Rating: Summary: The jury is still out in my case. Review: I became interested in this book after my sister pointed it out to me. Although the reasons behind the absorption of foods due to the reaction produced by the various bood types is listed as being due to the lectins in the foods themselves seems reasonable, I have not carried out any research to check this out. To make sure, you would have to make a comprehensive research effort in the medical literature rather than relying on naturopathic research. If these results are based on sound biochemistry then I would have no trouble believing them.Instead I chose to try out the type A diet recommended for me. Since none of these foods are in fact deleterious I thought there would be no problem. I have been following the diet now for about a week and have certainly not noticed any weight loss. However, like one of the reviewers I noticed it reduced gas, improved digestion and got rid of previously eaten fatty foods. Apart from the recommendations, I noticed before I knew of the diet, I had problems digesting dairy products such as milk and especially cheese. Similarly, red meat would often make me lethargic. In a matter of a few days I did feel more energetic but other problems arose such as neck discomfort. This may be due to the release of toxins as noted in the book or else due to some nutrient not in the diet. I propose to try the diet for 2 weeks to see if it makes any difference in weight loss, energy gain or other improvements. As regards the exercise schedule for type A's this appears a little confusing, although I agree with his note on the tension level of my type his insistence on only doing low level exercise doesn't work for me. I enjoy high intensity exercise such as playing soccer which requires great energy at all times. Similarly, I have never felt better than when I was very fit from training with a club. I tend to think this stress/tension arises more from the mind than the body. As regards the actual book itself it is very well written, greatly simplified for the average reader no matter his/her education. This has certain advantages and some drawbacks. It makes the program easy to follow but at the same time gives the impression of talking to simpletons. The diets and the list of foods recommended for each blood group are very easy to follow and the tables listing the amounts of food to use are also easy to read and follow. The whole set up makes it considerably easier to use than standard diet charts which confuse you with information such as calories which noone can relate to. The jury is still out in my case. Fascinating nonetheless.
Rating: Summary: Wish is wasn't true Review: I've tried to find fault with this diet since being on it for a few months now, but I have to say its hard to shoot down once having gone the distance. I DO feel better in every way. My eating habits have stabilized, I eat less but feel more satiated then I did a year ago when I was eating twice as much. It is a drastic change in the way I was eating before, which would've been considered very healthy by most people. Being physically active, and having young children to keep me on my toes, I am re-learning ways to use non-wheat products and foods I was intially not fond of. I've wanted to dismiss this book, if only to go back to the convience of wheat and low meat consumption. However, after doing this diet for a little while, it is getting easier to use once unfamilar grains such as spelt (which tastes and acts very much like wheat), and other grain flours which work just as well as wheat. There are too many truths in my recommended blood type diet to argue with. Thorough previous experience, I have to honestly admit that as a type O, I do not do well on a plant based diet (it starves me), nor have I gained weight by eating red meat, but have rather maintained an ideal weight simply by avoiding wheat which causes type O's to increase fat. If you follow this diet, you will easily maintain a ideal weight and feel great for it, without effort other then unconditioning your corrupted system. To anyone who is skeptical, I say try it! You will find that you can't argue with the positive results you will have, noticably so, if you adhere to this diet for at least 3 months. Even a shift to using this diet 60% of the time will be of great benefit. I am at about 75% right now, utilizing more of the main aspects which are noted as highly beneficial and avoiding most of those that are not.
Rating: Summary: ABO bloodtypes have been around for 13 million years Review: The whole premise that these different bloodtypes evolved over the last few tens of thousands of years in response to different human diets is incorrect. ABO blood groups are also found in our primate cousins (chimps, baboons, gorillas) meaning they did NOT evolve recently. I don't doubt that many people have had real results with this diet. Most healthy (or lo-cal) diets will have good to excellent results in the short to medium term. To try to link to blood types though is incorrect, and it's sad that the public could 'eat up' this idea to enthusiatically. Like astrology, it's pseudo-science. Blood types don't signifiganly effect the diets we should eat any more that the movement of the planets effect our personalities or destinies.
