Rating: Summary: This book is a God send Review: I highly recommend this book. It is not so much a diet plan as a road map. Dr. D'Adamo gives simple-to-follow directions for taking charge of your own health by starting with the fuel you are putting into your body. Buy this book, follow it, and prepare to clear out your medicine cabinet! I have been on the "O" plan for 1 month and I feel better than I have in years...
Rating: Summary: His critics are often blinded by their own bias. Review: Just like the good doctor says:TRUTH PASSES THROUGH THREE STAGES. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third it is accepted as being self-evident. At least the prior reviewer got to step two. Personally, as a medical technologist who has blood typed 100's of people, I find nothing incorrect or untruthful in his explanation of ABO blood type. Frankly, I learned quite a bit more than I previously new. That it sounds like a fad diet -true, but he cannot help that. However to call it a fad diet is deny what amounts to a a slew of supporting scientific references that he includes in the book. I frankly don't care; my lifelong psoriasis cleared up, that's all I know. END
Rating: Summary: More fluff than substance Review: Like many books of this type it is redundant -- the same facts appear in table, text, and recipe formats. The basic premise of ABO blood-type-specific diets is novel and sounds scientific; however, in my opinion, substantiation of that premise is unconvincing. Arguments depend more on subjective observation than experimental methodology. At best the hypothesis could have been presented effectively in less than 50 pages.
Rating: Summary: clear, consise, easy to read and interesting. Review: This book is based on years of research. I like the fact that the author tells you when his information is based soley on his experience. Very informative. Although the subject matter may sound a bit dry to some, it is written so well that one does not want to put it down. Also, a wonderful reference book. Jennifer Cecere c3187@sinclair.net
Rating: Summary: Utter nonsense Review: I knew this book was a load of bull when I looked at the list of foods to avoid and foods recommended for my blood type (A+). At one time in my life, in a misguided effort to reduce below the weight Nature intended me to be, I tried all the current fad diets, and the high-carb, low-protein diet was a disaster: I felt weak all the time and had no energy. (To be fair, the high-protein, no-carb diet was just as bad!) I concluded, finally, that I was healthiest when I ate a balanced diet, exercised regularly, and accepted the shape that I was born with. But nobody wants to believe that: we're looking for the "magic pill" that will transform us all into hunks or supermodels, and anyone who writes a book purporting to be that magic pill is almost guaranteed to have a best-seller. As for all the readers who think this book is wonderful, my years of dieting experience have led me to the following conclusions: (1) Any fad diet will work for anyone for a while. (2) Any fad diet will work permanently for SOME people. (3) No fad diet will work permanently for everyone. I'd like to talk to those enthusiasts 5 years from now, and see how many of them are still following the "blood type" diet and how well it's working; my guess would be about 5% for both questions.
Rating: Summary: Finally, a natural medicince book whose suggestions really w Review: Very well written given the complex topic - very interesting, especially the first few chapters. Based on good science - the Theory of Natural Selection. Details how intricate and significant our interaction with the environment is at our most intimate level - eating. Gives new and quantifiable meaning to the age old saying "you are what you eat".
Rating: Summary: This book can help everyone. Review: After reading the book in May, I started the "diet" immediately. As of this writing I have lost approximately 20 lbs., have had an increase in energy, decrease in allergy symptoms, and feel better than I have in years. Anyone looking to improve they way they feel, without having to go through the torture of fad diets, would do well to read the book and give it a try.
Rating: Summary: GOOD INFO...DIET WORKS Review: I READ THE BOOK...AND BECAME A PATIENT OF DR. D'ADAMO'S AFTER HEARING HIM ON THE RADIO. GREAT BOOK, AND THE DIET WORKS W/0 STARVING YOURSELF. THE HOME BLOOD TYPING KIT SOLD THROUGH THE BOOK GAVE THE CORRECT RESULTS FOR ME (TEST WAS CONFIRMED IN HIS OFFICE ON MY 1ST VISIT.
Rating: Summary: Good diet plan with evidence for why it works Review: I've always been skeptical of fad diets, especially since I come from a scientific background. However, Dr. D'Adamo not only carefully explains the blood type antigen/antibody reaction to different food types, he also goes into great detail about why individual types of food are good or bad. There's no way I would've been able to give up wheat and dairy products (I'm type O) w/out such compelling Biological evidence about how they effect my digestion and overall health. And even if his claims are not 100% correct (there's very little doubt in my mind), I'm still eating healthier, having fewer digestive upsets and feeling better about myself in general since adhering to his regimen.
Rating: Summary: The book truly works Review: I originally picked up the book while waiting for someone at a bookstore. What I found inside was so well thought out and so common sensical, that I immediately purchased it. I am blood type A, so I had the hardest diet adjustment to make, but in the 4 weeks since doing so, I have lost 15 pounds and have never felt more rested, energetic or happy. It has worked for me and I know it would work for anyone truly interested in a better life. The principles are easy to understand and follow. It's well worth the investment of self.
