Summary: Not sure about this one...from an AB perspective
Review: No, I will admit, I have not done the diet. I liked the basis behind it, but it seems a bit wierd after reading the book. I have the "Eating right 4 your baby" version since I am still nursing my 4 months old. Here are a few things I didn't like just from reading it:
I am AB blood type.

1) Under AB blood type it says to avoid black eyed peas and milk. Then under the nursing section it also says A,B, and AB's should avoid cow's milk and cheese(can cause colic-I already had to cut it out anyway). Then it lists under breast-feeding "power foods" that AB's should eat black eyed peas(multiple times) and cow's milk! How does that add up?

2) I read on their site that his father actually started the work and isn't happy about how his son has twisted it.

3) AB's can't eat beef, chicken, shrimp, oysters, bananas, avocado, coconut, oranges, (normal) tea, or just about any other thing you could imagine eating! All I can eat is Turkey, lamb (yuck!) and some wierd fish I have never heard of.

4) My husband is either and A or O type and there is no way we could work an O diet with mine, and very little chance we could swing an A.

I found a ton of places where it would say one thing I could eat, and then come back and say it was highly benificial in another, both times being listed specifically under my blood type. I am also not too impressed with the author not being a "real" doctor.
I suppose I am part of the 5% of the population that can't do this diet. I really don't see raising my daughter this way if she is an AB either. From the small section I read about type O's, I think I could do it, but be wary otherwise.

Summary: Eat Right for your Type
Review: This book gives a new perspective on dieting and exercise by dividing specific recommendations by Blood Type (A, B, AB, O). I think it is an interesting concept and bought the book mainly because I was curious. If you are planning to implement this plan, make sure you read the book with caution and consult your family physician before making any major changes in your lifestyle. However, much of the advice was common sense about good dietary habits and exercise.

Summary: EASY to follow, Simply Miraculous
Review: By now, most people have heard of this book-at least in passing. I have to say a few words about this book that have been, at least in recent reviews, unmentioned. This book began by observation-in other words, true science. It has been tested and retested, and although admittedly there is probably much more to discover in this area, this is a damn good start and definitely enough to go by. I wonder how many people who have written reviews actually READ the book. Some act with skepticism towards the premise-that your blood type is a significant factor in how your body metabolizes food and absorbs nutrients. The book tells the story of our ancestors and how adaptation/evolution caused changes in different types of people and the effects of certain foods-whether they act as poison or medicine. It is loosely based on the most beneficial dietary approach our ancestors could have used. For the people who have a hard time with this approach and/or have not seen results, have a look at your raw food vs cooked food consumption, portions, and your consumption of certain modern substances that are unnatural and hence would not have been available to our ancestors: refined sugars, processed foods, genetically engineered food, hydrogenated oils, etc. I am 99% sure that THIS is the reason people say "What, ME do this??? That's ridiculous!" They are simply unaware of the dangers of these substances are and/or simply unwilling to cut out that bag of doritos. That is their choice to make-along with the choice to be toxic, obese, moody (notice the nasty tone of their reviews), and generally not at optimal health.
There is no one easy answer as to why one human's food is another's poison. As you will read for yourself, there are many variables that comprise the meat of this book. If you want to be lean, energetic, and running in your most optimal mode, buy this book. Then actually READ it. Give it a chance. Start out slowly-begin eliminating the "avoid" foods (the 'poisons'), gradually increase your extremely beneficial foods, and of course eat the neutral foods as well. And SEE for yourself. YES it takes self discipline. But perhaps by cutting down your refined sugar intake you can maintain stable blood sugar levels and chill out about it all. Develop self discipline. Then watch it turn into healthful preference. What can I say-I have seen the evidence-it WORKS if you work at it. Good luck, I truly hope you will buy this book and watch your life change. p.s.-the exercise recommendations are based on sedentary people, and do not discuss strength training, which *everyone* (YES women too!) needs.

Summary: Another food fad fairy tale, full of plot holes
Review: I heard about this book through a chiropractor. After borrowing it from the library, I even ordered my own copy. Before it arrived, though, I started thinking through the premise of the book: that through evolution, each blood type has developed its own distinct food tolerance patterns, and a diet suited for one's particular blood type is the only healthy one.

This theory doesn't hold up, though; and I had only to look in my own home for the proof. According to D'Adamo, my husband and I, both type O, should thrive on the same diet. But what makes my husband healthy--high carbs--makes me fat and lethargic. Gender difference aside, since according to this book that is not the issue, my husband and I should both need and also adversely react to the same lists of foods. But it just isn't so. And the more I considered the evidence right in front of me, the more I realized this is just another trendy grab for the desperate dieter's hard-earned cash.

