Summary: His critics won't take the time to understand its depth
Review: I've read a lot of reviews of this book and almost all of them just fall back on the "well, if it worked, we'd of known about it by now" -wrong! This guy pulled up a lot of very obscure scientific references to prove a basic point: You don't have a blood type just to complicate getting a transfusion! If only the pundits would LOOK at the amount of material he uses to prove his point, no one would dispute the findings. For the rest of us, we just go on intuition: Something about the premise of the theory just makes sense. Wonderfully written. My wife (type O) has followed the basic program for 8 weeks and has had a total remission in her psoriasis, something 4 years of prednisone and 10 years of vegetarianism did nothing for.

Summary: This is NOTa fad diet. Be objective when you read this book
Review: I am over 50, female and my doctor says I am healthy. Then why did I feel so lousy for so long? Headaches, contiuous weight gain, no energy, listless? I read this book and have been eating according to my blood type for about 9 mos. I have never felt better and lost about 30 lbs without even trying. The medical world of doctors have a lot to learn about nutrition. We are NOT all the same and should not all be on low fat, high carbo diets. Fat and protein are best for me and without this book, I would never have seen the light!. I am very grateful to Peter D'Adamo. My health is perfect! no high blood pressure, etc. My own doctor now believes there is some truth to blood type and health.

Summary: Buy The Book! Eat The Right Food! Be Healthy!
Review: This book WORKS! In the first week all of my immune related problems (Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue and Insomnia, budding Psoriasis, Depression and Mood Swings) were mitigated to the point that I actually felt like normal people must! To me it felt like being high, it was so good.

I have been following the "Paleolithic Diet" and"Native Nutrition" lines of research for over a decade now. But how do you eat the food of your ancestors if you're an American Mutt? Live on Oatmeal, Kelp, and raw Buffalo? Dr. D'Adamo's bookbrings it all into perspective. I am a Type O and most of the foods on his "Good" list for my type are the things I crave. Conversely, most of the things on his "Avoid" list for my type are the things I'll eat if you hold a gun to my head! My appetite at least agrees with him! I am on my third week and my family is about ready to give up and join me. You can't argue with visible success.

The good Dr. also maintains a very helpful website where you can get a lot of information - but you really need the book to get the details.

Summary: Scientific, Common-Sense, Flexible, Easy to Use
Review: I was interested in this book immediately upon reading the title. After having worked in a hospital blood lab, the vital importance of not mixing blood types for patients was impressed on me by all of the technicians working in the blood bank. Even the regular guy or gal on the street has watched enough medical or news shows on TV to realize the importance of correct blood typing. You can die if it gets mixed up.

What this book showed me was that a similiar, although at a much lower level, effect can happen from eating foods that have blood type antigens to your blood type.

It's the accumulation of these antigens over time which, to me at least, is frightening. After all, there is only so much room in the body for storage of sludge that cannot be moved, and if you are already ill, or immune suppressed, I can only assume that this process of acuumulation would happen faster.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense to me not to put into my body that which will glue it up and eventually cause more problems than it is worth to eat as I did before this book.

Besides, I have watched my body lose weight and tone up, and I am not even trying! I am a very inactive person. I hate exercise with a passion! Yet it is still happening. And I don't have the stomach and intestine problems that I have experienced since I was 14 years old.

The really great thing is that the author tells you what you can eat, but does not say "you must eat." Therefore, lactose intolerant indivuals, for instance, can eat eggs or fermented dairy (such as yogurt, in which the milk sugar has changed into a digestible form)

It is scientific, common sense, flexible and easy to use. Simply don't buy or use foods on the avoid list and you are in business.