Rating: Summary: Conflicting information Review: I am rather a scientific person by nature and at first I thought the author had hit upon a new scientific formula for maintaining a healthy body. Then I discovered conflicting information and this gave me the impression that the book was just a cut and paste job and not truly edited for Type A blood people. I am referring to the "avoid wheat germ" in one section verses the "wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E" in the vitamin section.
Rating: Summary: more research/facts needed, other diets helpful as well Review: I got this book as well as a few other books on recommendation on a group list that I was on. Since then, I have heard mixed reviews about this book. Some poeple claiming it has helped them enormously, while other claim that other diets have done (such as Atkins) has just done as much for them (regardless of their blood type, even type O). While I won't discount the author's theory about food antigens (which I suspect might have some truth to it), this approach to diet isn't wholistic, imo. There are many other factors that contribute as to which food is good for you than how easily it is abosorbed and processed by your body. From my own personal experience, other nutricional diets (for my body at least) tends to be more helpful than the one that is recommended by the author. Apparrently, I suspect that some other people might be more sensitive to antigens and sugar blood type absorption than other people. As to why this might be the case (if it is the case), should be invested. More research needs to be done, and the author needs to take a more wholistic approach to his diet - such as including the health risks of eating too many carbohydrates as well as the health risks of microwaving your food, dairy products, etc. At best, I suspect his theory is just one peice of the puzzle necessary for understanding the interaction of food for humans, and at worst, the author just might be lucky at getting good results by mimicking other diets that happen to be healthy as well (atkins, vegetarian, etc).
Rating: Summary: How many people giving 5-stars are type As? Review: I happen to be a type A and the diet recommended in this book is actually fairly decent, for Type As that is. A vegetarian diet is quite healthy and a vegan one is even better. Avoiding meat and dairy is very good for you...The other 'avoids' listed didn't make sense. I suggest to anyone interested in getting healthy DO NOT buy this book, don't even bother getting it from the library, adopt a vegetarian (or vegan) diet, if you have a weight problem any of the McDougall Program books will help, and to try Pilates or power yoga 3 times a week in addition to walking 5 or more times a week. You will get leaner, stronger, and you'll have more energy. Just be sure to vary your diet, something Eat Right For Your Type won't let you do, and if you go vegan take a B12 supplement. I've been walking 5 times a week for over a year, I went vegan 6 months ago, and I started Pilates 3 months ago. In the 3 months I was vegan before I started Pilates I lost 20 pounds, and since I started Pilates I've lost another 25 and my energy has sky-rocketed. I have to say again DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. There are hundreds of better, simpler, and more logical ways to become healthy, esppecially for Type Os. If you donate blood, you save one life. If you go vegetarian, you save 83.

Rating: Summary: I am not a believer. Review: I tried to follow the diet prescribed in this book for my blood type, thinking it will make me feel better and that I will lose weight. I did neither. Also, the were so many foods to "avoid" that I felt like I would have been better served by a "fasting" diet. Check the book out at the library and see if it works before investing money. It may not be worth it.
Rating: Summary: What A Way To Make Money Review: This books shows the way to make money from [people], even in a down economy. So I am now hard at work writing some diet books that tell you how you should eat based on your eye color, your hair color, and the number of freckles you have. I'm sure that I can find a few people to post rave reviews of my work here and probably quite a few people for whom my ideas will "work" and who, especially, won't care that none of it is based in facts or reason! What a concept!
Rating: Summary: It worked for my wife and I. Review: A naturopathic doctor recommended this to us. My wife tried it and this summer we got less exercise than usual due to many factors and she dropped 17 pounds in less than 3 months, without trying. I was on the diet about 60% and dropped four pounds again with less exercise than usual and little concern for calories. My stomach acid reflux quit, except for once when I ate pizza several days that week and had other atrocious dietary abominations one right after the other. I'm reasonably sure this is the answer to many health problems. Good luck as you try this.