I returned my ordered copy and moved on. South Beach Diet, anyone?

Summary: What do you mean I can't eat chicken???
Review: I can't offer any feedback as to whether or not this diet works, as I have not yet tried it. I can say that the logic seems to make sense, and the theory is supported by substantial research. The basic idea, that each blood type is unique and therefore requires unique types of nourishment for optimal performance, is a breakthrough discovery if it is indeed true.

The book is well written and conveniently organized so that you can skip significant portions that do not deal with your personal blood type (unless, of course, you want to). And if you are only interested in diet recommendations, you can skip the last section that lists various diseases and ailments and describes how certain blood types are more susceptible than others. Interesting stuff, but I think most people will buy this book to help them craft a healthy diet, not to learn whether they are likely to get breast cancer.

I have to admit that I am a bit skeptical of the recommendations. Give up chicken? No tomatoes? Stop eating wheat? These are the big problem foods for blood type B, and I'm having trouble imagining just how I will avoid them. More importantly, I'm wondering whether I will really feel any healthier. I guess we'll see.

Summary: I CHANGED MY REVIEW OF THIS BOOK
Review: I, a type O of African descent, edited my postive 5 star review of this book because I went ahead and actually DID the diet. And guess what? I gained weight.

The reason I gained weight was so stupidly simple I could have kicked myself for having bought the book (got a refund though.) See, I did exactly what the author said and ate the foods on the "highly beneficial" lists for type O's of my descent in order to lose weight. I ate nothing on the "avoid" list. And then I GAINED WEIGHT. The reason is scientifically plausible though I'm no scientist: Some foods on his "benefical" lists are high in starch.

And if that isn't bad enough, many of the foods in the "neutral" categories which he claims don't help or hurt type O's are high in starch, which causes MANY people to gain weight fast. In conclusion? THE ADVICE IN THIS BOOK [IS BAD].

I'm really tired of all these extremist books. The only thing I know for sure is that high-protein diets do cause weight loss, but I would like to find or create one for myself that allows low-starch veggies and fruits. Okay, back to the planning board!

Summary: Free at Last!
Review: I received this book about the same time I found out I was suffering from a magnesium deficiency (eye tics that lasted more than one hour, arm tics, leg tics). For the last 25 years I have suffered from PMS/PMDD. Needless to say, I was not sleeping well at night either. For the first time in all these years, I no longer have any effects of PMS/PMDD. I have thrown out the medication for it. By simply following Dr. D'Adamo's advice, all that is behind me now. No more "out of control" feelings, irritability or mood swings. I hope more women with PMS explore Dr. D'Adamo's book.

Summary: I Think I Finally Found My Healthy Way Of Eating!
Review: I found out through a test kit from Dr. D'Adamo's website that I'm A positive. I didn't trust his kit so I went to the doc and asked them to do it again. (Sorry, Dr. D'Adamo) Well, I got the same results, and his kit is only $ [money]! I LOVE vegetables and I always had a hard time liking meat. I should have listened to my body, because I tried low carb and gained 25 pounds and PLUS I felt tired and weak on it. The low carb Doc says I should have all this energy..yeah, right. I was exhausted. Since I've been following my A plan, it's only been a few weeks and I had a rash that wouldn't go away, clear up! I was surprised. I have more energy now and I can eat my beloved oatmeal again without guilt that I'm going to die from the carbs [name of another doctor]...well, maybe for O blood types! HA! HA!

Summary: One word: Panacea!!!
Review: There should be a King James version of this book created because it's like a Bible, or Koran, or Book of Mormon. I haven't been sick since I started following this literary masterpiece two years ago. I feel lighter on my feet, more energetic, and my blood work is impecable; I think my LDLs are actually negative now. The only downside to the book and "diet" is that you will likely me mocked by most people to whom you introduce it, especially your co-workers.

Summary: A True Believer
Review: I was loaned this book. According to some of the reviews I had decided against reading it. I was so wrong. This has seriously saved my life. I have lost tremendous amounts of weight. Couldn't eat many foods etc. Developed auto-immune diseases and could not list all of the health problems. Dr. D'Adamo has helped me to recognize my body type to the T in the Type B's. I am following the diet and I feel so much better even after two days. He explains how foods affect you and why they are harming your body. The foods I knew were hurting me and the foods I couldn't recognize were actually put in black and white so I now know how to eat. Thanks to this book I now have a blue print to follow and get my health back. I also ordered my blood typing kit from this book since I didn't know what it was. Call me a Thankful Reader.