Summary: Type O+ Considers This a Miracle
Review: On Dec. 31 I consulted a new doctor for painful and debilitating fibromyalgia, expecting him to recommend physical therapy or acupuncture. I was really surprised when he recommended that I eliminate wheat from my diet, read ER4YT and try the recommendations. (By the way, he is also an O with fibromyalgia and follows this eating plan.) Before Christmas, I couldn't walk the length of the shopping mall without excruciating back spasms. Within a week of eliminating wheat, I felt myself standing up straighter, had less pain overall and much more energy. I started incorporating more of the recommended foods and eliminating more of the foods to avoid, realizing that for the last few years I've been eating lots of pasta and lentils (no-nos for Os) thinking they were healthy! Last week I walked the length of the mall and back without stopping to sit down or rest - and didn't hurt. My digestion has improved, my skin has improved, I'm sleeping better, and in four weeks I lost 7 pounds - without even trying. I'm also a singer, and my teacher is still amazed at the sudden and continuing changes in my voice. For the first time in years the resonance cavities are clear. My breath is not constricted. I realize this is something of a departure from conventional wisdom about nutrition - but it works.

Summary: Excellent advice for allergy sufferers
Review: I have been desperately ill for 2 years due to food allergies, by following the recommendations in this book, which by the way, is in an easy to read and follow format, I am recovering strength, health, energy and outlook. Well worth the read even if you are not poisoned by chemicals yet!

Summary: A fad diet with little factual scientific basis
Review: This book came into my family over Christmas and has since taken my fathers eating habits hostage. The author has constructed a very detailed nutritional plan based on a couple facts: there are corellations between ethnicity and blood type and that blood types are defined by a response to antigens which, in a few rare cases (there are only a couple in his bibliography), can respond to a class of protiens in foods. In fact, blood type anigens are quite specific, defined by only a few genes and I find the idea that they respond in subtle ways to a wide variety of lectins (a class of protien) is highly improbable. I would add that the idea that eating in the manner of our ancestors, while intuitively appealing, neglects the fact that, throughout our evolutionary history until the last few generations, life expectancies hovered in the 30s. Ancestral diets may have had disasterous consequences for health in middle and old age that were simply never experienced and adjusted for. The author has built this theory based almost soley on his own research, if we are to assume his bibiography is complete. We have no way to judge the methods or extent of his research since he has not published it, again according to his bibliography. I would not play around with my nutrition based on the assertions of this man.

Summary: AMAZING REVELATIONS: WHY ALL DIETS DON'T WORK FOR EVERYONE!
Review: My wife and I were so happy to find this book! We are reading it and the book is great, and right on target! We were amazed to find out Dr. D'Adamo and his father had done research on diets for different blood types. This book explains so well why all diets can't work for everyone. We also read "Protein Power". That diet worked great for me, until I started eating a low carbohydrate whole wheat tortilla at each meal, for the fiber content. Dr. D'Adamo explains in detail why a person with O type blood should not eat whole wheat! Who knew? The book lists all kinds of food that are benefitial for persons with certain blood types, and the foods to avoid. Dr. D'Adamo explains in detail the history of each type, and why we need to watch what we eat for our good health. We would definately recommend this book to all who have had trouble loosing weight, or who think they may have health problems because of the food they are eating.

Summary: Highly entertaining and educational!
Review: I normally don't even glance at a book if it has the word 'diet' anywhere in the title, but this theory really intrigued me! A great deal of research obviously went into Dr. D'Adamo's work, and I found it not only sensible, but incredibly fascinating. While not every guideline in the author's theories worked for me, the majority of his suggestions for dietary changes made a significant difference. His ideas make a lot of sense, and I would encourage anyone looking to improve their health to give it a try. Wonderful reading from cover to cover!

Summary: It All Makes Sense - It Deserves A Read, Not Just A Skim!
Review: I am an O+ blood type. Eat Right 4 Your Type was recommended to me by my doctor, because of sinus, allergy and uppper respiratory conditions. At first, before reading the book, he told me to stay away from dairy, pork, corn, potatos and WHEAT! OH BOY! Is he for real?! After all, wheat is found in everything! Reluctantly, I bought the book and read it and followed the O TYPE diet for 2 weeks. What a change! My energy level was increased, my ADD was better, and so was my hypoglycemia! I was also intrigued by the correlation to the foods mentioned in the Bible. Most of what I should eat and should not eat were also stated as such in the Bible. Because of my hectic schedule, though, I find it difficult to maintain this diet, especially not having wheat products. Fast food is so much more convenient, but loaded with no-nos. My twin sister has been successful at losing weight and increasing her energy level with the diet. A GREAT BOOK - especially if you have will power! - Karen M.
