic to it. Some people get different levels of A.D.D. from it. Some people are AUTISTIC because of it. Get that GLUTEN intollerance test PRONTO (and you might say good-bye to the inexplicable moodyness and lethargy you get after eating).
Good luck in your search for better health!

Summary: Good concepts but listen to your own body
Review: When my natural health practioner recommened ER4YT, I really got into it for a couple of months but didn't really notice much of a difference in my weight or well-being. Recently, I visited a true naturopathic doctor (there is a difference - about four years of medical school's worth) and had testing for food allergies. Turns out several the highly recommended foods for my blood type are food that cause low-grade reactions (bloating, flatulence, lethargy)for me. No wonder it didn't work.

Bottom-line: Some good information on the body's ability to digest different things but still too much of a blanket approach given the individuality of each human being.

Summary: Not for the average person
Review: This book is poorly written and the shopping list is hard to fill in a small town. I am not driving 90 miles to go grocery shopping. The diet probably works, but if you can't get through the book to find out how to diet it won't work. I did the Atkin's diet and lost 30 lbs in just over a month and have kept the weight off for over a year. My blood type is O and the low carb/high protien diet is the one for me. I thought I would try the other diets for the other family members. My suggestion is to try the library first and see if it is a book you can use. I have wasted my money!

Summary: No more chicken!
Review: I lost 65 pounds okay??

I'm a Type B. Once I cut the beef out of my diet, and the wheat, and felt freed from feeling I had to eat chicken, which I suppose I intuitively can't stand though it's the diet-cure all, I had so much more energy. I also understood why a bowl of pasta just knocks me out. No carbohydrate loading for me if it contains wheat! The weight didn't exactly fall off. It took a lot of work, particularly hunting down places that served turkey and lamb, but they're out there, and it was sure worth it. The weight loss was great, but the way it made me feel was the real payoff. I no longer felt sleepy, my joints didn't ache, I look (so I'm told) and feel years younger. This prompts me to exercise more and take better care of myself, which takes energy after all.

The theory? For one thing, it's quite based in scientific data. Read all about it. For another, if you have an inquiring mind, you have to wonder why there are just the few blood types we have when there are so many people.

The theory is fascinating. The diet is super. It's a fantastic book that can, I hate to say it, yes, folks, change your life. It sure did for me.

It's especially important if you're a parent. My son needs, and can tolerate, lots of beef and now I know why. When they're little, children can't speak for themselves, and so we either feed them what we're told to, which is the pediatrician's prescribed diet for everyone -- when everyone isn't alike -- or what we ourselves like. Either way it doesn't speak to the individuality of the child, or necessarily give him the nutrition he needs. I'm a coach (personal, not sports) and I recommend this book to my clients -- and everyone else. I'm kind of a walking advertisement for it.
