Summary: Eat Right 4 Your Type by Peter J. D'Adamo
Review: I bought this book thinking it was scientifically accurate only to be told by my naturopath/homeopath who has a bachelor of health science degree that he has read this book from cover to cover and that this book has no basis in fact, i am confused who
do these writers think they are misleading the public just to make a dollar.
For example he says that B bloodgroups should not eat wheat if they want to lose weight and to eat spelt ar rice bread instead,
well i did this but because these are carbohydrates as well they
had the same effect on not being able to lose weight, he also says we should eat meat but meat gives me hives on my face and produces an acid state in the body and to anyone who has cancer which i don't, it is the worst thing you can eat as the body needs to have alkaline and not acid producing foods.
Will somebody wright a book based on fact please! .

Summary: Intriguing concept but impractical for the average person.
Review: After reading so many positive reviews here, I borrowed this book from my library. Dr. D'Adamo definitely makes a compelling case for his theory; the reported results are amazing. However, I believe that the average person would find it nearly impossible to learn to follow the diet for their type. For example, I'm AB, and it would be extremely convenient for me to avoid such everyday foods as chicken, corn, ketchup, and wheat products while replacing them with hard-to-find alternatives such as rye flour. I'm impressed that ANYONE is able to follow this diet; I can only conclude that those who do so are prepared to make major life changes that I'm unwilling/unable to make. In particular, I believe it would be extremely difficult to implement this diet if you live with someone of a different blood type. Dr. D'Amado maintains that he and his wife manage okay, but remember that he has been eating this way since childhood--asking the average couple to alter their diet after years of eating differently seems near-impossible. All that being said, I would love to try the diet, and I wish I could have someone cook for me for a few weeks so that I could determine if there are any personal benefits. Assuming this will never happen, though, I probably will never be able to try the diet and thus never be able to evaluate it for myself, and I believe the typical person is likely to have my same reaction. I can only see this diet being truly useful for those who have suffered years of medical problems and are ready to do ANYTHING to feel better, even something as drastic as Dr. D'Adamo's plan.

Summary: I fell for it at first
Review: then I read one line that just kept resounding in my mind. The line stated that if I followed the diet for my blood type I would have to take a supplement to get enough calcium. If this is the perfect diet for my type then why doesn't it have enough calcium for my body? It just doesn't compute.

Summary: The truth is hard to take
Review: I was a big skeptic about some of the things Dr. D'Adamo made regarding my diet, however, after trying some of it, I came to realize he is right. For me, a Type A, Wheat has great negative effects on the body. It has been difficult to find alternatives but the difference in my Asthma is astounding. I am convinced that any Type A with Sinus or Asthma problems needs to stay away from Wheat. I would have continued to have problems if it were not for his advice. I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about feeling great.

Summary: A fad diet just as likely to work as any other
Review: A few things to consider, for those interested in what they've heard about this book:

1. All blood types evolved millions of years ago. Agriculture began about 10,000 years ago all around the world. So, we were all hunters/gatherers once, and then we all became farmers.

2. Lectins are present in most foods, they don't survive cooking and digestion, and there is no evidence they can 'agglutinate' blood in the body. If they did, you wouldn't 'feel bad' - you'd feel dead when your extremely fine capillaries were blocked.

3. "ND" stands for Dr. of Naturopathy. Compare the training to MD, or PhD.

Judging from the other reviews, it apparently doesn't matter how much reality might differ from the claims made in this book. We're told this isn't for 'scientific review', it's for 'the people'. No one is allowed to review it who hasn't tried it, and everyone gushes over how 'scientific' it sounds. Unfortunately, unlike Amazon.com, science doesn't rely on peoples opinions. The 'method' keeps real scientists honest, whether they like it or not. D'Adamo and those like him avoid it, and even attack it, for very clear reasons.

Fortunately, you'll lose weight on this plan anyway, because ALL of the diets recommend eating less, eating healthier, and getting more exercise. Except for the O's, who are encouraged to get heart disease.

Save your money. Follow the 'nutrition pyramid' and get more exercise.

