Rating: Summary: Loved this book! Review: This diet makes sense! The book is easy reading, makes total sense out of the science of why we should eat the foods we should. Everyone should know about this!
Rating: Summary: The Blood Type Diet Works--It's Real--It Changed My Life Review: Eat Right 4 Your Type is great. It works. I'm a Blood Type A and it worked great. Believe me, I was skeptical when I read about it, but after getting the book and reading it, I decided to give it a try. It helps to read all of the book. Don't just go to the part about your own blood type and skip over the rest. After just a few days avoiding the foods the diet says aren't good for my blood type, I noticed a change. I started feeling better. I had more energy. I had trouble with my stomach for years, digestive problems. And I was overweight. The diet has helped to change that. I didn't feel sick to my stomach so much. The more I kept to the diet, the less my stomach hurt. Then it stopped hurting at all. And I started losing some weight. It wasn't any miracle weight loss, but after almost 6 weeks following the book, I lost about 12 pounds. Weight is still coming off. I feel better than I have for years, and I'm in my fifties. My wife bought Cook Right 4 Your Type also, for ideas about meals for people with different blood types. That's the hardest part, giving up almost all of the fast, easy stuff. I still want to eat Italian bread. I try not to watch the food commercials on TV. I miss fast food junk like that. But I love Eat Right and Cook Right. They helped me so much, and my wife. I'm still surprised. Dr. D'Adamo and Catherine Whitney make it all so easy to understand. Read this book from cover to cover. There's really good information here for everybody. My wife is Type O, and she feels great right now from following the blood type diet. There's also a blood type web site to get any questions answered. There's a message board in there that's a real help. Buy the book, read it, and then use it in good health. You're going to be surprised. The blood type diet works. It's great. I give it a Five stars rating, plus. I hope this helps you.
Rating: Summary: This Book May Have Saved My Neighbor's Life Review: My neighbor was told he may not survive the week as he had an undiagnosed liver problem and almost no red blood platelets. He got three blood transfusions which only helped mildly. He tried the "B Blood Type Diet" and two weeks later is back to normal. Platelet count up to normal, and his liver kicked back into gear. His three year rash is gone as well as his diarrhea of three years. He says he owes it all to this diet! My husband and I now follow it and are doing extremely well. I recommend this book to everyone I care about. I am ordering Cook Right 4 Your Type today as well.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs down on this one... Review: I just finished reading this book and all I can say is that it's like reading one of those "for entertainment purposes only" astrology books. The things the author has to say about my AB blood type just do not fit with reality as I know it. He has my physiology wrong and my personality wrong- and wrong in some very fundamental ways. Foods he says I shouldn't eat are foods that I do well on and foods that he recommends as highly beneficial give me heart burn. He says people with my blood type don't lose weight using lo-carb, high fat and protein diets i.e. (Dr.Atkins). In actuality- the Atkins diet is the only way I have ever been able to lose weight. For anyone sincerely interested in improving their health, I would recommend reading "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty, "NeanderThin" by Ray Audette and "Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution" by Dr. Atkins. These are good solid books that have seriously helped me. Not pseudo science like "Eat Right for Your Type".
Rating: Summary: You won't believe it! Review: I'm the eternal sceptic. I've tried different diets based on high carbs., high proteins, constant "grazing", vegetarian, etc. Until I found and researched Dr. D'Adamo's plan did I find something that worked for me. As a biology graduate and a practicing science teacher, I need data and conclusive evidence before I commit to a theory. I tried Dr. D'Adamo's plan based on my 'O' blood type, and within days I felt a deep physiological and mental transformation, which was amazing. For years, I've been conditioned to eating grains, pastas, and dairy products and have always felt "out of it" or constantly not in tune with my body. After being on Dr. D'Adamo's diet for a month now, I've lost 15 lbs. and have not felt this exhilarated since I was an adolescent. I encourage everyone to research the various programs out there and even read the disclaimers about this diet, but keep a open mind and pragmatic view about human physiology, then research and try this diet. It will change your life.
Rating: Summary: Eat Right For Your Type Review: I found this book and it's companion book, Cook Right For Your Type. I started reading it, and I just can't put it down. It makes so much sense. It explains the mysteries, such as why does one weight loss program work for one person and not for another. My husband and I are currently in the Quick Weight Loss program. It even explains to me why in this program, some days are better than others, because I have eaten foods that I am supposed to avoid. I am almost at my goal of wanting to have lost 15 pounds and when I have reached that goal, then our family is going to start this program. I am currently trying to combine the two philosophies. I do have one question though. How do you find out about foods that aren't listed in the book?
Rating: Summary: It's not just another nutrition book. Review: I have to disagree with the customer review that stated that this book was just another way of saying, "Eat better and exercise, and you'll lose weight." I have type O blood, and one of the many helpful recommendations Dr. D'Adamo gives is for type O's to avoid wheat, which is quite contrary to most health recommendations. I've tried all my life to eat whole wheat products because health experts recommend it. Little did I know how hindering it was to my body and my weight loss efforts to eat wheat. I also found that not all people benefit from strenuous exercise. For some blood types, yoga and tai chi can be more beneficial than strenuous aerobics. The whole point of this book is that people cannot follow the same diets and exercise programs to get the same results, and I completely agree. If this wasn't true, people who are trying to follow traditional health recommendations for exercise and eating wouldn't be finding themselves overweight and unhealthy, despite their efforts. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is trying to lose weight, reduce stress, and increase their overall health. I have lost weight, but more than that, I am more healthy than I've ever been in my life. I don't believe Dr. D'Adamo would have done such strenuous research, nor would people be doing so well on the diet, if it was just another way of telling people to eat right and exercise.
Rating: Summary: A new way to look at food. Review: I purchased this book since my Mom was so excited about this new diet. What I found the most interesting is the foods that I know I am allergic to, before I read this book, are the foods on the avoid list. The only hard part to the O Type diet is avoiding wheat. Wheat is in everything, almost. I try to avoid it when possible. I've also found that by avoiding the foods on the avoid list my stomach doesn't get upset all the time! And I've lost a few pounds too!
Rating: Summary: The Wrong Type Review: I admit that I did not read the entire book because after I read the introduction I was aghast at the supposition that blood types determine such clear cut differences in metabolism and physiology. Although blood types certainly do affect our physiology, so do hundreds of other genetic and expressed differences. It is akin to suggesting different diets for men and women, short and tall people, or those of different ethnic backgrounds. I just don't buy the scientific premise of this book.
Rating: Summary: Life-changing information for better health... Review: I am currently seeing a holistic doctor who recommended this book to me. I have been following the plan for two weeks now, and am seeing marvelous results. I have lost six pounds. I have had a chronic health problem clear up. I have lost the food cravings which were driving me crazy. I have more energy. And my hormone levels seem to be balancing out!Mind you, this program is not necessarily easy to follow. The fast food lifestyle that most Americans follow is deeply ingrained in many of us, and can be hard to give up. Processed foods are everywhere, convenient, and simple to grab and eat when you're hungry. This plan requires some planning, some thought, and a dedication to finding organic produce and meats (I'm a Type O). But if you're willing and able to do so, the benefits are terrific! I have one small quibble with the book. D'Adamo suggests the use of Ezekial or Essene breads for Type Os, but my doctor tells me they contain gluten, so I avoid them. I would also recommend that people with sugar cravings avoid chocolate altogether, as it makes it harder to get past those if you still eat it. All in all though, this is a fantastic book, and the companion book, "Cook Right For Your Type" is a wonderful addition to this plan. If you're willing to follow through, this concept can change your life for the better!
