Rating: Summary: It's the only way to go. Review: ER4YT is logical, methodical, scientific, and easy to read. The scientific and anthropological explanations are extremely interesting, and it is so nice to have this information along with the necessary food lists. I really enjoyed the personality and exercise profiles too, and I use the recipies and the medical treatments. This book has a little bit of everything. I can't say enough good things about it, except to say that I have been on the diet ever since I read the book(1 year ago), and since it's worked so well, I expect to be on it for the remainder of my life. I encourage you to read ER4YT and see what you think. You're bound to learn so much.
Rating: Summary: This information saved my life, and it's free Review: Twentyone years ago, my father died from a heart attack. Nine years ago, hoping to avoid that fate, I became a vegetarian. Four years ago, I developed a potentially fatal auto-immune disease called pemphigus (my immune system attacks my skin). Note, at this time, I was eating a primarily organic, whole foods, grain based, vegetarian diet. As close as I came to dying, I thought that had I been eating meat, I'd be sicker. After being hospitalized, given 180mg/day Prednisonal, and released, I spent the next year and a half trying numerous traditional medicine and naturopathic medicine based treatments. These expensive treatments included visits and prescriptions from noteable professors of Chinese Medicine, Aryuveda, traditional Naturopathy @ Portland Naturopathic Clinic, etc. All this time, I stayed vegetarian, all this time I remained on 30-40mg per day of Prednisone. I underwent allergy tests, hair analysis, numerous blood tests. I eventually became a raw foods vegetarian. I got sicker. In short, I was doing everything right, based on numerous scientific studies, and I was getting sicker. Since there is very little research done on Pemphigus, I was forced to read about other autoimmune diseases. A common manifestation of chronic diseases is a phenomenon known as "blood sludge," or erethrocyte aggregation. Simply put, the red blood cells clump together, as if they are stuck together with velcro. It was noted, by one of my doctors, that I too, exhibited this phenomenon. We/He did not know what to do about it. Two months later, I read Eat Right 4 Your Type. Dr. D'Adamo explains why "blood sludge" happens, and explains why it is food choice that causes it to happen. In short, a food that is healthy for one person can be detrimental to another, based on solid chemical reasons. So, it appeared that while I was doing everything right, I was not doing it right for ME! Two months after starting to choose my foods based on his plan, I started going into remission. I did this as a vegetarian. Seeing the positive results of these food choices, and running out of viable protein sources due to food allergies, I reluctantly began to eat meat appropriate for my blood type (O). That was a year ago. I am now in remission, taking no drugs or supplements, and getting healthier every day. In short, I owe my life to Dr. D'Adamo for putting together the numerous pieces of research data into a coherent theory and presenting it to the public in an understandable way. Best of all, it doesn't cost anything. It's available in libraries across the country. You'll probably want to own a copy, though, to have around all the time. I personally bought several copies from Amazon.com and gave them as gifts to the people I love the most. No, I'm not a doctor or anybody famous, but my life is important to me and the people, animals and plants who love me. steve shapiro
Rating: Summary: I've been on the diet 5 months--it's an absolute miracle! Review: I came to this way of eating from an almost-vegetarian "health" diet that almost killed me! This way of eating has turned scary-bad health troubles right around, and I've regained my resilience. I've been relieved of chronic pain and arthritic symptoms, kidney and bladder trouble, skin problems of all kinds, premature aging, hormone imbalance, and my hair is growing back! And, of course, I've lost the extra weight that an ill-advised (for me, an O negative) vegetarian diet piled onto me. So, let the experts wail and whine. If you Eat Right For Your Type, you'll become the supreme expert on the only health that matters--your own!
Rating: Summary: Best book I've read in years! Review: This book is not just about losing weight, it is also about getting healthy. Dr. D'Adamo should be praised for his ground breaking work. If you don't believe, give the diet a try. I've felt better than I have in years!
Rating: Summary: Listen to the people who have tried ER4YT Review: This is an anti-fad 'diet' book that is based on science. The first time I read it I did not know my blood type, but had a good idea after reading the chapter on Type A. It might as well have had a picture of me. I was not looking to lose weight--although I was 20 lbs over-- but to deal with nagging health problems. After reading the book, I had my blood group identified (confirmed as a type A) and went back at it the book with a concerted effort.. Following the individualized advice for my blood type--dropping meat and dairy which were staples in my diet--, weight fell off me and I felt better almost immediately. It was not that hard because through trial and error and paying attention to my own feedback, I was already about 70% of the way. That is what is good about the blood type strategy, it is not a one size fits all or so broad as to be a little help to many and a lot of help to only a few. Most of the negative reviews are anchored in very conventional nutritition theory, meat is bad, whole wheat is good, and so on. What I liked about the Dr. D'Adamo's approach is book is that he is not there to preach but to help and assumes the reader is not a dupe but an active participant in creating well-being. He applies scientific principles with a good dose of humour and common sense. Frankly, after reading a number of reviews and the 'rent a rants' journalists garner from so-called experts, most of whom have never read the book, I have not seen anyone offer a credible critique that belies my personal experience. .
Rating: Summary: HEALTHY, NATURAL, and EASY! Review: I've been following this "lifetime way of eating" (not diet) for over a year. It is very healthy, based on whole unprocessed foods that interact favorably with your blood chemistry. Eating this way feels natural for my body, and I have increased energy and immunity, in addition to losing weight. Dr. D'Adamo is a very caring individual, and has changed the lives of countless people who heed his advice. I'll never buy another "diet" book or program again.