Summary: Puzzled About the Theory
Review: I bought this book when it first came out based on on-line advise that I read on a Zone diet message board. Having reached a dieting plateau, I was interested in discovering what else I could do in order to reach my goal of a healthy weight while still feeling good.
More recently, I saw an alternative medicine physician who vehemently advocated a combination of the Zone portions and meal frequencies with the ER4YT philosophy. As a type A, I supposedly could easily and according to the book should, become a vegetarian. Red meat for me, is taboo as are wheat products and all manner of other supposedly healthy foods given thumbs up by other health guru standards. For instance, growing up on Long Island, I always enjoyed fresh flounder and clam chowder---well, forget it---these foods are to be avoided on ER4YT for blood type A. D'Adamo instructs type As to eat more tofu and soy--and this seems to correspond to current traditional medical and health trends. However, while some things make sense, other things do not; I find that overall I am puzzled as to why some foods aggitate the system and others do not.
While D'Adamo's history of blood types is facinating, I wonder just how valid it all is in terms of his actual research premise. If his premise on lectins and agglutination is valid, why doesn't someone from traditional medicine research its claims and comment on it? Should I acquiesce to the usual conspiracy theory that warring schools of thought fight dirty and neither should be accepted as fonts of actual truth?
Bottom line: for the virgin dabbling in current cult dietary best-sellers, this diet will be difficult to follow--there are just too many rules and regulations. For those who have already tried alternative grains and vegetable based proteins, the road will be a little easier, but still rocky until all the rules are commited to memory. D'Adamo doesn't really get into portions, if he does, forgive my relapse in memory. If you follow the guidelines regarding portion size and meal frequency as outlined by Barry Sears and the Zone, you should lose weight. If not, hormones and how they affect hunger, health and weight gain are not touched upon in this book and I believe should be.

I also question D'Adamo's premise regarding the different exercise that should be done by the varying blood types. What is this based upon? In his lifetime, how has D'Adamo proved that lighter exercise like yoga and tai chi is better for Type As?

On the positive side, a friend related a situation of an acquaintance who was tired and had digestive problems. She recommended D'Adamo's book---after eliminating the foods on the AVOID list for her blood type, this person made a complete 180 turnaround; she felt better and her digestive problems ended, astounding her medical doctors.

If it works---great---but I feel as if I need more information backing up D'Adamo's premise. If any experts have any, I'd love to hear it.

Summary: Accurate in some ways, unrealistic in many others
Review: I did, indeed, find it fascinating that the foods my body utilizes best were categorized as recommended for my blood type. I was also pleased to see that many of the foods I avoid were listed as not being beneficial. So, this provided some motivation for trying the diet.

But then it had to be put into practice.

Many of the foods, which D'Adamo recommended as replacements for staples in the American diet, were extremely hard to come by and very expensive. Being the only person on this diet in my household, many of the foods (Being organic and not preserved), went bad before I could eat them all.

Then there were the moments when I would go out to eat - you know, man being a social beast, desiring the joy of cameraderie and the breaking of bread. Heaven forbid! There was neither anything to eat at a Mexican restaurant, nor at an Italian restaurant. All I could consume were plain corn tortillas and salads. Oh yes, and iced tea. Harrumph.

I was able to do better with a Japanese restaurant. And with a Chinese one... except that I despise Chinese food.

So... if one follows this diet to the letter, one will never experience variety again... or, perhaps, simply never have dinner out again.

While I think the diets Dr. D'Adamo proposes are certainly useful and beneficial as general guidelines, the regime is far from practical. Speaking as a former diet technician, I would assert that the majority of individuals that adhere strictly to this diet will eventually become non-compliant due to inconvenience and lack of variety.

Summary: Very Interesting
Review: This book is interesting. Though it is hard to remember what foods your blood type should eat. This book does make sense. I am going to try it full force to see if I feel as good as the book says.

Summary: Finally, a program that makes sense on all levels
Review: I've tried them all: from fanatic vegetarianism for ten years to The Zone. Nothing worked for me, until I discovered Dr. D'Adamo. It makes sense to me that we are biochemically individual--his is the only book that considers that reality and has developed a precise science around it. But the proof is in my results: I am a blood-type O, and after two years living this diet, I've never felt, looked, or performed better. I now feel balanced on all levels: mental clarity, physical stamina and performance, and even spirituality. I take his blood-type specific products, and they are superb. There's no going back! His newest book, Live Right 4 Your Type even further enhances the science. You owe it to yourself to try this program.

Summary: Bah Humbug!!!! A Bunch Of [Trash].... Boy Was I Wrong!!!!
Review: I never finished a book in my life, and as far as I was concerned weight loss could ONLY be achieved by plenty of sweat and self dicipline. Well, after loosing 50 pounds and rejuvinating my interest in playing sports, not only am I a believer!!! I'm the world's biggest endorser of "Eat Right 4 Your Type".
