Rating: Summary: A marriage saver... Review: Dr. Chapman has really given us many ways in this book showing us that we can save our marriages. & even how not to let things get that far. He explains that in this day & age there is no excuse for divorce! I think if you are wanting to show your mate how much you care, go get this book!
Rating: Summary: productive and positive approach to building relationships Review: I was impressed with the positive perspective in this book. Yes, relationships are hard. But with some work, they can be great. This book was helpful...without the psych-babble or the lame gender excuses. Provided a helpful framework for understanding yourself and your mate better, and some good discussion questions to get conversations started. Finally figured out the secret to what makes my current relationship challenging. Now my boyfriend (who also enjoyed reading this!) and I feel positive about how we can build a better future together.
Rating: Summary: The Five Love Languages - by Gary Chapman Review: The author reveals, through 25 years of counseling, that he has determined people communicate love in five basic ways. They are Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Physical Touch and Giving Gifts. For example, if my primary love language is Quality Time, then I will show my love to others by spending quality time with them. If I don't receive that in return, my love tank will be empty. The author stresses the importance of knowing your loved one's love language so that you can communicate love to that person in a way in which he/she feels love, so that their love tank can be continually replenished. If my spous's love language is acts of service and he is always doing things for me to communicate his love, but I receive love through the language of quality time, I will not receive his acts of service as communicating love and therefore my love tank will be dry. I in return, must communicate my love to him through acts of service in order to fill his love tank. An empty love tank causes relationships to deteriorate. This book was excellent for teaching us to recognize the way in which our loved ones receive and feel loved.
Rating: Summary: For people in new relationships Review: These tapes work to enhance the communication and the love in a relationship. They help the listeners learn about the ways to show love to their partners. They also are starting points for intimate conversations about love and each person's desire for love in the relationship. They really do work.
Rating: Summary: It rocks! ( : Review: This book is a great resource for not only couples, but also people who are interested in learning to communicate better with others. Amazingly, the walls that seem to make you feel distant from those that claim they love you and those you love can disappear with just a little communication regarding "how" and "what" makes you feel loved. I really feel that God will bless the relationships of anyone who reads this book and focuses on putting God at the center of their life. Enjoy- I back it 100%.
Rating: Summary: A Must for Your Shelf Review: If you truly want to have a lasting relationship with your spouse, this book is a must to have. Keep your own copy and give or spread the word to other. Its a book that you will want to read over and over. When I started doing my husband's love language, he became more positive and now we are doing great. This is my third marriage, and I wanted God in the mix. Read for yourself or get the tapes. It can do nothing but GOOD for your marriage too.
Rating: Summary: Try It! It will make a difference in your marriage! Review: I wasn't sure how this book could help my marriage since all of the other things we looked into had failed. But, we gave it a try and it has really put our marriage on another level. The examples in the book were relative and the realistic approach to love (It's a choice) continues to be helpful. I've loaned out and suggested this book to all of my married friends.
Rating: Summary: I reccomend this book all the time! Review: Really, this is one of the best books out there. We all have different ways of communicating, and this book makes it clear that one person's way of expressing love may not feel like love to another. If we can speak our mate's "language", and them ours, we're all set. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading before marriage. Great Book! Review: This was a really super book. It helped me to understand why my husband and I felt like we were doing everything we could for each other, but it wasn't enough. It is very easy to read and understand and the most helpful book I've read.
Rating: Summary: BEST GIFT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED, CHANGED MY ENTIRE LIFE Review: It is so simple and easy to understand. After I read it, I couldn't understand why I hadn't realized these concepts before. I wish I could give a copy of this book to every man, woman, and child. What a wonderful world we would have if we all understood the "Five Love Languages" and spoke them to all we meet everyday!! The family is a great place to start. My family and I regularly ask eachother "How full is the 'love tank?'". When things are tough at school, work or life in general, we now ask eachother freely "What can I do to make your love tank full?" Sometimes only the passing of time will cure a family problem (example: problems at work), but our family's committment to express to eachother the variety of dialects between quality time, words of affirmation, and physical touch (which seem to be the most needed of the 5 languages in our particular household when outside problems occur) can make the hardest of times go by so much easier and faster. How I wish everyone would read this book!!!
