Summary: Disgusting
Review: I admit that I have never read this book, but I read the excerpt and reviews etc. It is disgusting. No earthly human being has any right to write about Heaven, especially associated with what this book is associated with, having never been there. Also, especially because her description is twisted and untrue. Anybody that has ever been to sunday school or church, read the bible or believed in God knows that when you go to Heaven you will be happier than ever before, an that you won't long for earth, and that you will be sinless and pure. So if you're going to write a book about Heaven, which I think is just wrong, make sure your version isn't twisted and messed up. Nobody who writes a book will ever have a true interpretation of Heaven- it is one of those things that is wonderful and a true gift from God, but don't spoil it by rushing and using it, interpreting and writing books about it. That excerpt was upsetting. I suggest any knowledged or normal Christian look at this book with a disapproving eye. GOD BLESS YALL!

Summary: I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS......
Review: Why is it on the NYT bestsellers' list i have no idea, other than a interesting concept of posthumous narrative, there's nothing more to the novel than gratuitous emtional fluff. I can't believe i bought this book. If you are into that kinda stuff, and have nothing better to do, maybe u can consider buying if from me.

Summary: The Lovely Bones
Review: I truely enjoyed this book. Even after reading the other's reviews, I felt that this book was different. Which it was! In my humble opinion, hey, if you are reading fiction..expect it. It is a true work of fiction & really makes you think. You will only know that if you read the novel that is. We were talking @ my office about this book so i decided to buy it, WELL worth the price. And, I will share it w/the woman that told me about it, she will love it, as I did.

Summary: You either get it or you don't
Review: This is a beautiful piece of work. It addresses many horrific issues without brutalizing the sensibilities of the reader, but makes friends with the reader through familiarity and honesty and humor. Rather than describe the book, let me tell you that if you do begin it and you do not like it right from the beginning, stop reading it and go elsewhere. It is an original piece of art and originals, by definition, do not extend the comfort of the familiar. Judging from this list of reviews, many people were not comforted.
If you do join in the experience of the book, watch for Ruth. To me, she becomes a common day saint, perhaps the only such being of these times, because she acknowledges and honors the victims of the everyday wars against everyday women. She is my hero.

Summary: A wonderful novel!
Review: This is a heart wrenching tale or family love, passion, and what it means to let go. A wonderful story of a girl following her life after she leaves it.

Summary: Great Book
Review: For a book with such a morbid begining, it was great. I couldn't stop reading. It makes you think about how heaven really is and what happens after you die. It was such an exciting book for being so short.

Summary: Heartbreaking and uplifting
Review: While I admit Sebold isn't going to win any awards for her technical writing skills, anything lacking fell aside when I was faced with the intense beauty (and sadness) of the story of Susie Salmon.

I started this book on a Sunday evening and finished it in the wee hours of Monday; I couldn't put it down! I found myself often laughing out loud or quietly sobbing to myself, sometimes in response to the same page of text.

I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages and genders. Sebold does a lovely job of creating a story with a personal message for each reader.

Summary: Enticing story from a top story-teller
Review: I didn't want to read this book at first. I had several reasons. As a rape survivor, I usually try to avoid the topic since it brings up painful memories. I was sure the story would be depressing (what else could a child's rape and murder be?), and the world is dark enough these days. But primarily I didn't want to pick it up since books that are suddenly popular often turn out to be some kind of disappointment, usually too shallow or too shocking. When I started to read this book, I didn't want to put it down.

The first person telling of the murder and rape from a young victim's view sounds so sensationalized. But Sebold is no yellow journalist. This is the tender telling of the effects of this killing by someone (revealed early) known to the little girl, a mystery to the family.

This is not a murder mystery along the lines of bestselling, popular shock writers. It isn't written from any kind of formula, but is loosely based on the author's own rape as a college student (though thankfully, she lives to tell her tale). In this fictionalized story, the murder is never truly solved, or resolved, though eventually everyone knows 'who dunnit.'

A soft and thoughtful read, sad but hopeful too as our young victim watches how lives are changed, and how life goes on, after her death. Look for 'Lucky," her equally well-written story of the real life rape, and the changes it brings to her life and that of her family.

Summary: Great Writing, But Little Happens
Review: There is no denying that Sebold is a terrific writer with great prose, but THE LOVELY BONES moves way too slow. The idea is interesting, and the way our villian is killed is fantastic. But for such a slow moving book to be such an amazing seller amazes me! Go figure.
