Summary: A funny little treat...
Review: (...) This book took me a while to get through because I constantly was rereading various chapters to friends and family members, so once I finally finished it, I had literally read some of the essays 3 or 4 times. Maybe that's what added to the time spent on it.

Sedaris is a very talented writer, and while the critics comments on the back of the book may be a bit over the top ("wildly entertaining" seems a little too complimentary for a book of essays, even if they are hilarious at times--when I think of "wildly entertaining," I think of other things...not reading something that's very funny). All that said and done, most people free enough to think and relate to what it being human really means should resonate with much of Sedaris' thoughts.

His take on Americans in France, and french theaters and American movie theaters made me want to pack my bags and head to Paris. Also, his crossword puzzle-obsession and subway-story regarding two Americans who mistake him for a pick-pocket is among the book's many treasures. Once you read it, you'll find yourself remembering Sedaris' voice within his stories, and that is what makes it even more funny. It might not stand out to you as you read it as much, but give it a day or two, and I'm sure you'll be talking to friends about how much you loved "Me Talk Pretty One Day." Thanks Dave for a great time!

Summary: No need to wait for a day in the future
Review: Forget "pretty,"Sedaris talks "funny" and we need more writers like him.
Thanks for the memories.

Summary: The BEST Sedaris collection
Review: ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY is certainly hilarious. Sedaris seems to have really hit his stride here. Compared with NAKED, another of his books, his command of language here is more precise, the sentences smoother, and each piece concludes gracefully, beautifully. This book is very funny, yes, but also full of beautiful writing that will stand the test of time. It could be taught in English writing classes. I truly enjoyed this collection and would advise you to check it out, buy a copy to own, because you'll want to read it more than once -- it's really that good -- and that rare. If I have one complaint, I wish the book would have concluded a little sooner, with the piece entitled, "Smart Guy," the funniest in the book. The last two pieces are bit melancholy in tone and make Sedaris seem somewhat of a depressive. In any event, this is an exceptional book. Buy a copy now! Another Amazon quick-pick I'd like to suggest is THE LOSERS CLUB by Richard Perez, an amusing, somewhat youngish book about an unlucky writer addicted the personal ads.

Summary: An extraordinarily unique writer
Review: Sedaris does it again. This one is not as entertaining as "Naked" but still does the job. Sedaris writes about the full spectrum of human feelings and makes it funny, hysterically, at the same time. So good, you can barely put it down, I promise you that.

Summary: Hilarious ------> Sedaris Hits His Stride
Review: ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY by David Sedaris is simply the most hilarious book I've purchased since WILL@EPICQWEST.COM by Tom Grimes. I purchased and read all of Sedaris' work, but in my opinion the author hits his stride in this particular collection: the humor, the fluidity of the writing -- all of it comes together to create a book that is not only hilarious but a collection that will stand the test of time. This book is destined to be a classic. Definitely pick up this wonderful book!

Summary: What a hoot!
Review: By far the funniest book I've ever come across, although Naked is pretty hysterical also. No, "Me Talk" is not some great piece of literature, but it's worth every cent and then some. The comic scenes and Sedaris's telling of them is masterful and genius. Without a doubt this is one book everyone should read.

Summary: Meh
Review: Yes, this book is undeniably funny. However, it's the literary equivalent of Doritos (ie: Pretty good, but leaves you hungry. And too much will make you feel vaguely ill.) Borrow it and bust a gut laughing for an afternoon. But don't spend your own money on it, because the vignettes become increasingly stale and vacuous with successive re-readings. Anyway, in a few years you'll be able to find this book for cheap in bookstores' remainder bins, along with Tama Janowitz and David Foster Wallace novels.

Summary: Me like
Review: I don't think a book has ever caused me to laugh out loud as much as this one did. Sedaris seems like the kind of author who can turn ANY mudane human experience into something worth reading about. He elaborates on everything from speech therapy to pet, with the last half of the book focusing more on his journeys in France, and the troubles of learning the language. Some foul language and dirty jokes abound, but if that sort of thing doesn't bother you, Me Talk Pretty One Day will be a lot of fun. This book is not something that will change your life or forever leave an impression on you. But it is enjoyable to read, and that's all that really matters.
