Summary: Interesting
Review: I heard a customer talking about this book..but didn't think much of it at the time. Later, I heard my Aunt's sister and mother were on the Eat Right for Your Type diet. I became interested...but I didn't know what blood-type I was. I had looked at the book at my local grocery store, and came to the conclusion that I was either type 0 or AB...based on the description of the stresses and excersises for each type. I was right, I am AB.

I found the book interesting as it describes the history of blood types...how O is the oldest, then B as people migrated into colder climates. Then to A, which were vegetarian eaters. Moving finaly to AB (the newest type, a mix, has the highest cancer rates)

I did not like reading that chicken, beef and oj are not good for me. How to live without those? The book tells you what is highly benificial to you, gives you a middle and then the negitive.

Am I following it ...No, but I feel so fat and crappy that I'm going back on it!

Summary: Eat Right 4 Your Type
Review: I initially entered this diet with much gusto as I wanted to lose around 20 pounds. As a type A, the recommended diet was a high vegetarian and carbohydrate diet. I followed the program for 6 weeks and _gained_ 10 pounds. I've since discovered I'm an insulin resistant person and the diet was making my situation worse. I'm now off the ER4YT diet and am following a low carb diet though I still stay away from red meat. I'm also finally starting to lose weight again.

Summary: It works, and is still working, a follow-up
Review: I bought this book about a year ago. I used a "few" of the guidlines, which provided a moderate result. I then put the book aside for several months, which I would later realize was a big mistake. I've always had poor health, including "cronic dislocating knees", so with the good results I'd already had, I thought there might be something to this book. I went back and read the book with the intention of appling the full collection of imformation, not just parts of it as I had before. After appling this complete program, I had major improvements in my health and well-being! One of the great qualities of this dietary lifestyle is that you can stay on it long term, and most importantly, stay healthy because it is very nutritionaly balanced. This is a real problem with "fad" diets like the "Atkins Diet", "The Carbs Addict's Diet", and "Sears Diet". And there will always be those that try to discredit Dr. D'Adamo and the few others that speak and write honest and usable infomation, especially self-serving "experts, the food companies, and average people who are jealous of the truth and of other people's success in becoming healthier when they can't succeed mainly because of there narrow-mindedness. As to Dr. D'Adamo having "proof" or "expert medical verification", my health is "proof" for me. For years I couldn't ride a bike or walk more than half a mile without serious pain. Now, at 42, and being on the program for 8 weeks, I'm presently walking 5 days a week, 4 miles a day and counting! Thanks Dr. D'Adamo!

Summary: Sensible, interesting, needs clinical testing
Review: D'Adamo's advice is sound throughout. There's no doubt that following any of the diets, for most people, would still offer superior nutrition and balance than 95% of Americans get every day. However, there's precious little clinical evidence in this book to justify his general ideas. I have followed the appropriate diet for my type and found it to be helpful. But I'd like to see a controlled study with at least 100 people in each group over a few years - hopefully, he's doing this now. One group follows a sensible balance plan; another group follows the specific diet for their type. If his theories and speculation are correct, the test group will have spectacular improvements in their health and fitness over a majority of the control group. But, still, it's sound advice despite the lack of empirical evidence; the anecodotal evidence is strong, and naturopathy is about the individual's own response to different inputs.

Summary: Great, Try it for a month!
Review: The reason I decided to give the book 4 stars is because formost people it is such a drastic change that it is hard to stay on atfirst. I was a vegetarian when I picked up the book and horified tofind what he recomended for a O. I threw the book down and figured how wrong he must be. Well about the time I hit my third year being a vegetarian I started to crave tuna and roast beef. I stayed a vegetarian for another 6 months and I have to say now that I have never been a very energetic person and I was getting worse. (I got checked for iron and was fine) So I took another look at the book and bought Cook Right as well for added info. I decided to give it a try but for a month, that way I could see an end and if it didn't work I could go back to an easier way of eating (Hey, wheat and corn are in EVERYTHING!) Well 3 days in I felt sick to my stomach, I took ginger and the suplement he recomends to longterm vegetarian O to help them get use to digesting meat again. I stared to feel better. After about 3 weeks I had a little wheat and I had to sleep! I had no choiceI couldn't stay awake, if that's not a sign I dont know what is.

It's been a little over two months now and I have more energy now than when I was growing up. I will grant you all of us are use to eating things that we shouldn't but we may not even realize how they are making us feel!

No the diet won't work for everyone even the Dr says 1 out of 10 people may not get results but that's only 1%. I have also lost 20 pounds eating this way. I didn't go on it for the weight loss and that isn't the main point of the diet, it is to get your body working at it's best.

