Summary: One Word: Awesome!
Review: Wow... I just got done with The Lovely Bones a few hours ago, and I must say I was quite pleased. I read the whole book in one sitting, and I was never disapointed with how the story was going. It really pulls at your emotions, and I often found myself thinking what I would do, and how I would feel in her position. The pain... the agony that her family went through - and the longing for home Suzie felt. It was really heart rending.

Many would say that this novel is extremely disturbing, but I found it bearable... it wasn't that grusome at all. Although, I am exposed to things like this on a timely basis (I work in a hospital). I think this is a must read. It has made me wonder about how "my" Heaven would be, and if I would ever stop watching the goings on "down on earth".

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: Many people recommended this book to me. The first quarter of the book captured my interest with the crime, but failed to keep me going. I skimmed the book very quickly for the second half and put it down. I am glad I did not purchase the book.

Summary: LIfe goes on
Review: Have you ever wondered if when someone leaves this world, do they look in on us, watch over us and see what we are doing? It seems Author Alice Sebold had those samethoughts, and translted them with such skill from pen to paper. When we first meet Susie Salmon, she has already been raped and murdered by a neighbor who lured her into a makeshift den. Susie is in heaven, andthrough the story, which covers many years, she and her family come to terms with her death. As one life ends, all life continues.
Reviews rved for this book, I decided to get a copy, yet held no expectations. I truly enjoyed the read, I finished in about 2 days, had work obligations not been present I would have finished the day I purchased it. 3 friends have sinceborrowedit, all have enjoyed.

Summary: Beautiful.
Review: It's a wonderful story unlike any other I've read before.
It's just beautiful, it's my favorite book. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Hugely Disappointing
Review: This is one of the worst books I've read in long time. The plot and the writing are dull. The main character is a teenager but she sounds like an adult so I never believed in the plot line. There are a lot of good books out there to read. Don't waste your precious time on this one!

Summary: Too much hype
Review: I was so excited to read this book because of all the media-hype surrounding it- it was the first book I've seen in a long time that actually got a commercial promo. But once I started reading it, I had to force myself to get to the end. In theory, this is a great premise for a story- something fresh and new- but I thought that Sebold could have executed this story so much better, with a little more character development and a better demise for the murderer, which I found very disappointing. I think that there are many books worthy of publicity that never receive it- this was not one of them.

Summary: highly over rated
Review: This was one of this worst books I have ever read. The facts and details that captivate you to further read a novel, are reveiled in the first several pages. The book was cathartic, if you've lost someone close in an unforeseeable circumstance, great, maybe you can relate, but for the average reader, not looking for self-help, give this one a miss.

Summary: a look at what heaven could be
Review: looking at all the wonderful reviews people shared on the lovely bones i thought i would give the book a try. I was completely blown away. It made me wonder if heaven is really like how the author perceives it to be. I love books and this is one of very few books that brought tears to my eyes. It is a heartfelt and wonderful book with beautiful strong writting. I suggest it for young adults and adults. But it is very hard to put down so be ready if you're going to start reading it!

Summary: Lovely Bones moved me
Review: The characters in Lovely Bones are people I have met, people I have made my own and through whom I could feel the pain they felt at Susie's death. I knew how her mother felt at needing to escape tragedy and her father's need to dwell in it. Buckley, the innocent four year old, needed to talk to her, while Lindsey needed to grow up for her. Susie watched them all miss her, and she yearned for them, and yet growing with them with their every step.
As I read the book, I realized that everyone could identify with loss, if nothing else in life. Everyone knows someone they wish they could say one last word to, or touch one last time, and yet they are gone forever. Since death touches us all, as well as the very thought of the afterlife, Sebold provides a suspended belief in the afterlife and someone watching over us. As Susie watches her family and friends struggle and move on in each their own way, she too, although 14, becomes the woman she was never allowed to be.
Susie's last encounter with Ray, was just one of the many moments my book became overwhelmed in tears. It was the moment she had chosen to be her last, to be his. (tears welling at I write)
I HIGHLY recommend this book. The novel is based on a simple concept that we have all imagined: someone watching us from heaven, and yet, it sparked thoughts that have kept me reeling since.
It is quite the emotional roller-coaster though; I felt the innocence of childhood being swallowed by rape and the injustice that followed. I heard the emotional anecdotes that her family and friends remembered and sometimes shared. By the end of the novel, I felt Susie was an acquaintance of mine, that perhaps I too had stood in the cornfield singing..........remembering Susie.
