Summary: I Couldn't Put It Down
Review: I don't know who Alice Sebold is, or even what she has written before, but I know that I will be recommending this book to everyone that cares to hear it from me.

This is such a lovely story about an awful thing. Does that make sense? The unique point of view (Susie speaks from heaven, of course) and the author's down to earth style make this a wonderful read. I literally lost sleep because of this book. I was up way too late several nights in a row reading, and even had some dreams about heaven as a result of it.

What else can I say, except you will love the characters in this story, you will look at things around you in a different way as you work through this story, and you will tell people about it any chance you can get.

I will look forward to reading anything that I can find by this author.

Summary: Over-rated!!
Review: The perspective and thoughts of heaven are interesting, but the plot is very, very thin. Also, the part where she comes down from heaven and makes love, well, it's kind of silly. Moreover, if the detective had any clue, he should of solved the murder immediately. I mean there is a single man who gives everyone the heebie-jeebies, lives near-by, and no one initally interviews him or visits the local dump site. It stains the crediblity of the plot. There are a lot of books that are a better read!

Summary: Horrifying to Uplifting
Review: I listened to the CD version of this book on a long drive. It's the story of a family trying to cope with the death of 14-year-old daughter/sister Susie. Early on, the book is horrifying. But this isn't a depressing book. In fact, it is quite uplifting so see family members and friends deal with the tragedy and eventually pull together. If you're looking for a crime mystery that solves everything and provides complete closure, you probably won't like this book. That's because the crime solving part of the story is in the background for the most part. The major story line revolves around how the family and friends of the dead girl deal cope in the days, months and years after her murder. It's easy to quibble with some of the mangled metaphors and occasional shoddy writing. Still, I found the book a good listen, unlifting in the end.

Summary: the lovely bones
Review: I enjoyed The Lovely Bones simply because it was such an unusual read. The story grabbed me and would not let me go until I Finished it. I do think the story left us with out closure but perhaps that personifies real life.

Summary: Best read I've found in a long time!
Review: It's refreshing when you can pick up a good piece of fiction that is WELL WRITTEN! I love the perspective -- very original and unique. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something different to read. Even though it is fiction, it is highly believable and well told. Great characters. Though it may seem like a sad and morbid subject, the writer doesn't let us dwell on the dark side. If I thought this were a depressing story, I would have put it down well before finishing it. So fear not!
I am not a religious person, but it certainly made me think about the whole concept of Heaven. It also made the possibility of communicating with those gone to Heaven seem quite possible --on a very personal level, of course.

Summary: Good, but it's no "To Kill a Mockingbird."
Review: It's a good read and it's written in an ethereal style that's very compelling, but there's a plot point near the end of the book that drags the narrative into mawkish "Touched by an Angel" territory. I'd like to read more from her, though.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: I absolutely loved this book. It was so insightful and artfully written. I loved how Sebold not only focused on Susie's death, but how her death affected friends, family and mere aquaintances for years afterward. This book was simply amazing!

Summary: SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY
Review: What am I missing? Why such great reviews? I stopped reading it about 50 pages from the end - forcing myself to try to finish it. I gave up. So disappointing! It just didn't go anywhere. The characters weren't interesting enough. There are too many other good books out there to waste my time on this one.

Summary: Would of rather taken a walk through the cemetery
Review: I have to admit that I had very high expectations of this book after seeing it top the book charts for so long. I think people are comforted about the fact that their was depiction of heaven. Anyone who has ever lost a loved one despite the circumstances surrounding the death has to have a certain curiosity of the after life. I only read about 200 pages of this book and decided I would rather be reading a good Stephen King novel.

Summary: An Excellent Book
Review: I found this book very different then most of the storylines I have ever read and I enjoyed the difference. I thought it was well done, the characters very real and the author had a way of putting the reader into the story, especially if you had suffered such a tragedy or knew someone who did in your life. Whoever said there was no closure certainly did not fully comprehend what the writer was conveying. I think that anyone who has a real compassionate nature and wants to read something that moves you will love this book. I highly recommend it.
