Summary: The Lovely Bones Book Review
Review: The Lovely Bones written by Alice Sebold is an outstanding book. I really enjoyed reading this book because it always kept my attention. Unlike most other books that start out with a long, dull introduction, this book gets right into the point.
The main character, Susie Salmon, is also an interesting aspect in this novel, as she tells this story from heaven. She tells us about her rape and murder along with how each character coped with her death. Unbelievable at first, her family finally comes to face the harsh reality of Susie's death.
This novel is perfect as it is, I wouldn't change a thing. It was very hard to put down, and kept my attention at all times. Each page kept me in suspense of what might happen next. If you like suspense, this is a good book to read.
I would definitely recommend this book to other peers. It was recommended to me by three of my English teachers, and just as they reported, this book was fantastic

Summary: After reading the reviews I expected too much!
Review: I did not enjoy this book. It was quite shocking, and very tedious to read. Please read "The Secret Life of Bees" if you want a heartwarming book.

Summary: Weird and Sad!
Review: This book is a totall disappointment!! I got it the second it came out because talk of it was soo great...well i dont know what the fuss is about!? First off, it is sad as all hell! Second, it is strange...not just kinda strange..its downright weird! I mean this little girl is raped and then watches her family from heaven, and then gets a chance to spend a night back on earth?? Hmmm...The book starts off OK and then it goes straight down hill! The writing is not great, its a good way to pass time if its the only book left in the bookstore..hehe..or on Amazon! Pass this one up and Read "Memoirs of a Geisha" by arthur golden. Now that is a good book about a girl with a hard life...and the writing is awesome.

Summary: A must read...
Review: One of the best books I have read this year. A unique tale unlike any other I have read that inspires thoughts about life, death, family, and the things that are truly important to you. As the book opens and you begin to understand that Susie is telling her story, the story of her death and the lives of those that go on without her, it is easy to become lost in the story. The first approx. 70 pages were difficult to read, as these are the pages where Susie details her murder. However, after the first approx. 70 pages, I was so intrigued by the book that I had a hard time putting it down.

I have heard many say the book is "dark", but I found the book to be more though-provoking than anything else. Most of all, this book made me wonder what "my heaven" would look like if I were to die today. What are the things that I love most and find most important that I would have with me?

I have loaned by copy of this book to so many friends already, and have recommended it to everyone I know.

Summary: Strong beginning, weak finish.
Review: This book had so much potential. I was racing through it, tissue in hand. Then suddenly I felt that one evening while watching "Ghost" Ms. Sebold's editor called and said he needed the book. She hurriedly finished leaving out all the depth of her early writing. Susie's "return to Earth" was totally unnecessary, almost insulting, to the wonderful character that had been developed. The mother's acceptance back into the family felt tacked on as did George Harvey's fate. In short, I don't understand the huge success of this book.

Summary: Lovely
Review: This is one book I would recommend to anyone. I think it brings comfort to those who have lost someone. The book was written beautifully. It was easy to imagine being in heaven and knowing your loved ones were not in a horrid place. The stuggles the Salmon family dealth with after Susie's death were realistic. I could not put the book down after the first couple of sentences. I haven't read a book this good in a long time.

Summary: A masterpiece of trauma
Review: I guess I fall into the camp of people who really love this novel. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found it highly original and thoroughly gripping. I especially thought the technique of "looking down from heaven" was interesting and unique. The quality of writing is super high and I felt the story moved with good pace. Overall, a very interesting and involving read that I won't soon forget. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".

Summary: The Lovely Bones: A Very Unique Book
Review: The Lovely Bones is an intriguing novel about a girl, named Susie Salmon, who was murdered and now continues her life in what she calls her own heaven. Susie watches her family, friends, and even her murderer as their life on Earth continues without her. This book is excellently written, but occasionally the plot seems to go astray. The whole storyline, I feel, is very creative and explores different aspects of the after life from the author's point of view. I heard about the book first on the Today show, the book club on the show was raving about how wonderful the story was. Anyone who wants to read a book a little out of the ordinary should definitely pick this novel up!

Summary: If you like novels...
Review: I actually read this book a few months ago, but as I was bwowsing through the reviews I felt like I just had to say something. This was a great book. If you are looking for one of those really well written books that nobody likes, (the English Patient, for instance), then you won't like it. But if you are looking for a novel that will take you out of your own life and into another world for just a little while, and leave you touched and changed, you should read it. This is a book I will never forget. I also read Lucky, which was very good. Lucky was a much darker book and much more based in reality, but I preferred the Lovely Bones. I thought it was a lovely book.

Summary: Good, accessible book
Review: I found this book to be a surprising change from the ordinary, and creative in its use of an alternative viewpoint. Perhaps one of the most important things to consider when reading this book is the sensitivity of the subject being dealt with. Today, we are accustomed to violence in media, and attempts to deal with it in an indirect manner are often accused of being sugar-coated and worse.
However, this book does a very good job of dealing with the human rather than technical issues of the murder of the narrator, and therein lies its strength, and therefore a reader must be open to seeing these issues to get the best of this book.
That said, while it is a literary lightweight, the bonus is that it is highly accessible. There is little in the book that requires a literary education to comprehend, yet it is deep enough to provide a meaningful context for the subject. Even the issue of rape is dealt with delicately, bt still considering the subject matter, I wouldn't recommend it for younger readers, however given proper preparation it would be ideal for the "older" set of young adult readers, as well as mature readers.