When you try the diet don't forget to keep an eye out for hidden avoids. They are tucked into just about all prepared foods. It is not an easy or a inexpensive way to eat, but it is not the doctors fault we have wandered so far from the way we have evolved to eat. And many people say they save $ on doctor's bills!

Another point I want to make is most ranters complain that meat is full of fat and cholesterl, Please keep in mind that he is not telling you to eat mass marketed meat, he advises range fed meat in which beef can be lower in fat and cholesterl than mass market chicken.

Once you have tried the diet a long enough time for your body to clean the bad stuff you have been eating out, you will feel the difference, and if you don't, stop following it, but don't dismiss it out of hand just because it is different and chalanging!

And another thing the book has references in the appendix to back up his findings I don't understand the people that keep saying he has nothing to back up his claims! Just beware of anyone that bashes it that hasn't tried it, you have to figure that they have their own thing going on.

A tip for mixed households (I have O and A in mine) prepair a vegetable dish that has things you all can eat and make a separate protien to suit the different blood types you are working With I marinate steak and tofu (separate bags ofcourse) or I make a roast and serve my husband pre-baked tofu.(He loves it!)

Bottom Line: Try it! It is probably your answer END

Summary: Save your money and use common sense
Review: Dr Peter D Adamo does not have any published information other than this book he wrote to prove his point. Some of the items are expensive and hard to find. Hardly the type of diet for most people who are hard working and not wanting to waste their money on yet another fad diet. The bottom line on living and eating healthy is moderation, exercise and making better choices in what we eat. Fruits, vegtables, lean meats, fish and whole grains. Exercise every day no excuses, walking is a great option for most. All these things in combination will help one live longer, feel better emotionally and physically and lose weight in the process. No one said change was easy, you must make up your mind to do it. Doubt my word on this? Check out Dr. Weil's web site and type in Dr. Peter D Adamo. You'll get a no nonsense response to what is in his book from someone who supports natural healthy choices and has been published many times and has members of the health profession who respect him. Sorry Dr. D Adamo, people lose weight on your diet because it is low cal not based on anything that is been documented by more than one person in the medical field. Shame on you. Save your money people. As a breast cancer survivor, I have done my research. For those who have been successful on this plan, give the credit to yourself not to this book. How many of you who gave this a positive review are still on it? Will you be on it 1 year from now? Buyer beware!

Summary: ERFYType can help depression
Review: As long as I stay on this diet precisely my depression stays away. When I venture off, I find myself in the "dark pit." I didn't know what feeling good (most of my life) was until I tried this diet (type A). And I've tried them all--the Zone, Dean Ornish's plan, etc. It's something about the specific foods I am to avoid that do it. Plus my concentration level has increased so much I am in grad school now (and work full time). My energy level has increased, my weight has dropped. It very specifically affects my moods and concentration. Why? I don't know, it just does.

Summary: Makes sense.....
Review: A few years ago, I was a vegetarian. I ate well, educated myself on nutrition, took in the extra 'proteins' that I was missing from meats. I did not do well. I did this for two years. I did NOT do this necessarily from a 'health' stand point as much as from a spiritual focus. (similar to fasting) My health declined no matter how hard I tried. I looked like a skeleton. My baby at the time seemed to thrive, she was the essence of perfect health (after I took her off whole milk). Well, this confused many. When I stared eating meat agian, I slowly became healthier. Now I was more than just an occasional meat eater, I was consciouse of how good 'other' foods were for you also. A year ago, I found this book. Right away it explained the mystery of those two years. I am an O Blood type, my daughter is an A. It all fell into place! Even more interesting, was the history uncovered....to think that AB blood types are only 1,000 years old! I have many beliefs, and I can't help but wonder, that if our blood types 'evolved' by what we ate, and the regions/lifestyles we thrived in, could we be evolving again? Kind of scarey, considering all the perservatives and genetically engineered foods that we ingest. I also found the suggested foods hard to locate. But, discovered most with careful searching....in my local Vitamin Cottages. Good luck! And like any change, you have to really want it, to make it work.

Summary: A New Spin on Nutrition
Review: This book is an interesting alternative to The Zone, which I did not find helpful at all, probably because I have Type A blood.

D'Adamo explains his concepts in sufficiently technical language to make his arguments appear credible.

The only problem I have with this book is that a lot of the food suggested is quite unusual. Perhaps the author should suggest where people can purchase these kinds of foods.

Summary: A book to follow

I lost 25 pounds, with excercising and will continue this diet for the rest of my life. I was a serious carnivore beofore I started, now Im vegan. If I can do it anyone can.
