Rating: Summary: Receipt for better living : "Eat Right for Your Blood Type" Review: While working in a health food store in Wichita, Kansas about a year and a half ago, I was exposed to Dr.D'Adamo's book. It took me a while to decide to take small bited of his recommended diet for my blood type. Quit frankly it seemed to me that I would have to give up every food I liked, and that staying on this program was a jail sentence which I was most likely to abort in a few short days. The theory made a lot of sense, but after many years of "yo-yo" dieting, I must admit I thought this was just the latest diet fad. I felt that I needed to do something about the way I was feeling both physically, and emotionally. I decided to make some suggested changes a bit at a time, finding at one point that I was ready to make a full commitment to the doctors advice, as I had started to feel better, and wanted to see if what I was experiencing could possibly get even better. I went to my family doctor who agreed to support me in my efforts, after she agreed to read the book! She took base line blood work, checked my vital signs, including a physical. She found that my blood pressure was too high, my triglyceride level was unacceptable, cholesterol was elevated, and my energy level was extremely low. I had complaints of leg cramps, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and carbohydrate cravings. I had also put on over 50 pounds in the past 3 years. Being 50 years old I was also struggling with postmenopausal symptoms. After 20 weeks of following Dr. D'Adamo's suggestions many of my symptoms subsided, and much to my delight I have dropped 27 pounds. I am even more motivated to continue my eating life style changes due to the drastic changes I have obtained. I highly recommend for anyone to explore this wonderful perscription for staying healthy, and see what taking control of your life feels like. The rewards are well worth the personal commitment toward living longer and, having the quality of life that makes you want to face every new day.

I recommend it to anyone who has digestive problems.
Rating: Summary: Worth the try Review: If you suffer from chronic ailments, especially gastro-intestinal problems, this book has the possibility to change your life. If you are in good health and eat well according to convential wisdom, you probably won't notice any significant changes, especially in the short term.
Rating: Summary: In following this plan I am FINALLY feeling better! Review: I was told I was born with a sensitive stomach. I now know they were probably feeding me all the foods that were poison to my system! As an "A" I find that in staying with a vegetarian diet as much as possible, I feel much better. At least now I feel as though I'm digesting! Thank you so much Dr. D'Adamo for this book.
Rating: Summary: The information presented was highly intriguing . . . Review: Although it was intriguing it was radically incomplete. When they say "abridged" it should be taken as a "red flag" warning. In the tapes, she only covers the Type O and roughly the Type AB deliniations. But, she (the narrator) presented a great introduction to the subject. I am considering purchasing the book now. I looked it over carefully at a local bookstore and it has a diet for Type B's carefully outlined, with explanations. I'm sorry I didn't just pick up the book in the first place!
Rating: Summary: Rather interesting premise Review: I found out about this book from my sister, who asked me what I thought of the diet. She is battling MS, has been following the diet for blood group B since March, and feels it has helped her some. I'm a orthopedic physician, so as you might expect, I know little or nothing about nutrition, and certainly what little I do know has nothing to do with blood type! Concerned that she might be hurting herself with a fad diet, I contacted one of my colleagues who is a hematologist/oncologist. He had heard of the diet, but did not know much about it. However, he did say two things that were interesting. First, to many physicians, interest in the blood types went out about the same time as high-buttoned shoes, because most of the research was done in the 1950s and 60s. Second, research interest in blood type is picking up again because of recent studies linking blood type and certain tumor markers and infections. He thought the blood types may have some effect on diet because a person's blood type antigens are in their digestive tract as well as their blood.Anyway, I just bought the book, and I'll report back when I am done reading it.
Rating: Summary: A Promising Hypothesis Review: I had heard about the ER4YT book about two years ago and considered it to be a bunch of bunk at the time. Friends told me about it and I didn't even bother to read it before I condemned it. How could I, a Type A, who eats healthily, be told to avoid such delicious foods as whole wheat, tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, etc.! The corrleation between food selection, health, and blood type seemed to be complete fiction, especially since I had no health complaints with my current eating patterns. Well, curiosity got the best of me and a month ago I bought the book version of ER4YT. I was intrigued when two acquaintances related their almost miraculous improvements in their well-being by following Dr. D'Adamo's advice. My wife insisted I check out the book with our family doctor before I became a fanatic of ER4YT. My doctor was quite dismissive of the whole idea and said that as far as she was concerned there wasn't any research to unequivocally back up D'Adamo's hypothesis. I left her office feeling like I'd just been hoodwinked by another book-fad. For another perspective I called my brother-in-law who has a doctorate in biochemistry and is currently doing research in San Diego in immunology. He said that various lectins are regularly used in his lab to induce tumours in lab animals and that the link between health, cancer, lectins, and blood type is only beginning to be understood. Ah ha! Anyways, I have read the book and have been on the Type A diet for 2 weeks and these are my impressions: o the anthropological info is amusing reading but it seems extraneous to the rest of the book o the chapters on blood type, lectins & diet, cancer, etc. are well-written and convincing o the diet is cumbersome to get used to -- some of the ingredients are hard to find or just strange to incorporate into daily life (would you like another scoop of steaming kasha?) o I have been on it for 2 weeks and have noticed no health benefits excepts a great reduction in gas, which is nice. I also have noticed that when I stray from the diet my digestion feels very unhappy. I will give it more time and hopefully I will become a full convert to the ER4YT gospel! o the most important thing to me is that my doctor said that the diets Dr. D'Adamo prescribes are NOT harmful, and in her opinion, the reason why most people notice improvements in their well-being is because they are finally incorporating fresh whole foods in their diet instead of fast-or-packaged foods. She's probably right, but I'm also banking on D'Adamo's hypothesis.
Rating: Summary: Best diet book on market Review: I am a Naturopath and Herbalist. I have read over 100 books on nutrition and diet and feel this is the best. Why? Because it gets results. I know many other professionals who use this book with their patients and gets results. I personally have had a very positive experience following this diet and have had many clients who have benefited as well. Let me give you an idea on how you know this diet works. Peter D Adamo was unheard of 4 years ago when he came out with his book. Through people trying it and getting results it has stayed on the best seller list since. The book is still only available in hardcover. Most books move to soft cover after sales slow down which is about a year. Not this book, it has been growing in popularity. The hell with all the Naysayers. The reason they are negative is it plugs holes in their own work or belief system. Try the diet for 5 weeks. See if it makes a difference for you. What do you have to lose. I think you will be quite surprised on how much better you feel and how any problems you might be having just clear up.
Rating: Summary: This is only the beginning Review: I have been struggling with my weight for the last 5 years. I am 49 and do not want to turn 50 and fat. I want to be 50 and fit. I went to a naturepath to help me with one problem but decided my weight was another problem and asked for her help. She recommended the 4 blood type solution book to me and I immediately called my doctor to see what blood type I was. I am A positive. I borrowed a copy from the nearest health food store but plan to buy my own copy tomorrow. What I rad in short was very interesting. So, I will report back my progress. What I did notice at a glance was that 5 years ago when I started this weight gain of 15 extra lbs., it was that certain foods and drinks had changed, to the ones I shouldn't consume as an A+. I started eating way more red meat, switched over from white wine to red wine. Other things too, but those stand out. I will report back in a few weeks as to my progress. My naturepath is very highly respected in our area. See what happens! The struggle with my weight has actualy been ongoing for most of my life. If this answers it I will be one happy woman/
